Property Ratings at The Village at Chandler Crossings
I lived at the Village for the past year and it was the worst run business I've ever seen. Upon move-in there was noticeable damage to the apartment and no cleanliness. the front door having dirty stains and gouges in it, the pile of dirt we swept up, an old pie plate under the stove, one stove top not working, scratch marks in the floor, open insulation under sink, piles of dryer lint behind dryer, and water damage on coffee table and TV stand. The condition was bad the cleaning crew spent a good 45 minutes in the main living area alone. Maintenance and the staff started out nice but over time as more and more things were noticed and needed fixed the less helpful they were. Often times when we called the office it would be ignored and be forwarded to their voice-mail or answering service. The pin on the shower came out and what I though would be a simple fix took over THREE MONTHS to be completed. For a good week I was without a working shower; and for the remaining time it was left half completed despite the numerous requests sent in. My sink also broke around the same time and took two-three weeks to be fixed because they didn't have the parts to fix the faucets. Our apartment was also without air conditioning for a while this summer during 80 and 90 degree weather, that maintenance request took a week to be completed. I don't blame the maintenance person because there is only one for the entire complex which shows how much the company cares about its employees and tenants. Hint: they don't. My last complaint would be the noise levels in the complex, the walls are so thin you can hear your roommates conversations clear as day on the opposite side of the apartment. People walking above you sound like elephants and when music was played in the apartment underneath ours our floors and beds would shake making it hard to study or sleep at night. Not to mention that the outside doors to the building are supposed to be locked at all times were always propped open Safety was a major concern while living here. I ended up moving out early which cost me $500 and a $25 cleaning fee despite the fact that I left the apartment cleaner than I came into it. After moving out maintenance and the village staff would enter the apartment with my roommates still living there at any of the day without notice. Once showing uo as late as 11pm at night. So if anyone is considering this apartment complex I would suggest exhausting all other options first.
There’s a lot of perks living here but it’s a headache if ANYTHING goes wrong. The main issue Is Something is always broken or needs to be replaced. Everything is shined up and looks new but they only replace things when they’re on their last leg, and you’ll consistently have to call maintenance Multiple times and hope they fix it within the week or at all.
Whatever you do DO NOT LIVE HERE!!! Everything is broken and it's impossible to get into contact with maintenence and the leasing office. I could write a whole book about how terrible my experience here has been. It's cheap, but not worth it!!! My roomate has a cat allergy and they randomly moved two cats into our apartment ALSO anytime you call the office they'll tell you that they'll "call you back" and never do. Our heat was broken for months because we couldn't get anyone to come in and fix it. This place is the closest place to hell on earth. (Plus they DO NOT clean any of the rooms, so I hope you like being welcomed by other people's hair in your shower drains and dirty food in the sink) Did I mention that it came infested with fruit flies because they didn't clean the previous tenants dirty food out of the kitchen? Because those took months to get rid of and we had to take care of them ourselves with rolls and rolls of fly tape. This place is seriously disgusting!
The villages had mold in our bathroom and it took them over 2 months to come in and fix it. and kept telling us it was not mold when it clearly was. they also had a promotion going for a 500 dollar gift card and when we asked to make sure we would get a gift card they stated yes. but one year later they now told us that we don't have proof that they ever stated that. also, we were told that there would be spartan net but it is not spartan net. also, the internet doesn't work if you have more than 1 person online at a time so if you plan to have 3 other roommates i don't recommend signing here. also when asked to try and fix the internet problems they tell you to ping the internet and then say nothing is wrong with the service when somthing clearly is.
BEWARE! While the apartment that I rented was alright for the amount of rent, management leaves much to be desired. The thing that was the worst was being overcharged for "damages". A wrinkle in the carpet, which should have only costed between $25-$50, was claimed to cost $100. My roommate claimed that she was charged the same amount for some slight damage to the paint in her room. I advise anyone who wants to move in to document everything!!! Take pictures, videos, and when they ask if the room is alright be sure to claim EVERY FAULT! If there is a scratch somewhere, write it down! You don't want to be charged as I was. When calling the office, don't expect any of your problems to be solved, instead the office workers will write an email to their supervisor which will take over a week for them to address. I have been double charged for the insurance fee multiple months and it took just as long to get the problem solved. There are worse places to live, but just cautious and diligent when documenting everything.

The Village has all that one needs when one is away from home. From great amenities (recreation center, swimming pool, mini theatre) to accessibility of public transport to modern apartments to endless parking spots to friendly staff, everything is just so perfect about this place. Need something? You got it here! Totally RECOMMENDED!
Great staff, always helpful. Love our apartment and the amenities! Awesome location and having the bus routes for campus is a huge plus. Also can’t beat the price compared to so many places in East Lansing, perfect for students!
I’ve left a few reviews for the Village before because I do think people should give this place a chance. The office staff and maintenance are great and always willing to help us out. The price is good and commute to campus is only about 10-15 minutes!
After searching for affordable apartments, I am so happy i decided on the Village at Chandlers Crossing. The apartments are clean, nice and updated. The staff is always willing to help in times of need. The kitchen is amazingly up to date and the layout allows for a really nice flow. The bus comes every 15 minutes so getting to campus is never an issue. I would definitely recommend this place to my people looking for the best band for your buck apartment.
The Villages at Chandler has been my favorite living situation since moving to East Lansing/starting my career at MSU. I’ve lived in the dorms, other apartments, and a house, and I would stay in the Villages 10 times out of 10. They are clean, neat, updated, modern, and homey. I feel comfortable and safe in my one bedroom apartment here. I could stay inside my apartment literally all day, I actually do lol. The staff are so friendly and helpful whenever interacted with, as well as maintenance. I love the Villages!!!!
We have lived here 3 years in 2 different units. Pros -Cheap & spacious -Great parking -Super nice people working in the office -Prompt maintenance -Furnished nicely -Security at night. We have needed security patrol a few times for entry into the building, noise complaints, and when we were concerned our neighbors had been robbed -Location is nice, but I recommend having a car. They have free bus passes, but a car is really beneficial for when you need to grocery shop or something -Free wifi and cable! Each apartment has its own network, so it doesn't even get slow -Office manager is prompt in an emergency. We had a roommate turn violent, and they immediately helped us initiate an emergency move that same day to another unit -Awesome events put on by the office! Lots of free food Cons -While everyone in the office is incredibly kind, we do have a problems. First, it kind of seems like they were all trained differently, so one question can get three different answers. It is a bit frustrating sometimes. A MAJOR issue we have had is with them randomly coming into our apartment. The reasons are usually quarterly checks, or if we have an empty room that is supposed to gain a new tenant, they are making sure it is ready for movein, but they don't let you know when they are coming. They just walk in -Maintenance. Bigger stuff like toilets or doors takes them a VERY long time and they don't clean up after themselves. -Sketchy due to parties and the crime. We had a major theft problem for a while. People break into cars if they are left unlocked, apartments (especially ground floor) have been robbed, and businesses have it too. There are security cameras in the parking lot, but according to the office, they do not work. -The apartments are fine, but they can be really old to where it is just kinda obvious sometimes. They don't seem to be great at cleaning them for move in, so prepare to clean yourself. -Moving out: take pictures and document EVERYTHING. They are notorious for painting walls and recarpeting just for the sake of earning some extra bucks. -Roommate profiles have been completely ignored each and every lease we have had, and not good at informing you when you are getting a rommate. Neutral -Amenities: Quantity>Quality -This is housing for both students and non-students. As long as your conscious and prepared for any of the above issues, it is a pretty darn good deal. We still recommend it.

Honestly, even though it’s not perfect, it’s a pretty great deal for anytime looking for an affordable housing option. It comes with so many amenities on top of cheap rent that the cons are outweighed.

The doors to the buildings are all broken and unlocked. Also they have no cameras. Your vehicle will get vandalized and they won’t even give the you the of day to call you back.

We are currently working with our contractor to have the doors repaired and locked back up. If there are ever any violations, such as vandalism, we will do what we can do stop this, such as posting notices and warnings. If you have any questions. please email me at cjacobs@peakcampus.com
This place is a dump. Walls are paper thin to the point you will hear everything above you or below you. Service requests are not completed correctly the first time or in a timely manner. Management does not enforce the lease. Building consistently has had noise and marijuana issues. Grounds are not kept up well during winter. The bedrooms are cold. Management doesn't care about the place, only the money. You can live in much better places. Look at the reviews on other sites.

Don't like here! I will pay you not to. My roommates and I don't smoke and we got a smoking violation notice. There is a bunch of other terrible things about this list but i cant spend a month writing a bad review.

Good evening, my name is Carly and I am the Leasing Manager here at The Village. I would like the opportunity to explain why the smoking violations were posted, as well as hear all of your concerns regarding your stay here at The Village. Please email me at cjacobs@peakcampus.com or call me at (517)721-7773
The worst place to live in east lansing. I thought my issues were done when I moved out, but I am now getting charges for things that were not my or my roommates fault. The staff ignores complaints, everything was broken and dirty upon move in, and there was food in the couch crevices. Paint was chipped on every wall/cupboard, stains everywhere, just awful. And then we were charged for those things that have been there since we moved in. The relatively inexpensive price (compared to being closer to downtown EL) is not worth the issues you get with living here. The only positive thing I have to say is that maintenance is nice and helpful. *update: finally removed the charges that were not my fault after I demanded to see a copy of my move in condition form. The point of this form is to tell them what is wrong with the apartment in the first place so residents don’t get charged when they move out for those things that are not their fault. What is the point of this form if they are not even going to bother looking at it when charging their residents for damages? just so happy to finally be done with this place forever.

If there is work to be done in your apartment they dont let you know. If someone has moved in to your apartment they dont tell you. Come to find out someone has lived in my apartment all summer and no one took the time to inform the current tenants. We were told move in day was August 24th, NOPE.

The buildings were built on the tightest budget - they fall apart before your very eyes. I'm currently moving out and being charged for a tv that I never got and for carpet replacement. I stated the carpet was gross and stained upon move in but they lost my move in checklist. The staff consists of some of the most incompetent people I have had the displeasure of dealing with. Save yourself the headaches and high blood pressure and go down the road to somewhere else. Anywhere else.

This place has caused problems for me and my roommates since the first day we moved in a year ago. When we were able to get into our apartment on move in day, the place had clearly not been cleaned by the previous residents and certainly not the staff themselves. From there we had to wait moths to revive gift cards we were promised on move in as well as fobs for the building for the building to be secure (meaning it was unlocked that entire time so anyone and their brother could just walk into our building). The office staff however is very friendly but are kept as out of the loop as the residents. The pool that is advertised everywhere for the Village has been under maintenance since May and we were never told that there would be a down period for it, which we pay for every month through our rent. Management is constantly trying to squeeze a fee onto anything they can, and we have been charged with multiple "lease violations" which we never committed. My advice for anyone looking to live here-- DON'T. It really isn't worth it.

By far THE WORST PLACE I HAVE LIVED IN. The people have no idea what they are talking about in the leasing office, the only way to get direct contact to someone who actually knows what they are talking about is via email, and I NEVER got a response in a timely manner. Plus, they like to charge you for anything and EVERYTHING they can charge you on, whether its a bin outside on the baloney because it doesn't fit the criteria of "outdoor furniture". I just think it is completely ridiculous how much extra charges come out of this place considering that MOST students are COLLEGE students. I WILL NEVER RETURN OR WOULD RECOMMEND THIS DOWNGRADED CHEAP APARTMENT COMPLEX. Did I mention the smell of trash throughout the hallways, and how half of the apartment front entrance doors are opened?

This is the place that'll charge you $50 for being 2 days late on rent and will go through the trash outside and charge you $25 per bag yet will take over 3 months to give you your deposit back because of "technical difficulties". When you call to speak with the manager they are always "busy" and when you do get ahold of them they don't know the answers. They never once sent out an email letting people know that their checks would be late and when you leave messages with them, they never respond. In a nutshell you get what you paid for unless you resign like I did, then you pay $100 more a month on rent because they really don't care about their residents

We apologize you experienced poor service from our office. If you are still experiencing issues, please reach out to us via e-mail at thevillage@peakcampus.com. Thank you.
Roommates are pestering. I feel the rooming could be better approached as far as habits and common traits or meeting before moving in with strangers. My prob is that I dont try to change ppl but my roomies have a problem with everything. I feel if you are a picky individual, seeking roommates shouldnt bwe on your agenda. Other than that. Management is nice. The office is extremely friendly. I do feel like they should work with financing a lil more. Making the complex more convienent for the tenants.

I've lived in a 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom apartment at The Village for 2 years now and I have little to no complaints. The apartment has beautiful wood floors, a spacious living area, and the bedrooms are cozy as can be. When we need something fixed, which isn't very often, maintenance is at our apartment that day. There are numerous different restaurants near the complex and Meijer is about 5 minutes away. There is a large pool, hot tub, and a gym. All of this is free and within walking distance. I've been so pleased with my experience and would highly recommend living here!
This is actually a pretty good place to live if you want to be close to the MSU campus. The community also has a close bus route for you to get to meijers or Krogers the routes also lead to MSU campus and grand river which is full of tasty places to eat. The staff is helpful and maintenance is pretty good with responding. The only downer would be the thin walls between one building and the next. The prices are very reasonable too. I recommend this apartment community to all.
