Property Ratings at The Towers/Fir Hill
I would give zero stars if it were possible. I have been dealing with a persistent issue of a strong marijuana odor in my unit since last year. Despite raising multiple complaints and being assured that the issue would be addressed, there has been no significant improvement. The landlord’s response is unhelpful, as they expect tenants to identify the source of the odor themselves, making it clear that you cannot rely on them for meaningful action. They prioritize rent collection but show little concern for the rights and well-being of their tenants. Additionally, while they have invested time in refurbishing the building's exterior, the underlying issues remain. The equipment is outdated, and the air conditioning was broken throughout the entire summer. For your own peace of mind, do not rent here.
I can not express how poorly the management The property manager is very unprofessional. When asked several questions about the place his professionalism was horrible as if I was bothering him . Unfortunately I went else where
The previous owners may not have kept up renovations on the building but the new ones are only worried about cosmetics. I'm a current resident in the 55 building and now we have to call directly for laundry maintenance ourselves. Halls were repainted without any heads up, leading to paint on people's clothes. The pipes constantly leak and water is shut off every other week for it. They broke functions for a lot of doors by putting on poor quality wraps on the doors (exterior only), which caused some people to be locked out of their units (myself included), and some others cannot shut their door without locking it as the door itself doesn't latch, now. The inside of the door where it faces out living rooms is still disgusting, chipped, and stained, but tours don't see that so it clearly doesn't matter. Handles and locks stick and are rusted. There's a hole in the glass in the lobby, making it freezing cold in the winter. The back door gets stuck and sometimes the lock just doesn't scan, making you walk around the entire building. It's an absolute mess and become a nightmare to live here, especially for the price.
with Fir Hill Apartments you are paying a premium for location. The apartments are in need of some work, but are nice enough for a college student. Unless you plan to go to the University of Akron find somewhere better to live. For the price you could live a little farther away and get a much nicer apartment. Staff while friendly tends to be cheap. For instance, our dishwasher broke and the one they replaced it with can barely be described as a dishwasher, it frequently takes multiple runs to clean anything. Not a great place to live in Akron for the price but a solid place to start.
Even though Fir Hill is right down the street from the University of Akron, it's quiet and affordable for the family or for college students. Staff is great and very understanding. They are also very friendly! Highly recommend this place.
One of the better run apartment complexes around the university. Be aware that it is a bit older and you are responsible for utilities, but it will end up being cheaper than the "new" places off campus, especially with a roommate. The bedroom sizes are a bit larger than others and the living rooms are very large. The management really tries to take care of their residents, but is very stern about violating the lease rules or late rent payments. Overall, a great place to live if you work or study near UA.
