Stretching along the west side of I-69 in Downtown Houston, Discovery Green is the name of the neighborhood set between I-45 and Franklin St., as well as the park at its center. The park itself is the center of many city-wide events and celebrations, and some of Houston’s best restaurants and bars are just outside the sprawling green space.
Home to some of Houston’s most luxurious apartments, Discovery Green makes for convenient living in the fourth largest city in the country. Renting here puts residents minutes away from George R. Brown Convention Center, Minute Maid Park, and the House of Blues Houston. The shopping and entertainment centers along Main St. are just blocks away too.

Property Ratings at The Star
Excellent, efficient experience in securing a lease and recently moving in. Shoutout to Brandon, my leasing agent, for having a great attitude and being responsive as well as helpful. He comprehensively answered detailed questions regarding the property, rapidly accommodated a last-minute request to adjust the lease term before move-in and went out of his way to put in a maintenance request on my behalf during move-in regarding a small improvement needed to be made in the unit. Two concierge professionals that I have interacted with, Farhan and Jeniah (apologies for potential mispronunciation), have also been diligent and helpful. The historical context of the building is interesting, the units, amenities and different services offered appear to be great, and I am excited to begin living here.
Property Manager at The Star, Responded To This Review
Thank you for sharing your review. We agree that Brandon and the Concierge team are pretty awesome. We look forward to continually exceeding your expectations.
We've been living here for 10 months. It's been great! We love the amenities, the views, the neighborhood, and the staff! There's been quick responses to maintenance requests. And the staff/concierge has been consistently professional. We love it here!
The amenities are a big selling point, but the overall care of the building and attention to detail is also a factor. The building is very clean and the staff is friendly and helpful.
Your Staff is amazing! It starts with leadership and goes from there. Very professional
I feel completely safe - that is worth the price of admission! No better customer service from the front office and staff!
The Star offers all of the amenities you could possibly want in an apartment building - the units are all very spacious with lots of storage availability and high ceilings - and the embedded Bluetooth and soft-closing cabinets are an added bonus. Additionally, the communal amenities are top notch (golf simulator, pool, gym, car steamer/cleaner service, in-house dry cleaning service, etc.) Our leasing agent, Jill, was phenomenal when it came to showing us various unit options all within our desired budget. She is personable, knowledgeable about the building/space, and very convincing! While touring the apartment, one of the tenants at the building recognized Jill and addressed her by name - this was honestly the tipping point for us as it showed us that the tenants are clearly fond of Jill and that she is well-known on the property. We toured 4 other apartment buildings also in the downtown Houston area, and no other option even remotely compared to The Star. Safe to say, we are excited to become new residents!
I would recommend this property to someone who did not have pets. The pet park was not great and the area is somewhat unsafe with the homeless population. I think the inconveniences I experienced would be different for a person that did not have dogs.
The convenience of downtown living. The growth of downtown. The beautiful apartments.
The entire experience is Awesome the entire Staff and the Valet is very pleasant and they make Tge Star feel like home...
The quality and the staff were all professional but yet made me feel at home from beginning to end down to the person I first engaged at the security desk.
The building is beautifully restored and I know if Joselh showed them a place, they wouldn't be pressured and would get the best service possible.
Joseph was amazing. Helpful, informative, understanding, thoughtful. Love this guy!!!
Expensive, too much traffic through bldg and lots of homeless- despite efforts no real sense of community
Ebony addressed all my concerns, met me where I was. She was honest and friendly. She didn't make me feel rushed to make a decision. She kept me informed.
The star lost its soul, when the valet guys were in the front you’d walk in and see the concierge chat it up all friendly and happy. Then all the restrictions and rules came w the new property manager and no late night valet, cheap. Was incredible at first but the honeymoon phase ended w the new property managers.
We love the community. Rachael is fantastic to work with.
The more I interact with the people that work at The Star, the more I love it! Perfect balance of professional and personable. Such a great team. I love being a part of the community!
I would recommend The Star because the units are affordable, the location is good, and the units look nice. The only issue is the floors are difficult to keep clean and scratch easily.
before relocating in October, I lived at the star nearly 16 months. You won’t find a better staff or building to live at in Houston. Ebony and Danielle made my time at the star a breeze. I would definitely return if I move back to Houston.
I would recommend this community to people that do not own dogs. Because of the lack of dog run/area, I have to walk my dogs and have already been hit by a car at an intersection.
Joseph was wonderful. He answered all my questions and I am excited about moving in!!!
I very much enjoy living at The Star and would recommend others to live here as well.
First, my move-in process was VERY frustrating. I reserved the freight elevator ahead of time through the leasing office - they were aware of the truck bringing all of my belongings from NYC. When the delivery team arrived (1 hour late) they could not pull the truck in because a trash dumpster was blocking the loading zone. The movers threatened me with additional fees, and luckily the building eventually figured out how to move the dumpster. I was shocked at the lack of communication on the building side - the man from the construction team told me that no one from the leasing office told him that the freight elevator was reserved that day. Also, when I was originally considering The Star, I was alarmed by of all of the bad reviews online regarding a lot of extra foot traffic because of Stay Alfred's presence in the building. (I was mugged at knife point in NYC by someone that snuck into my building.) While it is convenient to have the hotel available for out of town guests, the level of foot traffic for the pool and gym is remarkable, even though my leasing agent assured me that this issue had been tackled since those reviews were posted. I've seen so many people walk past the front desk and straight to the pool since I moved in, and have been surprised at how many people talk to me in the gym and say they are staying at the hotel. It seems as though the communication between Stay Alfred and their guests is incredibly low, and The Star is made to look bad because of it. These two items aside, I have been so impressed by the state of the building itself. It's pristine 100% of the time. And the concierge team is all incredibly sweet and helpful, as is the leasing office staff.
I would recommend due to location and quality; however, I would caution them about our building being apartments and a hotel.
yes
I like the building and the location. Not happy that we are ?renting? units like a hotel to strangers.
The staff is amazing so friendly and willing to help. Over the top service, Ebony and Danielle are so efficient and sweet!
We enjoy living here. It is very easy for us, everything is taken care of.
Although the amenities are not complete, I love living at the Star. The management team is amazing. My apartment did have a few things that could have been improved upon move in but I do understand that we are still under construction. I love my new home!
I can't give this a 10 because I am not sure I would recommend The Star again, anytime soon (I have already referred one resident who moved in) because of the dirtiness in the elevators, hallways, elevator lobbies, and trash room. Additionally, several times, lately, any delivery person has been automatically let up to my apartment without me getting a call to verify. I don't appreciate this. Both the dirtiness and unauthorized people have not been issues until lately, like within the last few weeks.

Location, location, location. Perfect location, accessible to everything. Great for Uber, although the Uber map usually has the drivers show up at the rail stop instead of at our building, but that is an Uber issue.
The Star is a great property, in a great location, at a great value. If you want to live downtown - and I do - this is a very good choice. I toured every downtown property and chose The Star. I do not regret it at all. It also has friendly, helpful people in all positions. From the concierge to the valet personnel to the rental staff to the management- everyone has been nothing but nice and responsive to me. The building has a cool vibe you can only get from a building built in 1915 but that has been completely renovated to 2018 standards. My apartment has high coffered ceilings, 1 1/2 modern baths, Bluetooth speaker system built-in, USB charging plugs, and huge panoramic insulated windows. Yes, all the amenities are not completed. However, they give you an additional $350 discount and provide free responsive valet parking until the parking, pool, and workout facility are ALL completed. Did you really want to sit at a pool this last two weeks (snow and 20 degrees) or save $350 a month? They also give you a free membership at the Downtown Athletic Club so you can still get your workout. The personnel from the valet to the Concierge to the leasing staff to the management - have all been professionals, friendly, and responsive. I will say, the metro that passes right in front of the property (horn at intersections) can be distracting but it stops running while I am sleeping so not a huge deal. The construction on the amenities has seemed to drag on but for $350 a month offset I am not upset at all until at least April. Considering all factors, which I did, The Star is a very solid choice. I am very happy with my decision to lease my apartment on the 4th floor at the Star. Sent from iPhone. Please excuse autocorrect mistakes.
This is by far the worst apartment complex I've lived in. The staff management is terrible and the valet is NEVER available or on time and always makes you late but the parking garage that was supposed to be finished My now is nowhere close to being completed. Rent is NOT cheap by any means even with the discounts they offer. NONE of the amenities they list or promise are even beginning to be constructed yet somehow they're always doing construction on something. We were promised that that construction wouldn't bother us and we wouldn't hear any of it but that's all we hear during the morning and day. On top of that it takes weeks to get a response from any member of staff either through email or phone call and half the time they aren't available when you ask for them. Internet and cable took months longer than promised and is ONLY available through the complex themselves. Staff constantly seems to be changing and never knows what is going on or can never give you a clear answer on anything. Terrible management, noisy, and rude. So disappointed. PLEASE do not waste your money here.
