The City of Huntington remains a center for arts and culture in the Mountain State. In its early days, the Ohio River provided the lifeblood to the city as steamships carrying coal and timber from the surrounding peaks used Huntington as a port. Today, it thrives as a lively city and has preserved many historic buildings by converting them into eclectic shops and restaurants. Ritter Park Historic District contains more than 70 historic homes, most exemplifying notable 20th century architecture.
Additionally, Huntington houses Marshall University which sits in the city’s center. The presence of the campus also contributes heavily to the art scene. The Red Caboose is a highly raved about art gallery in walking distance of Harris Riverfront Park. When large crowds pour into the community for a university football game, visitors and locals enjoy getting around the community by way of the Amtrak railway and Interstate 64.

Property Ratings at The Village on Sixth Avenue | Student Housing
Great amenities, great staff, close to campus, all in all a great community to live in.
I lived in these apartments for one year. During this year, the village office constantly tried to put extra fees and charges onto all of the people that lived in my apartment. However, we had mice that they would do nothing about, they had not cleaned the place professionally in over 5 years, and whenever I finally (and thankfully) moved out, they sent me a nice little $350 damage charge for the filthy carpet. This wouldn't be a big deal if I had actually made the carpets dirty enough to need replaced within the one year that I lived there, but they were actually probably cleaner than when I first moved in since I shampooed them regularly. Do not live here. Ever. I would never recommend this place to even my worst enemy. It is unfortunate I cannot give less than one star.
The workers aren't friendly. They are mostly rude and treat people like garbage. The maintenance people don't do their jobs. My roommates and I were constantly putting in work orders and they never would come to fix our problems. The vents caused mold build up in our bathrooms and literally became unbearable. If you leave a voicemail for a manager they never call back or ask one of the receptionists to ask a manager to call you it never happens. The apartments look way better closer towards the office but when you get towards the back it looks awful. The place is unsafe. The so called security guard that is supposed to watch at night. When I called would never answer. Police were called in quite often during the college year because of people fighting and other activities. I'd get woken up by the police or whatever was going on outside. I felt unsafe and if I could go back I wouldn't have ever lived in the crap hole.
After having a bad experience with my first apartment, I searched long and hard before signing my lease with GreenTree Apartments. The apartments are located right behind Marshall University and are close enough to walk to class (So, yes, you can skip out on that $100 parking pass on campus!). The apartments are also gated which is a really nice security detail given that some areas of Huntington aren't the safest. All of the apartments in the building are one bedroom and although they can be expensive, it is what you would expect for a college town. My favorite feature of the apartment is my giant walk-in closet. Growing up I always had small closets, so it's nice to finally have a big one. The back of the closet has a door that leads to the master bathroom, so there are two entrances to the bathroom. The apartment complex is very small and has a beautiful courtyard. It's close to Historic Pullman Square and Downtown Huntington. I never have trouble finding something to do! If you're looking for apartments near Marshall University, check out GreenTree on 6th Ave!
