Property Ratings at The Village at Wethersfield
They make the tenant split the water bill since they do not have separate meters. (Which last I knew was not even legal in the state of Connecticut.) The water bill is OUTRAGEOUSLY high and there is a $5 monthly bill proceeding fee on top of it just for getting a bill . You’ll also never see the actual water bill they get from the town and only get to see the “equal split” that you owe. (Definitely not legal or allowed in CT) I pay 2-3x more for water utilities each month for my 1 bedroom than most people I know pay for 3 bedroom houses here in CT. My neighbor has three people living in a 1 bedroom who waste water all day meanwhile, I take maybe one 5 minute shower a day and I live alone. Can you tell me how this is fair at all? Stay away from the property until they learn to manage some of these utilities and fees instead of trying to pass them down to the tenant who’s already overpaying for rent. 1

There have been more than 5+ car break-ins since I moved in over a year ago & the company will do NOTHING to help you out. They just want your money & do not care about you or your safety,

I stayed at Village at Wethersfield for 1 year. Just a little insight into the lease: if you are leasing an apartment for 12 months, be prepared to pay for 13 months because when you vacate the apartment, they will overcharge for routine repairs and wear-and-tear, which other management companies wouldn't. Moreover, they have a pattern of doing this. I know quite a few friends who had similar experiences with them. Then I read the reviews online. It is their common practice to charge a hefty amount as 'miscellaneous charges,' which essentially amounts to an additional month's rent. Therefore, if you are leasing with them, be prepared to pay an additional month’s rent! Perhaps the worst aspect is that if you call them to discuss it, they are insulting and may snap.

Staff is not very friendly and accommodating. I would not recommend attempting to rent here, despite the beauty of the community.

I relocated from another state to CT last week. 2 days before our scheduled move-in, we got a call from the apartment manager stating the room wouldn’t be ready for us to move in. After we expressed our displeasure, she called us back to say we can move in. On the day of the move in, we asked a friend to get our keys for us. The office is closed when he gets there so I called the manager and left a voicemail. She calls me back and tells me we haven’t paid our move-in balance so she can’t give out the keys. Meanwhile she had acknowledged receipt of our check 2 weeks earlier via email so I tell her I’ll get back to her and go check the date we received the email from her. I called her back and told her the date she sent the email and then she goes on to ask if she’s the one who sent the email. Anyway, finally she goes to her office and realizes she got the check. Obviously she wasn’t ready for us that day. After a long journey, we finally get to our apartment only to find that the place has not been cleaned! Imagine my horror when I open the dishwasher and the machine washer. Mold and mildew everywhere. The windows have dead flies laying in the sill, there’s bad stench from the fridge, dirty patio screen, old rusty door knobs, rusted bath tub drains. We call her for someone to clean and she cleans only the dishwasher, and just wipes down the window glass and laundry washer saying she can’t do the rest and that maintenance would have to come to see the other stuff. I sent an email to the manager on Tuesday, and I’m yet to hear back from her. You would think in this era of COVID-19, cleaning the apartments would be a priority! Old appliances and dirty cabinets. Don’t be fooled by the outside; the outside looks lovely but the inside is horrible. And the stench right outside my apartment is unbelievable. Seems the dogs pooped and urinated on the carpets. You better see the apartment you are moving in before you move in.

I've lived here for almost a year and, so far, we've enjoyed our stay. Staff is accommodating, prompt, and knowledgeable. Units have nice amenities, including a washer/dryer. Walk-in closet and porch storage were pluses for us. Cabinets are outdated. The laundry door did come unhinged due to a stripped screw hole and just about fell on me when we first moved in. Highly recommend taking the door off as there is more room to do laundry, considering the tight space. Maintenance is very quick to address issues! Our garbage disposal broke on the afternoon of NYE and someone responded within an hour. Noise within the apartments is not an issue. We can hardly hear our next door neighbor, however, we can hear our downstairs neighbor. Apartments facing the Berlin Turnpike hear a lot of traffic! As I sit here and write, I can hear every car pass by. We also have some interesting people who walk along the road at all hours--we occasionally hear yelling, sometimes in the night. Neighborhood is not great. The neighboring shopping center has a lot of sketchy people and stores. Garbage pickers come through (trespass) daily. There have also been a few car break ins and tire thefts recently (Neighbors app) in the area. I've seen security around the premises occasionally but they're between properties. Between units 301-436, there is simply not enough parking! It's unassigned and the layout assumes one space per apartment, though the green area could accommodate more parking in a future project. In many cases, apartments have two residents and two cars. Parking can be difficult to come by after 7pm on a weekday or 5pm on weekends (cars RARELY move), so good luck! We've personally had nights during which we would have to park several buildings away or at the club house. Management does not enforce parking because commercial vehicles (not allowed) continue to be parked daily by residents, despite complaints. So, in addition to one's personal vehicle, they have a second, making parking even more difficult for those with only one car. Another annoying problem is the number of out of state vehicles (2 in 10). While management does take vehicle information, they do not educate residents about the legal need to register their vehicles within 60 days of in-state residency. OVERALL (I appreciate you reading my essay), nice place but be aware of pros and cons of each unit. My reasons for moving include: parking, small unit for needs, and rent that seems to be creeping up.

The Village at Wethersfield is a great place to rent! The location is perfect for accessing Downtown Hartford, and West Hartford Center, as well as being close but not too close to the wealth of shopping centers along the Berlin turnpike and the Silas Deane. The apartments are cozy, comfortable, and well kept. The landscaping always looks beautiful and the pool is great to use during the summer. Dale, the property manager, her leasing consultants, and maintenance crew do a great job making the apartment complex feel more like a home! I highly recommend.

Thank you for the review! We are so happy you enjoy living at The Village at Wethersfield. We hope you will be happy in your apartment for years to come.
I am a resident physician at UConn and my husband is an engineer at Pratt. We were residents at the Village at Wethersfield from 2014-2017 living in a 1 then 2 bedroom unit, until they abruptly decided against renewing our lease. Initially, we were very satisfied with the facility given its location close to all hospitals, amenities (pool, mini gym, ample parking, good snow removal), and price. However, we did note that the apartments were very drafty and at times we had to tape up the windows in the winter to maximize heat retention. The biggest complaint we have with the facility is the manager, Dale. We have had very negative, rude interactions with Dale over our time at the Village that likely culminated in our dismissal from the complex. We would bring issues to Dale's attention about neighbors or noise, but Dale would make condescending remarks and make you feel very unwelcomed in her office. I even complained about this to management because it made me very uncomfortable to go to her office. That being said, the other staff deserve more of a management role. To top it off, when we found out we were not getting a lease renewal, despite a renewal the previous two years, we called Dale to inquire why this was happening. As a physician I have a very busy schedule and don't have to time to find new housing. She unsympathetically said that they have the right to refuse renewal without any explanation and even got a lawyer involved so that I was not allowed to communicate with the complex without sending a letter to the lawyer first. It was quite a traumatic and stressful situation to be put in, especially as my husband and I scrambled to find a new place for my next residency year. The sad part is, we had bonded with our neighbors. Also I was barely ever home to really be a nuisance and I don't have a pet so we didn't contribute to the multiple excrement piles often found on the grass around the facility grounds. Overall it felt like the complex didn't care about me. We were not even allowed to get a new lease at another unit in the apartment complex and were prevented from obtaining any housing at that location. I would caution all resident physicians at UConn and Pratt employees about living at the Village because they seem amicable at the beginning but may refuse to renew your lease at any time.

After viewing the one bedroom sample apartment, I was sold. That apartment was beautiful. So I readily rented a one bedroom apartment thinking I'd get a similar place to the sample. NOT SO!!! The apartment was such a disappointment. There was a football sized bee hive, filthy towels and a bucket on the deck, a big water stain above the TV, no stainless steel anywhere in the apt, non-existent storage...I could go on & on. I feel I should get a free month's rent! What I expected & was promised and what I got are 180 degrees apart. SO DISAPPOINTING! ! ! I wouldn't have rented my current apartment if I had time on my side but that wasn't the case. My house had sold and I needed to get out. The pool is beautiful but I haven't had the opportunity to enjoy it yet. I signed a 10 month lease. Once it's up, I'm out of here. I'd think twice before renting at The Village at Wethersfield.
Only complaint would be can her a lot of noise from the apartment above (walking, banging, yelling, etc.) Cannot hear much between walls and adjacent apartments. Parking is great and maintenance responds quickly to requests. Kitchen is not brand new and slightly run down but to be expected.
The Village at Wethersfield rests at the top of the Berlin Turnpike in the suburban area 7 minutes south of the center of Hartford. The location is perfect for accessing many areas of the state as it is less than 10 minute from both I-91 and I-84, as well as being close but not too close to the wealth of shopping centers along the turnpike and the Silas Deane. The apartments themselves are of good quality with low energy costs, forced-air cooling/heating, cold water included, garbage/recycling included, and a washer/dryer in each apartment. Top floor apartments also have vaulted ceilings with fireplaces. The complex has recreational areas like a tennis court, a dog play area, a swimming pool, and workout room all inclusive to residents. Pets are allowed with pent rent payments. Rent comes out between $1200-$1500 depending on both the size of the apartment (~850 sq.ft. to ~1200 sq.ft) and the length of the lease. Arguably the best apartment in the area for what it offers.
The Village at Wethersfield has been a great place to live. The property is always very quiet; noise from neighbors is rarely heard. Property is also very well taken care of - almost obsessively; lots of friendly maintenance staff - always painting and fixing exterior issues, grounds/landscaping done weekly, pool area and fitness center both very clean and modern. Maintenance responds to and resolves issues in a very timely manor. Office staff are pleasant to work with both when moving in and when questions arise. Easy access to the Berlin Turnpike, just about everything you can imagine is within a 15 minute drive. Also having easy access to 84 east/west without going through Hartford traffic during rush hour is a huge plus. So far it's been a great place to call home.
I moved into The Village at Wethersfield in April and I have been extremely happy with my choice. The apartment is in great condition and maintenance is so helpful and they respond in a timely manner. The pool and dog park are wonderful amenities that I use frequently. The grounds are well maintained and any complaint or issue is resolved quickly and appropriately. The complex is located conveniently to shopping and highway entrances. Great place to live!
These apartments are great. Great closet space and open living room plan plus a fireplace and a balcony. W/D in the unit. The maintenance on the building is outstanding. Perfect place to live with family.
My parents and I have lived here for about 2 1/2 years. Our 2 bedroom apartment is perfect for us - I have my own space, and they have theirs. The location is extremely convenient - near major highways/routes and having a grocery store right next door is awesome. The pool and hot tub are well-maintained and clean, and the exercise room was recently updated with new equipment. Overall, our experience has been very good. The staff has been very responsive to any maintenance issues we have had, which have been mostly minor. There was a major issue with ice damming and leaks this past winter ('14-'15), and we had to be out of the apartment for about a month as a result. The management repaired the apartment fully, replaced the siding, repaired the roof, and is still in the process of making additional improvements to prevent this from happening again. It was a tremendous inconvenience, for sure, but the management was conscientious and did what they could, and this was not a situation unique to this complex - many in our area experienced this problem and some other apartment complexes had it worse.
It's a great place to live. The community is very nice and if you have an issue they are very quick to get the issue resolved. I have been here for 3 year and me and my husband are happy to live here. We are so happy here we are looking into upgrading to a bigger apartment is the complex.
Having moved from western NY, I found CT apartments, including this one, to be a bit expensive. With this apt, you get what you pay for though. The amenities are top notch with a pool, hot tub, sauna, even tennis court! The apartments are very nice (and clean!) with great extras, including central air, a fire place, garbage disposal, even a balcony! The staff are super nice and friendly, and extremely helpful. I've been quite happy with their timely response to maintenance issues. The only real negative for me is not enough storage space. Even the location is great. It's right off the highway, and pretty much everything you could need is on the Berlin Turnpike. All-in-all, a great apartment.
Just moved in about a half month ago and I have no complaints. It is a great place to live and there are a lot of amenities offered to residents such as a sauna, tennis/basketball courts, dog park, and fitness center. The apartment grounds is very well maintained and it is a quiet neighborhood. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Overall this apartment and the complex as a whole is an outstanding place to live. Very nice inside and they keep the grounds/facilities maintained.
compared to most other apartments of this quality The Village at Wethersfield has proven to be a very great value. The staff are very friendly and their hours are great especially since they are open 7 days a week. I take a star off for the slightly slow response for maintenance to start resolving issues but I cannot complain much, as there have not been many issues. Other than that, the village has been a good place to live and the people living here are very nice people and not very loud at all. I would recommend this apartment to a friend if they were moving into the area.
We like everything about our apartment from facilities to service. Best place for families.
this apartment is well managed and maintained. Even though they are short of maintenance stuffs now and may not be able to response your non-emergency request , the leasing officer would love to help you to communicate to maintenance team. And the online system would also help to track your request progression. Although they will charge you a fee for using cc pay the rent, you have the option to use direct deposit pay the bill via online system. The environment of this community is quiet and clean. Very convenience to the highway to drive to downtown Hartford and facilities is around your home with walking distance too.
Great apartment! 2 bedroom, 2 full baths, fireplace, balcony (2nd floor). Nice gym, beautiful pool and hot tub. Maintenance is great, they come quickly for any issues. Awesome to be able to have my dog and cat live there with me.
Awesome apartment complex. Very clean and they maintain everything from the inside hallway walls and rugs to the grass and outdoor facilities. Easy access on and off the highway. Easy access to all store on the pike. They also have a great website where you can pay online and also request service done to your apartment. Website also includes event calander. Over all it's an awesome place. Have been here three years and have no complaints at all.
I just moved into my apartment and it is beautiful. The maintenance on this property is impeccably perfect.
We have lived here for 2 years in a 1 bed 1 bath floorplan. It is very much an open floor plan. We have been able to entertain in 800 sq. ft. very comfortably. The patio is large compared to other complexes and they have few restrictions. The best part is the complex itself. Our dog and us have really enjoyed the walks, grass, trees, and fields. Not only is it a beauiful set-up but it is very dog friendly. Everybody has dogs too! The actual apartment itself is outdated. The appliances are old and nothing is energy efficient. With the increase in pricing, they could really invest in some updates. The small problems we have had in the past were fixed relativy fast. It really was a good apartment.
Great community made even better by the wonderful staff at the Village at Wethersfield. I moved here 3 years ago and found this place while doing research online. After meeting the property Manager, Dale and leasing office staff, I knew it was the right place for me. The property is well maintained and any interior work that is reported is taken care of within 24-hours. The maintenance staff is polite, friendly and hard working. During last year's snow that would not let up, they were out shoveling and plowing snow as early as 7:30am and one night they were still shoveling walkways after 7pm so that we could safely walk into our buildings. The office team is always there for you and treats you like family. Being to the area, they suggested alternative routes for me to get to work and made great restaurant suggestions. The location is central to shopping and restaurants and most importantly, safe! No need to join a gym, there is a great workout room right on the property, as well as a pool and tennis courts. I love living here!
We've lived here a little over a year and absolutely love it! The apartments are beautiful and kept up to date. The complex is gorgeous and is very well up kept. There is a beautiful pool and hot tub, and also a gym inside the club house. There is rarely crowding at either amenity and both are kept very clean. The staff here are amazing too. Every request we've had to make has been handled almost immediately and everyone is more than happy to help. I have absolutely no complaints. Whenever I will need to move, I will definitely have very high standards after leaving here!
If you are looking for a place in the Hartford, CT area which is going to provide you with everything you'll need for a great value, the Village at Wethersfield is it. I found the pricing, while not the lowest (nor the highest), is certainly fair considering the amenities. Parking is never an issue, washer/drier in every unit and a well maintained pool for the summer... what more could I ask for?! I've visited friends at their places and it's always amusing to hear, why didn't I live where you live?
The location is minutes away from Hartford and the Berlin Tpke. The landscaping is great, apartments are well kept, and neighbors are friendly. I live in a two bed room w/ two baths and its more than enough room for my wife and I. They allow gas grills and have washer/dryers in the units, which I find very appealing. This was one of five places I looked at in the area and was by far the best. The only thing I would criticize would be the appliances need updating; they are all functional, but are a little older.
I recently moved into the Village at Wethersfield and love living here already. This apartment complex offers different amenities to make the people who live here more comfortable. It is very close to so many different things so whenever you do need to leave you do not need to travel far.
I have been living here for about 2 months now. I live on the top floor (3rd floor), so some things may only apply to that level, specifically with the noise. The location is excellent. Being practically on the Berlin Turnpike puts you within walking distance of groceries, clothing, and restaurants, or you could simply drive South and have almost every store imaginable no more than 10 minutes away. There is also a quick on-ramp through a U-turn onto US-5/CT-15, which leads to both I-91N/S in less than 5 minutes. The neighborhood is not bad, but it's not perfect. The apartments are located just south of South Hartford and is within walking distance to Goodwin Park. It is not in the middle of the city, but it is not in the middle of nowhere either. I have yet to encounter any issues with the maintenance staff and they have always replaced or fixed anything that was broken or not working properly very quickly. The pool is fine, the tennis courts are good quality, the washer and dryer in the unit are small, but they work, are no smaller than other apartment washer/dryers, and they are yours whenever you need them. The office staff is nice. I haven't encountered any issues with them so far. The hours make it a little difficult to retrieve packages that have been shipped though when I'm coming back from work, so I usually have to wait until the weekend. I have found no issues with noise. In fact, it feels eerily quiet sometimes, though I know that all of the adjacent apartments are occupied. This could be attributed to being on the 3rd floor. The price is okay. You will be spending over $1100 easily for rent alone, which is a significant amount compared to the square footage you might find elsewhere, and I have yet to compare energy bills versus a national average. However, it's manageable and you might be able to talk them down a bit, at least at first. All in all, not a bad place to live. Don't expect perfection, but this is arguably a lot better than what other apartments are like. If you want perfect, that's what houses are for, not apartments. Rate: 82/100
If you are looking to live at The Village at Wethersfield, I would strongly recommend that you look elsewhere. The apartments may look nice from the outside as well as when you take a tour of them with the secretaries, but I can assure you that they're not as nice as they seem. If you live below another apartment, the ceilings will crack and creek, as you can hear every move the upstairs tenant makes. The walls are very thin - sounds from neighbors/outside can be heard at all hours of the day. The heating/cooling system is extremely inefficient. The windows have cracks in the sills which allow cool air to escape in the summer, and cold air to enter in the winter. I've had to buy plastic insulation to place over the windows to keep the cold air out during the winter months and it still doesn't help. The baseboards of the walls as well as the holes where power outlets and light switches are placed will leak air as well causing more inefficiencies with the heating/cooling system. Overall, it's a very poorly constructed complex. The maintenance staff is poorly run as well. I've had the same problems come up repeatedly, and the problem is never fully fixed (hence the reason why the problems continue to come up). The storage space that is given to you is a 3'x6'x8' cubby (very small). The landscaping is nothing special, and the plowing awful. The roads around the complex are never fully cleared after a snow storm; they're plowed once or twice, and then left as packed powder until warmer temperatures melt the snow. I have been living here for less than a year, and I am definitely unsatisfied with the product I’m getting for the money that I pay to live here. The location of this complex isn't as great as the management makes it sound. The complex is basically located at the south end of Hartford which isn't a very safe place. There have been numerous robberies in different apartments around the complex - one as recent as November 2013. There have also been vehicles that have been broken into during the night in the Stop n' Shop plaza adjacent to the complex. It is unsafe to sleep with the windows open during the warmer months, because the fear of a break in. However, there are 2 good things about this complex: 1. the basketball courts, 2. the fire place. You are not allowed to have a grill on the deck, and COX is the only cable/internet provider available.
I visted the property twice. I was very impressed with the property overall. The grounds were just what I was looking for. As a matter of fact it had everything I was looking for. However, the bedrooms were a little too small for my current furniture and I cannot afford to replace it at this time. I was interested in the two bed, but I would have taken a three bedroom if I could have afforded it because of how much I loved the property.
