Property Ratings at The Village
I am giving 1 star because it is NOISY, carrying historical AC and heater, having bugs issue, fraud issue as well as bad management. Noisy: The wall is super thin -- there ware even several times I heard neighbor's phone vibrating when I thought it was mine. The house nearby holds lots of parties which could be super loud. Moreover, the ac is so loud that I have to turn it off when I have friends in my apartment to be able to have a conversation. Bad AC and heater: For the ac, it is functionally working but it is only installed in the living room which means you probably will need to keep your bedroom door open when you are asleep. I found the heater is hard to use -- it can only be on or off even though it has a spinning controller. During the winter, I had to turn it off frequently because it was too hot and open it when it was too cold. However in both situations, it takes about 3 hours to heat up or cool down because of it is basically just a long, thin heated iron stick. Bugs: It is a historical building and it has gaps between its wall and the floor which constantly have bugs in and out. It is not that frequently but as a person who scared of bugs, I felt gross and annoying. Fraud Issues: There are people knocking at the door for charity or power fraud. Bad Management: First thing is that once I reported that someone in the building is smoking and the smoke went into my apartment through the fan. The management told me they cannot do anything other than sending out those spam-like notification email before I figure out which unit is smoking myself. The second thing is that they tend not to return the full deposit. I got cleaning fee deducted from my deposit but when I sent them the move-out video to argue about the fee-charging, it took them a whole month to reach out to the 'management' and have not got back to me until TODAY.
Even though these apartments are newly renovated as of 2018, the walls and ceilings/floors are really thin. This means I could hear my neighbor next to me being loud when I was trying to go to bed and my neighbor above me basically all day whenever they stood up or walked around. It’s very annoying. The apartment looks cute and has nice stuff in it but the annoying noises make it not worth the price of rent.
