Red Mile is really a collection of a few neighborhoods that surrounding the horse racing track for which it’s named. Just a few minutes west of the center of Lexington and the University of Kentucky, Red Mile hosts a variety of affordable apartments and homes, and opens residents up the walkable locale that is Lexington.
Aside from the popular race track, Red Mile is largely residential. If you’re hungry or looking to shop, South Broadway on the neighborhood’s southern edge has plenty to offer in the way of food and retail. If you’re looking to unwind within the neighborhood, Addison Park and Gary Brewer Jr. Golf Course make for a prime picnic spot or leisurely evening spent practicing your swing.

Property Ratings at The Stretch
Living in a construction zone. The new management is making upgrades but it's just the same thing every year. They make upgrades and then sell it to a new company for more money than they bought it. The office and maintenance come into our apartment every week and when asked to work with schedules they politely agree but still do whatever they want. They brag about the pool area when it is tiny. And the A.C. Breaks every other week. Our oven hasn't worked in 3 years and then comes in and “fixes it” and when they leave it just goes back to F10 (gets hotter than it's supposed to) and the breaker throws.
Every time I call I speak to someone new, they always say “we’ll get back to you at said date” it’s usually a two day window. I have never gotten a call back, only an e-mail.. And they don’t respond to those either. You would think during your busier time of year, you would prepare for a an influx of calls and inquiries. The professional level of the staff is pretty low. I’ve been in correspondence with 5 different people for two months, and to no avail have not received any kind of courtesy. The bookkeeper said “it is what it is” and I’ve never cringed harder in my life lol.
The management is not at all concerned about your problems. Never opt for a four bed room apartment if you are a student. They just fill in people randomly and you will be stuck with them for 6 months to one year. The management is not ready for any compromise or adjustments. The apartment is cheap but honestly it's not a value for money option.
I wish I could give them no star for the unsafe and unhealthy living conditions they offer. This place is absolutely unsafe and management doesn’t care. There are no cameras, there’s always domestic violence and guns being shot. They do not care about their residents safety nor well being. I advise anyone looking for a place to live to not even bother even touring here. If you love yourself and care about your safety it’s best you look for somewhere gated with great security because there is none. They have a sheriff car out there but no sheriff.
The Stretch is an awful place to live. I’ve been living here 6 months now, & I’ve had problems the entire time. I do not understand how anyone has been given this place a 5-star rating with the safety issues alone! There are shootings AT LEAST once a week. I have called the police a few times because of domestic abuse or fighting in the parking lot. In fact, the police are at my building RIGHT NOW because there were gun shots at midnight and fighting in the street. Not only that, but people have LOUD parties (during covid) and smash glass bottles on the stairs and sidewalks every weekend. There are no cameras anywhere, and I’ve had to put a dash cam in my car because it was broken into. I am not the only person who has reported this. Getting maintenance to fix anything is such a hassle. It took them 2 weeks to fix my oven after I moved in. Also, the faucet to my sink has been broken for months. We’ve put in 3 requests to have it fixed but every time they say it’s done, the next person who tries to turn it on ends up picking the handle off the faucet again (because it was never fixed). I could honestly go on about maintenance issues and the poor quality of the unit, but it would take so long. Do not trust the room they show you when you tour!! Although I’ve been living in a 4 person unit, usually it’s just been me and one other girl. When it’s just us, we can fit all our food and dishes into the pantry, fridge, and cabinets fine. However, it got a lot trickier when they added another girl. Recently, we got an email about how we are possibility getting two more roommates & I have no clue where we are going to put all our stuff. There is not enough kitchen space for four people. Also, we don’t even know who is moving in or when they will be here. Finally, they state all of their bedrooms are the same size, but they are lying. I have the smallest room in the apartment and it is a SIGNIFICANT difference compared to the other three rooms. All in all, this place is just not worth the price unless you genuinely cannot afford anywhere else. The price is what originally sold me to live here— especially when they promised a $500 gift card I could apply to my rent. But surprise! I never got it. And when I asked about it, they told me there was nothing they could do. It is 100% worth it to pay the extra $100 to live somewhere else, and I will definitely be leaving when my lease is up. I am begging you to do yourself a favor when I say do not stay here.
If you genuinely just need a place to sleep/not speak to others, this is great. If you already have set roommates and are an eternal optimist this is okay. The roommate matching is awful. The customer service leaves A LOT to be desired. Honestly, the price of what you get is not worth the peace of mind that you lose. If you’re a responsible young adult, I would not recommend this place at all. I’m genuinely a joyful person, but this place has been MISERABLE. This is not to be rude, but you’re better off spending the extra $100 to live somewhere that is honest and trustworthy. Save yourself.
I really do believe the management of this apartment is writing in 5-star reviews on this website because all the other real reviews were not good and actually told the truth of how awful this place is and the management. They come into the apartment with barely any notice and come in all the time for no reason. Maintenance is very slow at fixing things even if they are important and do not even fix them right so the things are still broken after they leave. Everything here is very cheap and breaks very easily and they refuse to replace anything. The management is rude and does not care at all. I could go on and on about how awful this place is and I'm sure others could too. Almost everyone here leaves after their lease is up and I do not blame them. I would never recommend this place to anyone. DO NOT LIVE HERE.
For the value of rent they charge, this is among the best places to live for college students or young professionals in Lexington. I've been here for 4 years and lived under three separate management groups and I haven't had one single issue with management since moving in. They are in the process of renovating and making the place fresher, so hopefully it remains as good as it did after I leave The only major gripe I have (and the reason I cannot nor will not give this place 5 stars) is maintenance stinks. For whatever reason this apartment always has A/C issues, and they never resolve it. They've also shown tendencies in the past to wait until it's urgent to act on a request rather than responding immediately. Big thumbs down in my view, but that's the only complaint you will here from me.
Our apartment had bugs and we had to call over and over to get it taken care of. Massive water leak, which led to water damage that was never fixed. Apartment was NOT clean when we moved in we were promised they would do fresh paint because there were footprints ALL over the wall that never happened. In the lease it says they spray for bugs several times a month that is a lie. Yes electricity is included but just to keep your place warm it goes WAY over. While me and my roommate were out maintenance came into our apartment and left the door wide open and left the building. Anyone could have gone into our apartment. Our oven was broken for 2 months and no one would come to fix it. Someone was attacked by the dumpsters one night, once we heard gunshots. Not at ALL a good place to live. I could go on and ON about things that happened here— in short— It was disgusting, poorly managed, and not safe. Spend more and get somewhere that is actually livable.
This is a really impressive apartment complex that has great people involved with the area and the location. They are willing to look out for your best interests and make sure that you feel at home.
This is my second apartment, but I honestly wish it was my first. I should rented here a long time ago. For student housing, I have so much more space than I did at my last place & than the other places I looked before making my decision. Everyone is so friendly & professional. My apartment was very clean & everyone who visits loves my place. I definitely recommend moving here. Best decision I've made in my young adult life!
I legit can't say enough great things about this apartment complex and their management. I'm not from the area, but I moved here to attend UK, and I feel sooo at home here because of them & my apartment. They did such a great job matching me & my roommates. We are instant friends! I can't thank the staff enough. The apartments aren't the newest, but they feel modern because of the upgrades they did, and because the maintenance is always so quick to fix anything that's needed. I love that they have events & free food so often. I swear the managers are so easy to talk to and really seem to genuinely care about me & everyone who lives here. They even address me by name, and I've heard them greet others by name when I'm in the office. This means a lot to me, and makes me feel like a priority. They even call to just check to see how we're doing and if we need anything from time to time. I highly recommend living here... rent is a great value too! Ask for Alissa, Crystal, Aaron, or Karlil. Tell them I sent you! :)
I have lived here for about 2 years, the management in the beginning with Armando was fantastic. However, when Crystal came aboard I noticed a decline in the customer service due to laziness in the representatives and the care during repairs. The new management felt hostile and unwelcoming, with issues concerning our HVAC system Crystal had dismissed our complaints and assumed that we were incorrect and had turned it down lower than it was supposed to be. Our fridge had broken down 2 times before it was replaced with a brand-new unit and we had effectively lost over $400 in food which as college students is hard to recoup and barely had enough food to eat for the next month. They had painted the ceiling of our apartment which normally would not have been an issue except for the painting crew coming in unannounced and unexpected, we were supposed to receive a notice of 24-48 hours. The paint had ended up in my roommates piano, our cat's food and water bowls, among other things. The internet at the time almost every week had went down, and was replaced with centralized internet routers and modems causing slower internet due to heavy traffic. The apartment itself was pretty decent for student living but the management was our main complaint.
The apartment itself is great but management is horrible. They conned me into renewing my lease and their true colors started showing. They constantly lie and then threaten they will take you to court. I wouldn’t want my worst enemy living here. Also the Internet usually never works. It works for a day or two then goes out and management says it’s “not their problem”.
I have lived here two years and I love it. This place is great!!!! This prices are great!!!
As a college student who is on a budget, this place is great for what you pay for; fully furnished, all utilities (including electric!), and a low parking fee for the whole year.
I have loved living here! Great amenities and wonderful staff! I love being so close to the bus stop for class, and I love all the resident events each month! :)
I loved my stay here and can’t imagine living everywhere else. The staff is so friendly, and the rooms are spacious and clean.
This is was the first time I had lived in an apartment in college and I am so thankful for how much help I received. The staff was recently really helpful when my cars battery died and someone had jumper cables and came out to help me jump the car which I have never done before and non the less on finals week when I really need to be somewhere. I am looking forward to the pool opening and have also loved all the event with free food.
This place is such a great place to live! The staff is so friendly and helpful to all our needs. I love living so close to campus and on the bus line as well.
I currently live here. I was told I could move in on a certain day so I showed up that day with a full car only to be told it wouldn't be ready for a week. I had to drive three hours back home. Now that I live here, I can never sleep. The walls are so thin. The people above us blast their music 24/7. We call the management office twice a month and nothing ever gets better. Needless to say we never sleep and that's what apartments are for. Don't waste your money.
