Directly across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., Arlington is less a suburb than an extension of the nation’s capital. It’s the home of the Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery, and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, with a number of waterfront parks offering beautiful views across the river to the National Mall.
The community provides a wide range of living options, from apartments, townhomes, and duplexes to condos and houses. A major reason for Arlington’s popularity is that there is so much to do. Washington may be packed with monuments, museums, and other sightseeing landmarks, but Arlington holds the advantage when it comes to the more day-to-day shopping, dining, entertainment, and nightlife.
You’ll have several options for getting around town or into D.C., whether you choose to drive, take the Metro, or ride your bike — Arlington has earned a silver rating from the League of American Bicyclists.

Property Ratings at The View
The building is a tempting 12-ish minute walk to the metro (if you walk fast), although the hike up the hill on the way home can be a bit tiring. The view from the roof is actually fantastic, but without shade, it is difficult to be up there very long in the summer. The kitchen is renovated, with granite and stainless steel, but not much counter space or storage. The parquet wood floor is ok, but the apartment is required to have significant coverage in carpets. The built-in book cases are good, and the wine fridge is a nice addition -- though it sort of just stays at lukewarm temperature. Bedrooms are of a good size and the bathroom is nicely done (though small sink and the window is drafty). The building also has a "gym," though on average most of the equipment is broken (for years). Assessment: I would definitely not rent here. The walls, ceilings, and floors are all paper-thin -- I can hear everyone doing ... everything. The popcorn ceiling is also peeling and falling off in places and was done poorly. The ceiling is bowing, there are cracks in the walls, the building is on a busy flight path to Reagan, and the HVAC system is so loud that it wakes me up at night when it switches on. Getting things fixed can be hit or miss. There is also not much to do on this side of 50. For the price, I think other places offer more amenities and are closer to the metro.
