Property Ratings at The Uptown
Can’t figure out why this place isn’t worse rated. The elevators never work, the garage is never closed. The building is so gross. They need to change the hallway carpet so bad the stains have been there for the entire time we have lived here. Maintenance is friendly but incredibly unresponsive. Incredibly high turnover in the management team. The hallways smell like hot garbage due to the proximity of the dumpster and in the summer the smell is unbearable. Seriously. Look elsewhere, it’s not a good deal.

Thank you for your review. We apologize for the inconvenience of the elevators being out; this is something that can happen in midrise and high rise buildings. We always work diligently to get the elevators back up and running as quickly as possible. If you have any specific concerns that you'd like addressed at the moment, please feel free to reach out to our leasing office so we may better assist you. Thank you!
STAY AWAY from this property, both the Flats and Lofts. I have been living at the Flats location for almost 2 years. ELEVATORS: From before the day I moved in, one of the 2 elevators in the property was down. It took more than 9 months to get it fixed and this was after they said "repairs will take 11 weeks". Finally, that elevator was fixed on December 28, 2022 (more than a year after I had lived in the property) and quickly after that, the other elevator went down permanently. It is still not fixed as of mid-August 2023. GATE: The gate to the parking garage was always an issue and multiple times it had to be propped open with ropes and days would go by without any email or notification of when repairs would be done to it. Something (or someone) damaged it by ramming their car against it and the gate had to be propped wide open from October 2022 to June 2023. PRICE INCREASE: I had to renew my lease and needless to say they wanted to do a heavy increase on the rent prices. Have fun paying exorbitant prices for a property that is not worth it. If they sent updates, expedited repairs like the ones mentioned above, etc. then it would be a different story.

Hi, We’re grateful that you chose to call our community home, and we want to honor that decision by giving you the absolute best experience we possibly can. If you wouldn’t mind giving us a call, we promise to do everything in our power to address your concerns! Thank you, The Uptown
I have lived at the Sawyer for almost a year now. Ever since I moved in there has been major problems with the elevators not functioning. I thought it wasn’t a big issue at first until this happened every 2 weeks until about 7 months ago when one elevator broke down for good leaving us with only 1 elevator- It is important to note the “functioning” elevator makes horrible sounds when you’re in it the mechanism inside- I assumed the wires hit the elevator and it’s is with no exaggeration scary. The building was recently acquired by Weidner properties. We were promised a new elevator ( only 1) back in November - they had originally said that it would take 3 months due to covid. This never happened, with no update just nothing happened. The one terrifying elevator left breaks down every month and it has broken down 2 times this week. The new management company has deceived us and has not made any improvements to the building on the contrary. Now we don’t even have a professional cleaning team so the carpet on the floors haven’t been vacuumed in weeks or deeper cleaned there are pee stains that I have requested the management to please have professionally clean without any follow through. The “functioning” elevator even has broken frames inside that they haven’t even bothered to remove. The garage gate also broke last month it took them 2 weeks to get it to function again. The garage elevator door broke about a week ago. They “fixed” it but installed the mechanism backwards so it now doesn’t shut close automatically so it’s open half of the time. Stay away from this property.
Don't let the new Weidner management fool you. Weidner is even worse than the old management. They are impossible to get in contact with. I've sent upwards of 12 emails with no response. I've called with no resolution to my issues. Talking to them in person does nothing (most working residents can't even see them because their office hours). Because of that, you'd think they'd be more responsive to emails. NOPE. I even asked about upgrading a parking spot (which would have made them money) and they didn't even respond. It's not like they're just avoiding complaints, they're completely unreachable. So unprofessional. Don't be distracted but the pictures of the pretty white kitchen and white walls. The appliances are old and constantly break. Maintenance is slow at getting back to you. The hallways are disgusting and resemble a college dorm. The elevators have never worked properly. Management claimed they were fixing the elevator within 8-12 weeks. It's been 14 weeks with no update. I've given up hope that there will ever be safe, functioning elevators. The gates to the garage continue to malfunction, which is basically welcoming car thefts to the building. I am not the only resident with these concerns. There is a general feeling of "fed-up" among residents and people are bonding because of how bad it truly is. The price they are charging for this poorly run, outdated, dirty apartment building is outrageous. Take your money elsewhere otherwise you will regret every single day of your lease.
I have lived at the Sawyer Lofts for about a year and a half and in this time the elevator (the only way to get to your unit other than stairs) has been broken no less than 10 times and has currently been broken FOUR MONTHS. Management has offered us zero concessions, and has not communicated with residents about this since Oct 12th. My 82 year old father has not been able to visit me in my home for 4 months. The apartment halls are dirty and stinky and the stairwells have cobwebs and dog urine. I love my actual unit, but I would never recommend anyone live here under current management. I do not believe the elevators have ever safely worked. For the premium luxury rent we are paying, we are getting the worst treatment and I am absolutely miserable living here. I feel like a prisoner in my unit. The other tenants and myself are fed up and super unhappy. Do not rent here.

I was considering this property but the elevators have been broken for four months. Yikes! I asked when it would get resolved but it doesn't appear that it's a priority for this property management company - RangeWater. Shame on them. Thankfully, my property locator showed me several other buildings in the area.

Rent somewhere else! This seemed like a great deal for the area but it ended up being a horrible experience and complex. We had to wait almost a whole year to get our maintenance request handled even though the issue existed prior to us moving in and we immediately reported it( a patio door that did not open or close and a large gaping hole in the patio door). The management does not work with you at all on anything. They charge $3000 (twice the rent) if you have to go month to month and they call it "market rate" but won't disclose how they calculated the number. Additionally, the $600 pet fee and pet rent charged every month do not cover basic carpet cleaning for pets when you move out. They charge you another couple of hundred for that even though there is no damage and the carpet isn't new when you move in. This is the only apartment that has ever done this to us and our tiny dog never causes any damage to anything. Also, the elevators never work, they are often both broken, sometimes for weeks at a time meaning you have to take multiple flights of stairs in a dark dingy service stairwell. Out of everywhere we have rented in Dallas, this was our least favorite apartment and management company. We were very disappointed by the whole experience

My car had its window smashed in. The car next to me was stolen and the car on the other side of me got hit with a crowbar within a month. The Apartment complex still believe the “security” is fine. Not a great place to live unless you have great car insurance. Over charges on rent with plenty of other apartments next door that are cheaper with better amenities and living spaces. When I moved in the apartment was filthy. Still has someone else’s hair in the sink!! The floor were scratched up horribly and the carpets had stains. Pool is gross and filled with cockroaches. Excited to move out!

The building is good, the location is fine, and the management is THE WORST. Live here for more than a year now. New management took over around May 2017 and the problems started. They are nice at the beginning, but then… Recent problems: Elevator has issues since they took over. (As usual, the blame is on the previous owners…) One of them constantly does not work so one needs to wait 10 minutes or take the stairs, sometimes both will not work and there is no info that it’s broken. At least send an email or text (21st century…). If you are fit and do not have anything to carry – stairs will work, but if one just came with groceries, good luck on carrying it all up or maybe one just very tired or… . If it happens once – OK, but both elevators were broken four times in the past half a year. Sometimes more than a day. They will say one thing and then deny it, especially Will, the top manager. If one is talking to him, my recommendation do a video recording. Put a work order ticket and sometimes they will be close it without any explanation and no fix. This week the leasing office is under construction and there are no people around. As of this writing the main phone number is going to an answering service during business hours and the message from the answering company sounds similar to “we don’t serve this property anymore”, so good luck on reaching anyone, especially after hours if one is locked out or the AC/Heat doesn’t work. Even much advertised coffee bar is just an advertising. It is available only during business hours and even then, if you are lucky enough, there is actual coffee or sugar. Live all my life in rental properties and this management is the worst.
We have just recently moved into the building and the Manager Will is outstanding! He was extremely helpful through the whole move in process and immediately answered any questions we had. The leasing agent here Michael is also top notch, and even does magic tricks! We are renting a newly renovated unit which can be a scary process, because you can't see a finished product as an example. Will & Michael made sure to keep us informed throughout the process, and even sent us photos of the floor sample ahead of time to plan out our furniture. We viewed every building in West Village before making a decision. We chose this one not just for the amazing unit, but also for the outstanding staff!
