Property Ratings at The Village at Commonwealth
We have lived here for 3 years. We loved it at first- beautiful apartment and many amenities and community events. However, it seems like the staff focus more on events than maintaining the quality of living for residents. We have had problems with pests and mold that have not been addressed. Office staff is not responsive. The rent has increased $1000 in 3 years. It is not worth it.
Living at the Village at Commonwealth has been a disappointing and disgusting experience. 1) Moved into a filthy unit. 2) Had an extensive problem with cockroaches. 3) Other physical issues with the unit were untreated or treated improperly, requiring that I initiate multiple follow-ups or implement DIY solutions. These included but were not limited to - multiple leaks and holes in cabinetry. 4) Was misled on lease conditions
The apartment complex decided to boot my car even though I live here and have a parking pass. I missed work because of this and had to pay $140 (no warning, just boot). The employee at the front desk, when I first moved in, lied to me and told me there's never issues with parking (there's always issues with parking fyi, look at the other reviews). The office manager hid behind her employee when I asked to schedule a meeting, and her employee told me I could not schedule one through her.
We had problems with roaches and gnats right when we moved in, it took six weeks of calling for the staff to follow up on our requests. There were big cracks in the walls and ceilings, they never followed up to confirm there weren't structural issues. The NWR Cares number, they ask you to call for issues, is never answered, there’s no waiting on hold, you leave a message and they never got back to us. We needed to break our lease early, their "policy" is 3 month rent penalty and 60 days notice (5 month penalty). If there's any chance you may need to terminate early, don't rent here.
This review is specifically for the wonderful Concierge Team! Aaron, Stanley, Anllelo and Evan are always so helpful! I’m probably the only resident they see just about every day when it comes to packages! Their service has made my life so much easier as I run an online side business that requires a lot of shipping and also personally prefer to order most necessities these days for myself. Every time I show up, I’m greeted with a smile! I feel spoiled to have this service and team available to me at the Village. ????
Living here last year with the previous management was a great experience. I loved this "luxury" complex at the time, despite the fact that when we moved in, it wasn't cleaned very well at all and there was a visible dip in the floor. There were some food stains on the kitchen cabinets, but it wasn't worth making a fuss about at the time. The place did have ROACHES, which I saw all over the building and inside the hallways. I called the office about it and they sent someone to spray the building but it had no effect. Because of this, I couldn't wait to move out. The dog park is awful for the price you pay here. Most apartment dog parks have turf for the dogs to run around, this one is straight up dirt. Only took my dog twice because I don't have time to bathe her everyday. Management changed somewhere along the way and they were awful to work with upon moving out. It baffles me why a place with a waitlist for their apartments would require a 60 day notification to move out, especially when the previous apartments that I have lived in in CLT only require a 30 day notice. Upon moving out, we weren't given our deposit back and were charged for things that did not apply to us, such as leaving things in the apartment. I know for a FACT I left nothing in the apartment because it was a very exhausting experience to make sure everything was out. We tried SEVERAL times to get in contact with a manager to dispute this and were told over and over again that the manager would call us back. That never happened. Ginette was utterly useless and I believe she intentionally ignored us. I ended up paying the fee just so I could be done with this trash apartment. All in all, the staff here lacks integrity and will take any dime they can from you. The place is dirty, unless you get a Phase II apartment, which is a recent build, but ridiculously expensive. I enjoyed walking to Plaza Midwood and all of the amenities that were offered, but it wasn't worth it. Until this place improves, there are better places to live in Charlotte.
I am extremely disappointed with the management/front office staff. I’ve been living here since August of 2020 & the original staff was amazing. After my tour, I was ready to sign up that day. The concierge and maintenance is amazing. No complaints there and always friendly. Not sure what has happened as of late but the office is terrible. I can never get in touch with anyone by email. When I go to the office I’m met with some lady who has the WORST attitude and is not helpful at all. They never reply back to emails. On the phone I continue to get different responses. I’ve been trying to get lease break options since April as I’ve purchased a home & no longer living there - but still paying rent. According to their staff it’s against corporate policy to offer any lease break or transfer options. Everyone that I have consulted with on this has said that is a lie & there always ways (sometimes with a fee) to get out of your lease. As of two to three days ago I emailed them to put in my 60 day notice so that they are able to advertise this apartment for availability and nothing, no reply. I had someone apply as a “roommate” which they said was my only option, they charged $100 to apply - only to deny her (they gave her a regular application instead of the occupancy app) and then the next day send her log in information to MY PORTAL as if she had been approved. I have all of the evidence. I called and they said she shouldn’t have received that. Now she has access to my personal lease information and payment info from a mistake that YOU made and nobody is doing anything about it. I am sick of dealing with this. I have no choice but to seek legal counsel regarding this. My lease is ending Nov 2021 and I refuse to continue to fight with this office until then.
Great physical apartment, beyond terrible customer service. This is the typical corporate apartment complex that doesn't care about their current tenured residents, only new. I have lived in Village going on 6 years. It's a great apartment in the sense that it has good amenities, it's in Plaza and the phase 1 apartments are a good size. You cannot get ahold of anyone in the leasing office. They do not post their email addresses on the website or internal portal- you have to email a general inbox. After 4 follow up's I went into the office and asked to speak with the manager. She was OOO for a week. I confirmed that I was emailing the correct email address, which I was but "admittedly, emails tend to get lost". I explained that I was hoping to sign my lease renewal for yet another year. They have increased my rent every single year and I was asking if there was any consideration in keeping the renewal rate unchanged for this year. The guy in the office responds "this is the question we get the most and the answer is consistently no". Well obviously everyone wants their rent to stay the same, but there was no "let me run that by my manager/corporate/whoever", just "yea we get that question a lot". I asked if there was a leasing manager I could speak with and he responds "Why? Are you looking for a different answer?". A current resident's lease is expiring and they are moving in with me. To get them added to my lease (now that theirs is ending) and able to keep the amenities access and get their key fob updated to my apartment (a flip of a button), they have to re-apply and pay an additional $100. This also furthers the point that they do not care about current residents. If you move here, just keep in mind that once you are a resident, good luck with the staff. The Concierge is great, the maintenance staff is great. The issue is with the leasing staff. Also, make sure you move into phase 1. They built phase 2 so quickly that the quality is abysmal. The floorboards don't stay down, the doorknobs constantly break, there are no screens in the windows (and yes they open all the way), you don't know whether your apartment has a balcony or not until you move in, etc.
I was given all the right answers when touring, so I applied that same day. Once they had my money, everything changed. I got the runaround multiple times and from different people. Now I am being told I cannot get my application fee refunded even though the only reason I applied was because of the information I was given, which turned out to be a lie. The experience has been awful, and the Leasing manager should not be in a management position. They were extremely rude and argumentative and did not have one ounce of empathy. I have contacted the management company Northwood Ravin and have not heard anything back from anyone there either. So, highly recommend you take your hard earned money elsewhere.
The apartments here look nice largely because there’s carpeting only in the bedrooms, but the fake wood flooring everywhere else means that unless you live on a top floor get ready for living with lots of noise. In my case I feel like I live beneath a bowling alley - there’s the sound of heavy things dropping and things being moved around - every single day. The real problem is management won’t do anything about it unless security can hear the noises from the offending apartment’s front door. Really? Some of the noises, like heavy objects being suddenly dropped on a floor, can stop by the time security has a chance to check although they can resume a few minutes after security leaves. In any case, everything can’t be heard from a front door. Management also has a policy that no matter what, they won’t tell a tenant what they can and can’t do in their apartment unless it’s after the “quiet” hours that start at 10 p.m. Under this policy I’ve had to have someone from security come into MY apartment after 10 p.m. to make sure they could hear the noise that goes on overhead all day. They won’t make a simple phone call or send an email to the offenders or anything - it’s all about door listening. I had planned to live here indefinitely when I moved in almost a year ago and sank a lot of money into furnishing my apartment but I will not be renewing my lease. I can’t spend my time trying to prove noises to these people. Why are they going out of their way to protect horrible tenants to turn off someone who’s respectful or their neighbors and in addition pays their rent ahead of time each month? I’m getting out of here - can’t wait - and buying a house.
I love this place! A really cool crossfit style gym, a coffee bar with free coffee for residents (like actually made by a barista), lots of workspace for working remotely, and walking distance to Plaza Midwood. So far everyone has been helpful and responsive. Mark and Daniel especially were really helpful in answering questions even when I called multiple times and kept asking.
This place is great, I've lived here for a month and the leasing staff is still very helpful (especially Mark!). I really love the free espresso from their barista bar, and having Veterans park next door is really great for my dog!
I wanted my mother to have a nice place to stay as she sold her long-time home, and The Village at Commonwealth was the easiest choice. Mark showed us the most amazing amenities that really felt like a small village all in one community. Recommended for anyone of any age or lifestyle as there seems to be something for everyone!
I toured with Mark during a whirlwind weekend of tours for my move from the mid-west to Charlotte. Mark was amazing, and the property (The Village at Commonwealth) was really incredible, like nothing I saw all weekend. I couldn't keep track of the amenities- they have a cross-fit gym(!), a coffee bar with an actual barista (free for residents!), and about 5 lounge spaces. Working from home will likely be so easy here (there were also several private conference rooms). 5 stars!
I was trying to decide between renting a house or an apartment to expand my office space for working from home. The amenities make it easy to work from home or hangout with friends/family - they even have free barista-made coffee! It's also walking distance to Plaza Midwood. The team is great, Mark was a huge help!
I was really blown away by the unique offerings at Commonwealth. The amenities are bigger with more spaces to go than anywhere else, and the staff is great. Mark in the leasing office is the best. Recommended!
Once you sign your lease, the staff becomes nearly impossible to reach. I had an issue with my apartment and it took over a week to fix and I did not receive updates and when I reached out it took them forever to get back on anything. If you like to hear, "sorry these things happen" and get ignored, this is the place for you.
I can not believe how amazing this place is!! One of my friends recommended living at the village at commonwealth (she is a current resident there) and has been raving about it due to its prime location in Plaza Midwood and all of the amenities that they offer. The customer service was by far one of the most impressive things about this place (aside from how beautiful all the apartments are). Alexis was SO HELPFUL and I’m really happy that she was so willing to take the time to review potential options with me based on what was most important to me between the various models this place offers. Alexis made sure to review all the options that fit with what I was asking for and she was incredibly patient with all of my questions. Brooke and Meghan were also incredibly helpful and very knowledgeable about the property. Their team works hard to make sure each resident is completely satisfied with everything about this place. Brooke, Alexis and Meghan have really gone above and beyond to make sure that this apartment complex is the best in the area. Also, can’t forget about Don who works at the concierge desk - he is so kind and always brightens my day and he even helped me carry several of my packages to my car so that I wouldn’t have to make 2 trips - what a guy! Residents here are all super friendly and I’ve had many opportunities to make friends at the pools and I’m looking forward to attending many of the upcoming events they have! You won’t regret living here!
First of all this is in ZERO way a reflection of the staff, concierge or maintenance staff. In fact, they're amazing and responsive. We've had some major maintenance hiccups with our apartment and they're massively responsive and problems get resolved quickly. The amenities are incredible and even with the hiccups the apartments are gorgeous. What I am reducing my review for, is the constant complaints we have had to file regarding noise - noise from neighbors having wild parties and noise from the speaker wars on the pool deck. We joke that this place should be called the College at Commonwealth. The staff does not yet have a hold on pool noise or parties and they do not yet have a hold on non residents coming in and using the amenities. Again, they're quick to respond but the general vibe of the Village is that of a college campus that is sometimes out of control especially when you have a handful of residents inviting their 10 closest friends to the pool. For now, concierge is stretched as there are few of them and their role is hefty. Management did tell us that they have a plan in place to take care of the amenities situation but we haven't seen proactive movement yet - it's all been reactive. So consider that if you do move here you may enjoy it if you love the parties and don't mind noise most of Friday, all of Saturday and Sunday and sometimes Mondays and Thursdays. If you're looking for peaceful, I do not recommend being near a pool or near grills....and also do not recommend the volleyball court/beer garden side either.
I moved in a few days ago and I feel like I’m At a luxury resort. The village at commonwealth is absolutely beautiful. The apartments are very spacious and well designed. The amenities are amazing. I got to experience my first food truck Friday and it was delicious. Ask for Brooke and she will take care of whatever you need and she will get you exactly what you are looking for.
LEASE WITH BROOKE! If you want to experience great customer service, unmatched attention to detail, and someone who actually cares about your needs, versus just “leasing” you an apartment...ask for Brooke, the Property Manager when you visit! The property is spotless and neat! Additionally, everyone greeted us with enthusiasm upon entering. Which is a plus for us! You won’t be disappointed! Great job, Commonwealth!
