Property Ratings at The Village at Gray's Lake Apartments
Located near Grays lake, literally across the street from the trail, this apartment i was extremely fair priced with all amenities included. The apartment manager Twilla was amazing. Very helpful and responsive, maintained as well. Overall good place to live for cheap.
You put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig. Doors are never secure even after complaining to management. When you try to bring up a simple issue like why don't we have heat. The property manager will be snarky. The heat sucks. The AC sucks. The internet is okay. The manager is a snarky delight.
There is constant construction and road noise. The building has mold and roach problems. Expect damage to your car. Internet is poor. Many with aggressive breed dogs. There are known thefts from the package room and laundry room. The building smells of cigarettes and marijuana a lot. Overpriced. Being close to Gray's Lake is the only positive.
Prime location (walking distance to Gray's Lake). Pet friendly and well kept yard grounds with poop stations at every entrance. Management and maintenance keeps things in order with quick turn around times if any issues occur. Fitness room, community room with pool table and shuffle board available for residents/families to use. Online portal is user friendly as well which makes things convenient. We also have an elevator ?? which I'm grateful for, living on the 4th floor!! Lol...I do need to make a special shout out to our new Apartment Manager Keisha cuz she went above and beyond to grill for us tenants these past couple months!! And let me tell you her street Taco's, Spanish rice and hosting skills was bomb!!
I originally moved in here expecting to be here 3 months, I have now been here over a year. There are so many great things about being here. First I love the all inclusive of rent and utilities. One of my favorite things is how the manager tries to do so many things to build community between residents. He frequently has fun get togethers in the commons area such as wine and cheese one evening, he has holiday get togethers or fun craft things that residents can participate in. He does fun contests for example for Halloween he is doing a door decoration contest, he never forgets our fur babies and is doing a pet costume contest also. Zach is also always available, his door is always open for any questions or concerns anyone may have, and is always very proactive in getting things done if there is a concern or question. One of my favorite things that he does is to schedule food trucks in the parking lot, living alone it gives me a chance to try different cuisine that I otherwise probably wouldn't try. Overall I feel like Zach truly cares about his tenants and wants to make them happy. I will probably continue to stay here as long as I am stationed in Des Moines because of the positive attitude and friendliness of management.
I lived here for a year and was one of the first tenants to move in. I knew the building was still in the process of being renovated, but I expected my unit to at least be completed. It was not - when we arrived, the bathroom floor, tub, and vents were filthy and stained. Additionally, the toilet did not work properly. As more people moved into, I realized I had perhaps made a mistake. Our laundry was stolen from the laundry room once; the police showed up multiple times due to a couple having repeated and loud domestic disputes on our floor; trash was left in the hallways and would remain there for weeks at a time... Also of note, Bell Avenue is constantly under construction. This makes leaving the apartment a real pain more often than not. To be fair, the proximity to Gray's Lake is nice. The building manager, Zach, is also very helpful and friendly.
I love living here. Everyone is so nice and it's a relief to have all utilities and internet included in rent. It's my dog's first move and she's happy here too! It's close to everything I need including downtown. Highly recommend!
Everything is terrible. You have no control over anything and they will not upgrade anything to make matters better in the slightest. No parking spaces and we pay money to live here. GET IT FIXED.

there are several things that are incredibly bad about this place. The internet is so slow that it'll buffer netflix. Like what...? it might be like 5mbps on a good day. the laundry is shared and is truly poorly managed. i've seen clothes left for a whole week and it'll begin to smell bad. parking is awful, they legit let anyone park here and get a pass. the leases states only 2 per apartment and i know for a fact this is not true. why are they handing these passes out like candy to people who dont even live there? management does not care and it is so overpriced when you can get more for less in the suburbs. management also emails and texts nearly everyday, like i just want to live in peace, stop bothering residents. on to the next and truly will not miss this dump.
