My experience living here this year has been horrible. My apartment is facing Telegraph Ave and it’s very loud and violent. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday there are gunshots, people being murdered, people being robbed, fighting, sideshows, crashing cars, loud people screaming and blasting music all night until 3am. Noise cancellation items do not help. When the residents above me talk, walk, use any appliances including the toilet I can hear. Parking is horrible the price for it is not worth it. When you find a park you can’t get out or into your car and now I have scratches and dents. When you can’t find parking you are forced to walk 4 blocks in a bad neighborhood to see if it is parking in other lots. People allow their dogs to pee on the elevator floor and stairway floor. My family was not able to enjoy the pool area due to the crazy adult parties. Resident blowing smoke in my kids face, cursing, loud talking and drinking alcohol while inside the jacuzzi and pool.

I love the location of the uptown, very close to the freeway, it makes it so easy to get to work and other stores near Emeryville, and Berkeley.

Price is great, location is great, amenities offered are great, staff is great. Overall it's an excellent place to live. Windows are double-paned which is good because the area is next to a popular entertainment venue. But no place is perfect: Actual upkeep of the building is lacking. Elevators in the building are left broken for 3 weeks, the ones which work are missing inspection paperwork. In general, you get the feeling that you are paying somewhere for the reduced cost of this apartment compared to other large downtown apartment buildings. But for many, that's well worth it.

Safe, clean, and friendly. Very comfortable so far. Responsive staff. Quiet. Lovely grounds. I like there is an Amazon locker, on site security, a pool, and a gym. Wish there was air conditioning though.

My experience at the Uptown has had its pros and cons. Pros: -Clean Gym -Pool and Hot tub -Proactive communication about updates to the complex -Safe package storage -Quick maintenance response -Safe parking garages -24 hour security staff -Events Cons: -Inconsiderately loud level of noise at the pool -Rude security staff and one rude member from leasing -Move-out process and overinflated cleaning fees/ attempt to get money from residents when they move

I’ve been living at the Uptown Apartments for over a year now and we’ve had a lot of rotating staff at the front desk although Simone has been great! She’s always friendly and super nice. Most recently when I was on crutches from a broken leg she’s made extra efforts to help ensure my packages and deliveries have made their way up to my apartment so I didn’t have to worry about them.

Property is well maintained, maintenence crew respond very quickly, amazon locker is here so I rarely ever lose a package. Pool is nice, gym is nice.

I am very much enjoying the apartment, building, and neighborhood. My roommates and I were upset about my roommate's bike being stolen from the bike room. We did a deep clean of the floors recently, and realized how filthy they were, and never cleaned before we moved in. The street noise can be a lot sometimes, but we have been sleeping. An orientation would have been helpful (for things like compost, non-chute trash and recycling). The fire alarm situation is horrendous, and very strange. No other building seems to have this policy, so I do not know why the given excuse is in order to comply with code? Communication could be much better, especially with Patty (Building Manager), which is not often needed, but when it is, it is hard to get in touch with her, even for seemingly brief check-ins

Management does their best to work with you and when things are not as they are supposed to be they also do their best to try and fix it , some have more experience than others but you can always ask to talk to someone else until you get what you need done

Other than the major weed/cigarette issue from residents and no air conditioning. Everything else has been good. The amenities are pretty much always available. There’s resident parking or street parking for guests. Security is usually always patrolling. I do wish the call boxes worked and we could actually buzz people in or give a code for delivery’s and the elevator.

Really cool, pretty court yards and the sound of running water from the trellised small waterfalls is relaxing. Nice swimming pool and gym too.

Fire alarm goes off a lot in other units for extended periods of time sometimes and there can be a lot of litter in the garages. Otherwise great experience here

It's not bad but it's not the best. Staff is pretty helpful but the complex itself is super run down and everything really needs an upgrade. I guess it's what you get for the cheapest rent in the area. I do love how much square footage there is which is rare in downtown Oakland.

My resident experience has been good. The Uptown is a nice place to live. It's a bit expensive and security is a bit relaxed at times, but overall it's comfortable.

Good so far, have only been here 2 months. Community office staff are responsive and picking up my packages seem to flow smoothly. I have to get used to noise level, being in the middle of downtown. Otherwise, so far so good.

Upon moving in, my leasing agent, Elise, was awesome in getting me acclimated with the unit, and the amenities in the community The Uptown offers. Living here these past 5 months, I’ve found, it’s just the right amount of quiet in building, with the perfect contrast just outside of the building, with all the surrounding cafes, bars, and theaters. The front desk staff is always friendly and helpful. No need to worry about stolen packages, the front desk stores them away for pickup, as well as an Amazon locker room; the foot patrol security guards, are a welcomed sight in and around the buildings, to help ensure residents feel safe and comfortable.

I have lived for 10 months in this beautiful building and I have found here my perfect place to live. everything is close by, restaurants, theaters, Oakland bart station 300ft , banks, and supermarkets, the place glows at night, is very well-lit 360 degrees, and the cleaning staff inside and out really go out of their way daily to keep the place clean, the pool and spa are beautiful they look new, or I think they are renovated , the gym is complete, the theater room is fun to invite friends over I haven't used it but I've seen families use it and seen them happy , a chef's kitchen where they have some very elegant gatherings. All in all, I think it was the best decision to choose The Uptown as my home... hopefully this message will reach many people interested in renting so they know that inside they will find what they are looking for.

Great location if you don't mind the noise from the club on the street level, the neighbors, and street. Very thin walls that allow for all noise to come in from neighbors to street. The building could use some TLC. The carpet and wallpaper in the corridors have never been changed in the 3 years I've been here and look very dingy and worn out. Management does not really do a good job at maintaining the property as a whole. Neighbors could be considerate or not when it comes to noise. Could use better screening of tenants. The inside of apartments are maintained well. That I do give them credit for. Quick response to unit issues.

I've put in little things now and again: change a bulb in the bathroom, tighten a screw on the balcony door, etc. This time, the kitchen freezer leaked. The first time, they sort of fixed it but the leak came back a month later. When this happened, they replaced my refrigerator. I was surprised that they had a brand-new spare and within less than an hour, they swapped it out. Trevon and Diego are the two staff that I've dealt with and they are both very responsive, within 24 hours most of the time. I'm impressed by how things are maintained and how quickly they respond. Thank you. I appreciate living here and they make it much nicer by keeping things maintained.

The apartments themselves are nice and they’ll lure you in with great deals. But this neighborhood is the psychotically loud - I haven’t had a good night sleep here since I moved in, especially on the weekends. Ear plugs and a white noise machine aren’t enough to mask the sound of people screaming, road shows, music blasting or car windows getting smashed right outside your window. I’ve lived in downtown Oakland for years, but this neighborhood is particularly bad. Save yourself the misery.

Don't move here unless you do not mind disgusting carpets. Dog owners repeatedly allow their dogs to defecate on the carpets. Management has basically refused to clean the carpets. Most people would find this property to be unsafe for children. Pool gates will remain open at times. Pool gates are repeatedly left unlocked. Guards have even blocked the gates from closing. Building doors will remain open, and manage does not seem to care enough to fix them, in fact, the Manager has left building doors open. Management seems to just ignore these situations and many more. After many attempts to get these situations corrected, nothing has changed. Corporate headquarters will not even respond. Move here if you do not mind being ignored by management.

I am a resident here at the Uptown and so far I have had a good experience. Getting a lease here was extremely painful process, but once we got in the doors and our lease it was really great. The space is beautiful and clean. The amenities are great! The pool is clean and well maintained, I love the fact that the Uptown has a 24 hour gym! Hopefully we will be getting some new equipment in soon. Maintenance requests are handled with care here, in the beginning, getting ahold of the staff was difficult but I have definitely seen them step up and attempt to deal with residents in a timely manner. The response time has for sure improved. The neighbors are super kind here as well. They have monthly/semi monthly resident events. The Trivia Night was a big hit last month! I hope they do another one soon. A great location, smack dab in the middle of the hustle and bustle, great nightlife, great restaurants and transportation to get to the nearby groceries like Target or Sprouts grocery.

I got settled in my new job and am looking for a change of scenery. After doing a lot of research, I called and spoke with Natalie. From the get go, she was patient, kind and answered all of my 100 questions! I set up a tour with her and she was just as delightful in person as over the phone. It was like talking to an old friend. She helped me look at spots that were in my budget and gave me advice about the application process. I applied later that afternoon. I hope to hear soon. The apartments are nice and the public areas were nice and tidy. Keeping my fingers crossed I get the unit I'm after!
