Johnson City is a picturesque community perched on the edge of Cherokee National Forest, near the northeastern corner of Tennessee. The community is known around the region for its thriving medical sector as well as East Tennessee State University, whose Johnson City campus serves around 15,000 students and employs hundreds of locals as faculty and staff members. Johnson City also earns top marks for livability, with countless regional and national publications naming it one of the best places to live in the United States—much of this praise can be traced back to the beautiful natural scenery, the cozy small-town environment, and the extremely affordable cost of living.

Property Ratings at The Village at Tweetsie Trail
This apartment complex is not pretty to look at. I is in definite need of some repairs to the building and the busted parking lot alike. The rent though is fairly low. There is no washer/ dryer hook up or on site laundry mat. However, there is an affordable laundry mat five minutes down the road. The interior of the apartments is well maintained with only a few signs of wear. They are very pet friendly, and children friendly. The area is far enough off the main road that there is a nice secluded feeling but has the convenience of a two cities only a few minutes away. It is a nice place for people who are starting over or just starting out.
We thought these apartments were a blessing in disguise; we have two pets, so when they said we could have them in the apartment we were ecstatic. When we moved in, we were notified of some small issues that we were told would be taken care of shortly, but we continue to find problems even six months later. The landlord has not updated any of these apartments, and I highly doubt that if a building inspector came in they would be cleared for habitability. We have problems with lights flickering on and off at random, an outdated and dangerous heating system, poor insulation, a door that doesn't fit the front door frame, carpet that has been urinated on by previous tenants' pets (we were told we could remove this, but that was the last we heard of it), floors that are sinking and swelling from water damage... My husband had to replace ALL the outlets when we moved in; one was catching fire, and after he found that it had been corroding and fell apart in his hands, he replaced every single one. We have a hole in the roof that was allowing water to drip into our ceiling right on top of a light fixture! Yet the landlord has not approved a permanent fix; the maintenance guy has a temporary patch, but he's not allowed to do anything more permanent because the landlord doesn't want to spend the money. This complex is NOT a place you want to be. We are actively looking for somewhere else to go, but because of our income and other factors, we are pretty much stuck here unless there's some kind of miracle. Unless you just absolutely cannot help it, or you don't mind putting up with terrible neighbors and a landlord who doesn't like to spend a dime on repairs, do NOT apply for an apartment here.
