The Sur is a nice community to live. The atmosphere is welcoming and the residents are friendly. The location is on the South end of Arlington and close to Alexandria. You can walk to a mini market and Target & Total Wine is two stop lights away.

Beautiful apartments, quality appliances and upgrades, great amenities and location. Professional staff, maintenance staff is amazing. My apartment and several others have a very bad odor coming from toilets. Something about poor air pressure in the building. Awful. Not all units but quite a few

In my opinion they don't care about handicapped parking. They only want to do the bare minimum. They are constantly taken and keep people looking for spaces that are not there. The manager stated that it would be too hard to convert them back once they expand a few spots. One excuse after another. The elevators are down more than they are up it seems. Entrance doors are constantly broke allowing anyone in or out as they feel like it. The garage door has been broke for about 6 months. Almost everytime someone moves out, the electric gets shut off stopping the air conditioning in multile apartments from working, for us its happened 3 times in the last month. We were hoping the new management company would make things better.. that has not been the case at all.. beautiful place but check things out before you move in.

Hi Tony, we appreciate your concern on wanting to add more handicapped parking spaces. That is not a correct statement on what was said about converting them back. What was shared was that we are noting your request and that it is not as simple to convert a current space into a handicap by simply painting it blue as you suggested. We appreciate you sharing your ideas on how we can quickly make these changes but we do need to make sure we are following all city and county guidelines. We do have handicapped spaces on all 3 levels of our garage and are compliant with the county guidelines for the number and location of these spaces.
Close to everything but not in the mix for a respite at home. Spacious interiors and crafted amenities make living here a great experience.

I have lived at the Sur for almost 2 and a half years. I was satisfied with Van Metre management company. So far in the three months working with Greystar, I am not satisfied. They are full of excuses. In my opinion as a resident, I would seriously consider another apartment complex, before renting at the Sur.

The marijuana scent in the building has become unbearable. It is frequently extends from the hallways into the elevators, lobby, and parking garage. I have heard that multiple floors are having the same issue. The smell is frequently strong enough in our unit that we have to open all of windows (even in heat, humidity, and cold) to get some relief - this happens multiple times a day. We have been in contact with management since April about this issue with no resolution (over 6 months) - we have sent emails as well as gone down to speak with them in person as the smoking was occurring. The exact unit smoking has been identified and management has no interest in solving the issue. If you are concerned about second-hand smoke affecting your health I do not recommend living in The Sur until they are able to control this issue.

The Sur has been a great place to live this past few years! Being one of the initial waves of residents me and my GF have seen a few issues that are typical with new buildings/residences the size of the Sur. Although the issues can raise a concern, I give the benefit of the doubt that the owners will iron out the rough edges in 2022/2023. Regardless choosing the Sur will certainly make you a happy resident as the staff and location + units are AMAZING!! It’s one thing to have a nice view but it’s another to have great staff which cares for their residents and for each other (which is great to see/witness). The events that the Sur also holds for its residents are also top notch and the investments made to make us happy are certainly appreciated!

I want to preface by saying the Sur is a beautiful building physically. But as a lot of other reviewers from other sites have said, the experience of living here has been tarnished by the leasing office and management. I moved in not to long ago, and there has already been two “preventative maintenance” requests enforced by the building, where where maintenance and Van Metre representatives enter your private space for things like “recaulking windows” and “routine maintenance”. The first time, they didn’t even mention the reasoning, which is extremely suspicious. On top of that, they come during weekdays when people are working. They go through EVERYTHING including your closets, bedrooms, and more. They make it seem like it’s a logical thing, but it’s not, especially since this building is brand new. Imagine if you’re renting a house and your landlord comes into your private spaces for vague “preventative maintenance” every other month, seems pretty ridiculous doesn’t it. They act like it’s justified when no other landlord would dare give a dumb reasoning for entry when there aren’t any problems in the majority of apartments. It’s an invasion of privacy. In addition, the use of Fetch is completely unnecessary. They have a storage room where they keep packages. I guess they just want to shift the responsibility to have residents deal with it. It’s a waste of $12 per month. When you apply for the building, they ask you to pay up the $500 admin fee. It was never clarified what that entailed. They said it was similar to an amenity fee, so I just paid it. However, being that the 8th floor space, the entry way on the first floor, and the doors on the south side are completely inaccessible, it makes me wonder if the $500 was just another way for them to pocket the money and give nothing in return. It’s extremely shady.
