Koreatown is a vibrant LA neighborhood fille with hidden gems, bars, eateries, and a collision of cultures. As the name suggests, the atmosphere in Koreatown is heavily influenced by Korean culture. The neighborhood is a favorite destination among foodies city-wide for its endless selection of authentic Korean restaurants, but the community has a much more diverse character than that: the broad range of cultural influences is exemplified in landmarks like the synagogue and contemporary art gallery of the Wilshire Boulevard Temple, the Latin fusion cuisine of Roy Choi’s restaurants, and the popular German/Korean/Hawaiian tinged gastropub, Biergarten.
Although the area is a hot spot for LA residents’ day trips, Koreatown is known as one of the best places to live in LA. Most locals rent their homes and enjoy parks, coffee shops, and stores within walking distance of their apartments.

Property Ratings at The Thompson
I had to give the leasing agent 5 stars because he was super helpful, kind, and patient with me. I saw many apartments and met with many different leasing agents but he was the Top Tier. I first saw the apartment yesterday, he showed me the place and honestly it was fantastic. He kindly gave me all the information I needed and showed me all of the amenities/building thoroughly so I would not miss anything. I was very impressed and asked for the application right away. Throughout the application process, he explained everything that I needed and assisted me every step. I really want to give a shoutout to the leasing agent and also to The Thompson. I am looking forward to living here! Very excited.
The management team confirmed that I was scheduled to tour the apartments, but when the date arrived, they said that no tour was scheduled. They were also not transparent at all about the move-in specials that they advertised here. I agree with other reviewers here, they are incompetent. Look elsewhere
The room is good for the price. However, the management team is the worst that I have ever met. The elevators are constantly broken. There were issues with water, electricity, and internet in the building. I remember we had no internet for one week and no hot water for three straight days. We emailed the manager, Joanne, for help and received a reply after two days saying sorry. The utility fixing schedule is also a nightmare. You have to choose a time that fits their time the best for any issue, otherwise, you may end up waiting for weeks for some emergency issue.
Deceptive management, dog pee stains, smelly garbage in the hallways, incredibly loud street noise and internal building noise, outrageously high rent increases, bottom of the barrel appliances that break often. Look elsewhere.
I have been trying to schedule an appointment since EARLY JUNE but I was always being redirected to this third party text center that gives me dates that are 4 weeks away - Okay, that's fine it's understandable that they may be busy and booked up. BUT EVEN WITH THIS DATE BEING 4 WEEKS AWAY, THE LEASING AGENT HAS been CANCELLING my appointments when the date got closer and asked to reschedule 4 TIMES and it is IMPOSSIBLE - and when I say impossible, TRUST me, it'd be easier to solve climate change at this rate - to contact them. Whenever I call the leasing office directly, they kept forwarding me to their voicemail, leaving me uncertain if the leasing agent is even going to show up at my tour appointment. If they are this bad at communicating with their prospective tenants, IMAGINE how bad they are communicating with their current tenants. AND GUESS WHAT, I showed up to my appointment today and the leasing agent WAS A NO SHOW - they didn't even have the decency to TEXT ME OR let me know that they weren't able to show me around. THEY JUST GHOSTED ME - WHAT KIND OF PROFESSIONALISM IS THIS? I waited for 30 minutes outside the building, kept trying to call them but NO LUCK - no one picked up; not a single reply to my messages; I took out time of MY BUSY schedule to make it to this appointment because I was genuinely interested - guess what, you lost a good prospective tenant. THIS TEAM HAS NO SENSE OF PROFESSIONALISM WHATSOEVER - if they can't even respect the time of prospective clients OR HAVE THE DECENCY to reply. NOT WORTH THE STAY. everyone please PLEASE AVOID THIS building and avoid this MANAGMEENT.
Worst management ever since they first opened in 8/2019. Even after a switch in management, no improvement. DO NOT LIVE HERE. More details to come.
The building is gorgeous and I love how they kept some of the old office building memorabilia and incorporated it in the new modern design. Management are super helpful and I've personally had no issues getting in contact with them. They have been nothing but professional and punctual when getting back to me. This place is just a real gem in the heart of Koreatown.
We moved into the Thompson on the first day it opened (august 1st) after many months of delays but we were really happy it finally opened! My apartment is beautiful, very big windows and tall ceilings. You can barely hear any of your neighbors since the walls/floors are so thick (it used to be an office building.) Maintenance does not take long, We needed our sink fixed and it only took a day or 2. All payments are through an app which is really convenient. 24/7 security. Everyone else who lives here seems really nice and i’ve never had a problem with anyone. The lobby and elevators are gorgeous and there’s also a great view of the whole city from the roof. I can see the Hollywood sign from my apartment too ! Love living here
I went in for a viewing this past week at The Thompson, and thought it was very informative. Better than some of the other places i have visited for rent! the management (bryan) was really thorough and answered all my questions that i had. What i liked best was the location of the Thompson and how modern and updated it was. The area it was in seemed really safe as well, which was my main concern and the security seemed really nice and attentive there. Also, since i will be living there by myself, i thought the space was perfect and manageable for a single person home. Overall, i really liked my experience at my showing! highly recommend this apartment :)
We were one of the few tenants who first moved-in at Thompson when they finally opened after months and months of delays. Disappointingly, the building is still unfinished up to now! Exterior windows in the entire building are DIRTY! The concrete columns outside the building are full of paint patchwork looking like graffiti! It looks like we live in an old abandoned building. See the building for yourself and you will immediately see what I am talking about. Think twice before signing a lease at Thompson!
BE AWARE!! I planned to move in to this apartment in late May, did a tour of the unit, submitted my application, paid the deposit, and so on. With the move-in date being delayed for months, I had to find another complex to move into and now I cannot reach the management to request for my refund. I have sent in a request through their leasing office email, but no response or actions taken for three weeks now. All the numbers related to this complex go straight to their company call center, and the call center doesn’t even know how to reach the management besides via email. I’m sure I am not the only one in this situation.
This apartment complex has an extremely loud industrial size air condition unit directly outside of residents windows. It produces noise levels over city regulations, multiple times EVERYDAY. I constantly hear neighbors breaking down and screaming because the noise can be so overbearing at times. If you prefer the ability to hear yourself think I would not recommend living here.
I leased an apartment in the building, and I can say that, yes, communication has been bad. They were originally targeting a late April move-in date, then May, then June 1, June 15, and now (I wish I could say finally)—July 15, it seems. I understand that the delays themselves are more up to the city and departments, but I would expect the management to be upfront and proactive in letting me know about the delays. Instead I have had to chase them for information. In the time being, I've moved my furniture in.
I scheduled a viewing of the building and the management didn't even show up. The building isn't finished being built as the entire lobby was still under construction. I ran into some tenants trying to move in and they told me they've been having the worst time communicating with the management and the building had not yet passed fire inspection. I felt so bad for the security woman who had to deal with all this confusion and the ineptitude of the management.
