The mix of cosmopolitan flair and low-key atmosphere once led LA Weekly to speculate that North Hollywood just might be the best place to live in the Los Angeles area. This community has become popular among artists, writers, filmmakers, and actors seeking balance between easy access to Hollywood and a quieter, more suburban home environment.
The local food and bar scene is robust, and the bohemian vibe of the NoHo Art District attracts all manner of offbeat creative types. Uncommon among Los Angeles-area communities, much of North Hollywood is quite walkable, with food, drinks, galleries, and performance venues just a leisurely stroll away from one another. Thankfully for renters, all of the perks of this location come at a relatively affordable cost. Most renters pay an average of $2,282 to rent in North Hollywood, about $500 less than the Los Angeles average.

Property Ratings at The Social Apartments
I moved into the Social almost a year ago despite several negative reviews. The building is not a brand new building and we were aware that water shut-off may occur. Our unit has had one water pipe repaired. This is not uncommon from what I have heard and experienced, but the maintenance staff addresses it as quickly and efficiently as possible. Since moving in, we have had only one building-wide, unscheduled emergency water shut off which lasted a few hours. The elevators do break down from time to time, but are working again in a few days. The community is generally very quiet and experiences no more issues with homelessness and crime than other buildings in the area. I will continue to live here as long as my rent remains fair and consistent with similar units in the area.
Property Manager at The Social Apartments, Responded To This Review
We're glad to hear that you are enjoying your time at The Social Apartments. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We appreciate your understanding regarding the occasional maintenance issues, and we're pleased that our staff has been able to address them promptly. It's great to know that you find the community quiet and comfortable. We value your continued residency and strive to maintain fair and competitive rent prices for our tenants.
Unfortunately, my experience at The Social has been negative, despite loving my actual apartment. I was very excited to move in, but quickly realized there are many consistent problems that make The Social a difficult place to live. The water is often shut off for long stretches of time. The fire alarm frequently goes off at all hours of the day, which is a challenge for anyone who works from home like I do. The gym has been closed indefinitely for over a month. The lobby elevator was broken for weeks, worked for two days, and is currently broken again. This makes you unable to buzz in guests, because there is no stair access to the lobby. Instead, you must bring your guests in through the alley next to The Social. The problem on top of all of these issues is the lack of communication from The Social in notifying us of these problems. Instead of sending out notices to their tenants, they post signs around the building. If I’m working from home, and don’t leave my apartment, there’s no way for me to see that the water is shut off from the sign they post on my door. I do not know why The Social chooses not to email or call their tenants with notices like this, but it is highly inconvenient. When you email or call about the issues, it’s often days until you get a response. I have enjoyed my time at The Social because I love the neighborhood, but I will not be living here once my lease is up.
First of all, the apartment itself is great. However the standards of the building itself are absolutely atrocious. There are 2 elevators, one of which as been out for weeks now. And there is absolutely no other way to access the floors without using an elevator, so given that 100+ people now only have one elevator to use, plan for it to take 5+ mins to either get to your apartment from the garage or down to the garage from your apartment. The gym has been closed for weeks without explanation. Maintenance fix response times are dismally slow. When touring the apartment in Mar 2021, we noticed a handful issues and called them out, and were told they could be easily resolved. 18 months later a lot of them have yet to be addressed. All in all it is billed as a Luxury Apartment Complex. However more than half the time at least one of the “luxurious” features is broken. So if you like the look of an apartment and are willing to pay a premium for it, to each their own. But certainly don’t plan on a luxurious environment outside of the unit itself. Also worth noting that two people have been shot at in separate occurrences since we have lived here, one killed, right outside of our bedroom window.
My daughter and her friend moved into the social in February of 2022. I had to serve as a guarantor because my daughter did not have the credit history having just graduated and I understand that. For some reason they list the guarantor as a tenant even though we don't live there and they know that. What frustrates me is that she is being charged as if the guarantor is living in the apartment. They are charging her for garbage and water costs for more people living in the apartment than actually live there when they are well aware the guarantors live hours away. In addition to that frustration the water is shut off all time for extended periods of time. The gym was also a major attraction for her decision to live there and now it has been closed for a while with no indication as to when it will reopen. The communication on that is pretty awful. I like things about the apartment and location but the ongoing issues are very frustrating.
I really am not one to often leave negative reviews but I felt that I had to warn other people from getting ripped off from this place. It's insane how much rent is and that they call themselves a "luxury building" yet many days they can't even provide the most basic of necessities. There is some type of massive leak happening in the building that causes them to shut the water off OFTEN. There have been weeks where the water was turned off 4 days in a row and this has been happening since I moved in. The leak is never fixed and they do not always give us notice before shutting off the water. Also while attempting to "fix" this leak they often mistakenly turn on the fire alarms. I have been woken up multiple times at 8 AM to the blaring alarm. But that's not all. A huge reason why I paid for this building was because it had a gym. To bad for me that it has been closed for over a month with no communication of when it will be open. Have they offered me any type of rent reduction because of this? Of course not. But hold on there's more, our lobby elevator is down and has been now for over 3 weeks. There are no stairs that lead to our lobby meaning that there is no way now to buzz guests into our building and that there is no elevator on the ground floor. Additionally, our unit was not ready when we moved in. The kitchen bar we had been promised took two weeks to arrive. My shower handle fell off the first time I tried to use it and our kitchen tile flooring was clearly rushed. Lastly, it is very difficult to get in contact with the people who work here, we had a question that our building manager was not able to answer and it took months of begging to reach someone from the main office. All "Deels Properties" cares about is your paycheck, not your living experience, I would beware of all their properties, not just "The Social". Additionally, I would take any positive reviews with a grain of salt for they recently had a "review challenge" where they offered people amazon gift cards and other prizes in return for reviews. I think these types of challenges encourage people who haven't been living in the building long to post their reviews and is a tad dishonest of a practice.
We’ve lived at the Social since February 2021. This building has a lot of great things to offer but also significant downsides. In my opinion, the building is way overpriced even when you factor in the amenities like the 3-foot pool and gym. Even though the area is very walkable and close to public transportation and things to do, it’s not very safe as there have been reports of shootings and frequent loiters doing drugs near the building. There have also been accounts of theft in the building as my car was recently broken into inside the gated garage. Designated parking is still great though and the apartments are spacious. The biggest issue is probably the water in the building. Anytime there is a plumbing maintenance issue in one unit they need to shut off the water for the entire building. This is a regular occurrence where we’ve gone without water in the building for more than 30 days. And without hot water for even more time. The plumbing issue has also caused flooding in the building, causing tenants to live with water damage and leaks. Flooding also sets off the building’s alarm which can be a hassle for pet owners, disabled tenants, and anyone who works from home. This is a major issue even if the building is handicapped-accessible and pet-friendly. The best thing about living here though might be the management and maintenance team. Christine is incredibly communicative and helpful. She always tries to go above and beyond. The other neighbors and tenants are very kind as well. Even if someone is having a party, they’re respectful of the noise. Plus the walls are fairly thick so you can’t really hear the other units. In the end, the building's problems and the high prices don't justify staying here long-term which is unfortunate.
We moved in October of 2021 and so far the experience has been the best out of all the apartments we've leased in Los Angeles. Christine is incredibly communicative and helpful, the building is well maintained and secure, and the neighbors are kind and quiet (or at least the walls are thick enough that you can't hear noise from other units). We have had a few issues with water dripping, leaks, and replacing doors, but management was quick to resolve them - and if it wasn't able to be resolved quickly (i.e waiting on vendors, etc), they kept us updated on the status during the process, which was very much appreciated. All in all, 10/10 would make the decision to move here again and would highly recommend checking it out.
Despite issues popping up as they do in all apartments, management has been helpful in resolving them. It's a pretty nice place to live.
We live for 2 years already in this apartment complex - it is very lovely, but I just feel lucky that we have such a great manager Christine who takes such a good care of all our needs. Also the maintenance team is just above and beyond! They're trustworthy and very thorough. If something needs to be fixed we simply leave a maintenance request online and say they can enter at any time, even we are not home, so by the time we are back everything is fixed. This level of "customer care" is just a rear thing and I feel very grateful, thank you guys!
i’ve lived here for a year and a half and i love it here !! It really feels like home!!! Christine, our property manager, really stays on top of things and is always available if needed. Maintenance is really nice, too. The building stays well maintained and am always greeted with a friendly smile and hello by everyone that works here (the neighbors are cool too!).
I've lived at The Social for almost 6 years. I love the building. Maintenance repairs are fairly quick and they have done many upgrades to the unit and bldg. We now have lockers for our packages, electric car chargers and upgrades thermostats. I also really enjoyed the tenant appreciation taco night and ice cream social. I would recommend!
I've lived here close to five years if not five years already. In that time we've had a lot of different managers but our most recent one that has stuck by for a bit now has been the most helpful & most professional. She's always making sure to help us in anyway possible and to fix any issues that arise
Great place to live, at a reasonable price. The building has a perfect number of units, not too many but not too few. Believe it is about 40 units. Building is pet friendly too, so thats a plus. The location is ideal, very close proximity to grocery stores, freeways, etc.. Our building manager, Casey, is extraordinary. She is on top of it all and doesn't drop the ball. She is very attentive and takes care of things in a timely manner.
This place is great and has an amazing location. Also a bunch of friendly neighbors!!
I’ve been living at the Social for over 6 years with my family. The building is super quiet and we have never had any major issues. The apartments are super spacious and beautiful. I live in a penthouse and the views are gorgeous. I love the high ceilings and all the natural light. I’ve been here thru 3 managers maybe 4 and they always are prompt with issues.
This building has some major pros but also some significant cons. Pros: The location is in a walkable, relatively safe neighborhood close to lots of things to do, public transportation, and major freeways. The apartments are spacious and on the newer, more updated side. There are some amenities (i.e. a pool, a gym, etc.). The building is dog friendly (we have two dogs, so this was significant). Cons: The building is not very well maintained, and management is not very responsive. The building changed hands shortly after we moved in, and it has gotten *better*, but there are still problems with management communication issues, maintenance response time, regular elevator problems, and theft in the building (specifically my bike was stolen from inside the garage). In my opinion, this building is significantly overpriced, but that is unfortunately the nature of the game when you're looking for apartments in Los Angeles and care at all about location. The rent does not switch to month-to-month after the first year. It should. Your rent is determined by an algorithm (based on time of year and availability in the building), rather than a set price for what the apartment is worth.
Fantastic property and Management. When living in apartments in Los Angeles problems come up it just the way it is. The Social makes sure solving these problems is easy and quick.
Onsite manager is very friendly and attentive. Maintenance issues get taken care of in a relatively quick fashion. I have been here 3 years and they improved since that time. I will probably sign another lease.
Do you love exercise? The Social is NOTORIOUS for broken elevators, which makes this place a great fit for those who want to stay fit. Do you often forget to shower at times? No worries, The Social is known for shutting off water frequently, which gives you a new excuse for your forgetfulness. Do you have sensitive ears to loud sounds? Here at The Social, they offer free ear testing with repeated fire alarms, day and night, saving you money at a real doctor. Ever want to do your part and help with the homeless? At The Social, the homeless are always welcomed! Wether they stay the night in the elevator, back staircase or even in the gated garage, the homeless always have a place to call home. Do you like to waste money? At The Social, you’ll never have to worry about how to waste your money again. They offer up to 10% back on all security deposits regardless of how much wear & tear and time spent at the property. 3 property managers, an unexplained influx of pricing for the utility bills and one too many sketchy motel guests later, I decided to leave. If this place is still an option for you, then you should re-read my review. However, it could've been worse...there could've been roaches.
Moved to this complex last fall and I couldn't be happier! The building stays clean and quiet. The management is always on top of everything and response quickly. I have no complaints!
I've been in my apartment for over 3 years. When I moved in, I got a great deal because of my phenomenal credit. I have a 2 bed/2bath. It is incredibly spacious (about 1200 sq. feet) with all of the amenities you could ask for in an apartment/building. The washer and dryer inside is a big perk and so is the central heat and air! The pool doesn't get much sun, but it's nice enough for afternoon layouts. It's in a really fantastic, artsy area with everything you could need near by. It's also close to two metro stations. They're pet friendly, for a added deposit. The elevator breaks down a lots, especially in the summer, but there is another. I wish that there were hardwood floors instead of carpet. Also, I had the carpets deep cleaned on my own expense, even though I've been here 3 years and was under the impression management should and would cover it. The other thing I didn't like was that I had a roommate move in for a few month. She was added as an addendum to the lease and not only were they putting my name on 30 day noticed when SHE failed to pay her full rent several times... They also held me responsible for returning her security deposit when she moved and and said her deposit "went toward the apartment". I will say that even though they jump on every opportunity to raise the rent, I still can't beat the deal I'm getting! I hope this is helpful. Best of luck to you!
