With rows of historic and colorful buildings lining wide sidewalks and jaunty awnings adorning locally-owned shops and cafes, there's good reason many new residents seek out Greenpoint. This trendy neighborhood is located in northern Brooklyn, and it really does have something for everyone: it is filled with artists, it is the go-to place for the finest restaurants and bars around, and it has some of the best public schools in New York. The neighborhood is so photogenic it was even used as the setting for HBO's hit series, Girls. It provides terrific parks, such as McCarren Park, which is home to the Greenpoint McCarren Park Greenmarket -- a year-round farmer's market. Msgr. McGolrick Park is home to a historic pavilion, a playground, picnic areas, and several monuments.
Go walking along Manhattan Avenue, Greenpoint's busy shopping district, and you'll discover why so many are moving to this once-hidden location.

Property Ratings at The Sweater Factory
Let me start by saying that I had a situation on my hands in which I had to move out VERY quickly and was lucky enough to find a room in this building with 2 chill roommates. So, let's start off with the positives, the building is in a great location, steps to Williamsburg and the Greenpoint waterfront, and is filled with young Brooklynites who like to leave free stuff in the communal foyer. The building is on the newer side, and the apartment interior is updated and modern with stainless steel appliances. There are laundry rooms on every floor, which is a major game changer, and a service elevator to help with your move. But, don't be fooled by all of the above. It's obvious the the building owners cut costs when turning this former warehouse into residences. They call the spaces lofts, purely based on ceiling height, because our apartment is not large enough to be considered a loft by any other standard. The walls that make up my room are paper thin, and I can clearly hear the tenants on the other side of the wall. Because the landlords wanted to fit as many apartments as possible into this building, they outfitted the majority of bedrooms with loft platforms as space savers. In fact, my room is an interior room with no windows to the outside. So sleeping in the room, in the middle of a New York summer, can only be seen as torture since I have nowhere to put an AC unit. I am, however, lucky enough to have a opening to the kitchen, right next to my bed, which is covered by a plastic sheet. I had to install curtains, so the lights from the kitchen would not bother me. But that's not all, since I am on the 1st floor, I am constantly struggling to fall asleep at night because of my neighbors upstairs. They seem to live a nocturnal lifestyle and I can only assume they like to run in circles in the apartment for recreational activity because the constant thumping is SO LOUD. Lately there have been issues with the Super following up on maintenance requests. We have had water leaks from the apartment above and a non-working oven for weeks now and the Super has not come by to fix these things, even though he said he would. Its just frustrating to know that the owners are collecting so much money from all the tenants, and its ok for them to slack on the maintenance of people's apartments.
