Property Ratings at The Villages at Decoverly
We have lived here for over a year and love it! It is alittle older of an apartment but it has been perfect for us. We love how close we are to downtown crown, super dog friendly and a lot of space in our apartment! It is one of the biggest available spaces for apartments that I have seen in this area that won’t break the bank. The leasing team is great and very helpful. Our neighbors are great and we barely hear them.
I live here. I like the location only. However, I do not recommend this place to live. Here are 10 reasons: 1) The gym costs $400 when you sign the lease, but both gym rooms have no proper ventilation, and rooms stink. 2) Water/sewer bill is very expensive. I am being charged $60-$90/ month per one person. 3) The water in apartments is of bad quality and smells. I use a double filtration of water for cooking and drinking. 4) Noise. I often hear loud screeching and screaming or snoring of my neighbors-adults next door. 5) Noise. Here are in front of my windows 9 very loud power generators working 24x7. They are quite noisy. It sounds like heavy metal manufacture. 6) Trash dumpsters are always clogged. It looks like the residents have never gotten the proper explanation on how to use a trash dumpster and containers for recycled cans or cardboard boxes. 7) Here are a lot of scary biting flies in the summertime. The large red itchy spots after bites are not healing quickly. It takes 4-6 weeks to recover. 8) The whole apartment was built from the cheapest materials and appliances. The floor in the kitchen and bathroom is made from thin linoleum squares, and the floor in the balcony is covered by rough unfinished wooden boards. Never go barefoot on the balcony. I had to go to the hospital to remove the splinter from my foot. 9) Noise from the walls (9700 Skyhill Way), especially in the nighttime. It sounds like a ghost knocking into my apartment or somebody is running inside of the walls. I have no idea what it can be. 10) One day I saw a man open my door with his key and enter my apartment. As soon as he saw me, he walked away. I still have no idea why he has a key from my apartment. Who knows how many times he entered my apartment when I was not home? That is enough! I am not going to renew my lease.

My two-bedroom apartment is wonderful, I choose the Begonia floorplan that provides large kitchen space and a ton of windows. I love how much counter space is provided and the natural light that shines through. As far as the leasing staff, they are very helpful and could not be nicer! Finally, the location is fantastic, walking distance to the Rio, Rio Crown, and great walking paths around the area as well. I have lived here for almost a year now and would definitely recommend it!
I have been living in a ground floor apartment for a year now .... anytime there is heavy rains, water flooding outside results in water seepage into the bedroom with carpet/liner damage. This is happened not once or twice .... but three times now! Root cause is never fixed. Bottom line is .... rent these apartments only if it is your last option otherwise you are going to face lot if issues/headaches.
Rented here in the year 2018. The location of this complex is great, the Crown is around the corner, 370/270/ICC access, safe, nice, clean and good upkeep of the place. This complex needs some major renovations, the apartments are really old and all you can hear everything! Every squeak, every door, conversations from the neighbors, I knew the neighbors schedule from above and I am sure they knew our schedule right below (Earplugs work great!). My neighbor in front had problems with the AC/Heat, water coming in etc. I had certain minor issues like the doors and apartment were so over painted that the doors would make a super loud rip sound every time you open a door, cabinets would constantly squeak, shower heads and other stuff would come loose and would have to call it in at times. Parking was an almost silly issue, you would have to pay for the permit (no complain here, not an expensive fee, 5-10$ yearly) but if you invited some over and it was past 8pm, their car was towed ($135 down the drain!). I really think they had a deal with the towing company to keep such strict rules for the area. The area is not in a place that random people would park their cars all the time for convenience, which I found strict towing a silly thing. Plenty of parking space. Now for the tricky pricing, we were offered a low rate for the area and the time of the year (winter move). With that said, we wanted to stay for another year there even with all of the issues presented due to the great location but when it was time to renew the lease, they wanted a 9% increase on the rent! Now, Mont. County has no rent cap nor do they push any controls to landlords but they do recommend a 3.1% yearly average rent increase. When I confronted the leasing agent about it, I was told well that is the increase and if you can't pay it, then leave because we are increasing the rent to the average cost of renting around the area. I had to remind them that they decided to price it that way and that giving someone a 9% rent increase is ridiculous and it is in principle that you should just do the recommended amount by the county. After asking for the manager, they eventually lowered to 5% or something like that. They spoke to me like they were doing me a favor. By that time couple of weeks had gone by and we found another place further up but way bigger for around the 5% increase. Rent here but be aware of what you are getting into, and rent on the top floor! 3 stars for the great location.
I lived in the West Village for a few years and overall it did the job. A few minor gripes, but no major complaints. Pros: +Clean community, safe area, good location +Friendly and prompt maintenance staff Average: -Price was not amazing, but ok -Amenities were decent. The gym needs to have a few machines repaired/replaced. -The managers can come across as a bit abrasive, but they are fair. They helped address a few issues over the years. Cons: -The appliances, floors, and cabinets are due for an upgrade (the East Village is much nicer). They'll need to compete with the newer apartments being built in the area. -Walls/floors aren't super thick, so you'll know when your neighbors are home. -FiOS internet is capped at 50 down/10 up and I had to pay $85/mo for it. Other apartments offer gigabit for the same price. Time for Decoverly to renegotiate their infrastructure with the ISPs.
I moved in a month ago with all the excitement (in summer), the AC stopped working after a week; 6 complaints in 3 weeks, neither the leasing office nor the the maintenance were serious about it; the maintenance team comes-in after 1-2 days of raising each complaint, tells me that it is fixed --- the ac stops working in 2 days again, which means i have to sleep without AC for the next 1-2 days until a maintenance person turns up again -- this is for all the over-priced rent i pay.... For your info , I DONT RECOMMEND THIS COMMUNITY, PLEASE AVOID!!!!
Leased here for a while. All payments on time and did everything by the book but still treated as an outsider at the leasing office. The worst place to move in to..The leasing office is so unprofessional, they are like robots they do not listen to tenants views. So nice before you rent but after that they treat you like they are the boss rather than it being the opposite. The management need to change the whole staff otherwise do not lease,it is so dirty, not maintained to current standards Put it at the bottom of your search list. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE LEASING OFFICE, SERVICES PROMISED ARE NOT OFFERED thanks
I left the apartment in perfect condition. No stains anywhere. And they still kept my deposit and charged me some bogus "extra cleaning fee." Don't deal with this dishonest company.
I lived here for an insufferable 6 years and was a horrible place for me to live! Most important, if you are not a dog owner, BEWARE! I had large loud barking dogs above and below my apt throughout my stay, and management was clearly favoring the dog owners and not helpful for ongoing rampant loud dog barking, claiming they are a "Pet Friendly Community." Further, they were terrible and generally unresponsive when I needed to request customer service and the parking situation was awful! I generally found the Property Manager very challenging to work with and she typically made situations far more difficult. Lastly, I should point out that I was compelled to file Complaints with Montgomery County Housing.
I have had to complain to the owner about the way we have been spoken to and treated by the office manager. The complex is wonderful overall and most of the staff are very friendly. The maintenance team is wonderful. The way the manager interacts with some residents including my husband and I is inappropriate and in most other work environments would not be tolerated. She has screamed at me in front of the entire office when I was trying to put a maintenance request in. I have had issues with management at other apartments before but the office manager here makes them look like saints. After the several interactions that I have had like this I have apologized to her in case I did something to offend her. As the resident/ customer I did not have to do this especially since I am raising complaints over valid issues in the complex. Never once has the office manager apologized for any miscommunication or negative interaction she has had with my family. An apology goes a long way. This one bad apple is going to give this complex a bad taste in current and potential new residents mouths.
The staff made everything so easy. I know I have bugged them with 4 or 5 calls, but they are always so nice. Mitchell is just the greatest. Thank you for making this move an easy one.
I have been a renter all of my adult life. Over a year ago I moved to The Villages at Decoverly. I toured and viewed quite a few floor plans. After much deliberation, I selected a spacious two bedroom & loft. It is the nicest apartment I have ever lived in. It is bright and cheerful.....many windows in each room ! The deciding factor was walking into the vacant apartment and seeing how the sunshine just radiated and shined throughout the entire apartment..... I said, "This is the apartment for me!" The Loft gives the apartment a unique feel.... more cozy and home-like ...and I am happy to call it my "HOME" !
I've lived in this community for several years now and would recommend it to anyone. This is a dog-friendly, yet relatively quiet complex with lots of young families and professionals. There are many amenities like the pool, gym and a resident's lounge you can pay to reserve for private events. Management is professional and connected with residents, you'll get an email whenever a packaged has arrived to the leasing office and can pay bills and request maintenance online. They also host several events throughout the year coinciding with holidays. The maintenance team responds very quickly and tend to fix issues within 24 hours. I barely drive on weekends anymore, the location is in a perfect spot; Walking distance to Crown Farm, Rio and a bunch of other parks and other Town Squares. My only complaints would be how quickly visitor parking fills up and difficulties replacing appliances. As I said in the beginning, I've been in the complex for a while now and it seems management would rather fix my old appliances every few months than outright replace them. Either way, The Villages at Decoverly is a great apartment complex in a safe area with high walkability, I'd recommend it to anyone.
Going into my second year living at the Villages of Decoverly, I was pleased with the property, my apartment, and the staff, however it seems that I'd spoken too soon. Upon going to pay my rent online (which they charge a $2.00 convenience fee for each month) for July, there was only a minimal charge to pay. Thinking that may last month's rent which was paid at the start of my first year had rolled over, I paid the amount due and moved on. Then on the 14th of the month I received a notice posted to my door (which could have easily blown away since out walk up is completely open) stating that because I did not pay my rent, they have filled to take me to court and I would have to pay an $80 late fee. Well that was just NOT okay with me. I immediately called the office (which it happened to be after 6pm, so I was lucky there was still someone still there) to discuss the matter. I noted that I paid the balance due online. The woman proceed to tell me that I should have known how much to pay since my rent is listed within my contract, and when I tried to explain that it was not posted to the online account, she proceeded to tell me that the aren't legally allowed to charge me till the first of the month. First off, how in the past 12 months I've lived there had I not had one problem playing my rent, that each month the total amount due was posted to the account several days, if not a full week before the due date (which is the first of every month). Secondly, the online portal does not allow you to make changes to the amount due. Third, they also typically have three separate "Utilities" charges posted to the account as well, which are not the same from month to month, so therefore I would have never known the full amount due. I was able to convince the woman to refund the $80 late fee, and drop the charges in which they filed against me. Not even a full week later, while talking to some other residents, did I realize that the apartment complex has been skimping on Carbon Monoxide detectors, which they are by law required to supply. I had just assumed that being a pet friendly complex that they had all of the appropriate detectors. I checked my detectors, and neither were fire alarm and carbon monoxide. I called the office to get this resolved and once again received attitude from the office staff, stating that they were not required to provide them. Needless to say I have filled a county complaint and am reconsidering my housing options.
We have been living in our apartment for three years now and are very happy with it. We have a one bedroom loft with 1.5 bathrooms. The community is quiet and very well taken care of. It's lit up nicely at nice and I feel very safe walking around. Any maintenance issues we have had have been fixed quickly and professionally. They have just remodeled the community center and while I have yet to use it, it looks very nice. I love the location as it is very close to the Downtown Crown and my work. :)
The villages at decoverly are nice quiet apartments. They are far from public transit so you almost have to have a car. It was a good first step when I moved to DC but I have to commute into the city every day so they are just too far.
The apartment complex is new. Great facilities that include weight room, cardio room, party room, playground, lap pool and recreation pool. It's quiet and very safe. It's also within 15 minute walk of the new Downtown Crown and Rio.
Great neighborhood and close to downtown Crown (new development). Management and staff provide great service. Maintenance responses are pretty quick. Overall a really nice place to live!!
Walls are thin, Internet can be flaky, parking enforcement needs revising, but these apartments are within walking distance to Crown shopping and restaurants. Dog play area on the property. Pets permitted for some extra fees. Two pools and two fitness rooms. This is the best value around for what you get and where you live.
The Villages of Decoverly is the perfect apartment complex for just about anyone. This community is located on a safe and quiet plot of land just minutes away from I-270, Shady Grove Metro Station, Shady Grove Hospital, The Washingtonian Center, and a number of other nearby shopping centers. The apartments in the new village are absolutely wonderful! I have found management to be responsive and polite.
This area is becoming more popular and is very safe. Apartments are spacious and well maintained. Landscaping is beautiful and the community is very nice as a whole. Pools are lovely. Gym could use more equipment and all equipment could be better maintained/replaced.
This complex is in an amazing up and coming neighborhood! It's walking distance from Downtown Crown and Rio and has easy access to the interstate. Because it's an older complex in the area, you can't beat the price! The staff is so pleasant and easy to work with. If I run into a problem, I've never had an issue maintenance didn't come and fix right away. The complex is pet friendly and accepts all sizes of dogs! It's quiet and very well maintained with all sorts of amenities - from a dog park, to multiple outdoor grills, to swimming pools to a 24 hour fitness center. I love call this place home
each year had to have recharged, they were fast but should be checked when filter changed for summer.
This apartment complex is walking distance from Downtown Crown, which is always a plus. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful as well as the maintenance staff, who responds rather quickly as I have had fire alarms replaced within 24 hours. The pool area is maintained and often clean but never incredibly crowded so there are always chairs available. The complex overall is very "homey" with a good sense of community!
