Property Ratings at The Villages at General Grant
I have lived all over St Louis but I really enjoy this location. It’s easy access to anywhere you need to get to in the St Louis area. The grounds are well-maintained and even though it’s pet friendly (lots of cute dogs) people are really good about cleaning up after their pups. Milo loves the dog park! Also, the office staff are all super friendly and helpful. Especially Dawn, she goes out of her way to look out for the residents.

Hello, and thank you so much for your kind words. We're thrilled to hear about your enjoyable living experience here at The Villages At General Grant. Our dedicated team will always do our best to provide you with 5-star resident care, and we're pleased to hear you enjoy calling The Villages At General Grant your home. Thanks again for sharing your kind words; we appreciate you!
So i am a current resident here and i cannot wait until i get to move away from here. Hands down the worst renting experience i have, not only did they fail to have my apartment ready for move in by my move in date, they decided to wait until the day prior to my move in to inform me of this. So i had to wait another two weeks for my apartment, i had to wait two weeks to move in, the reason my apartment wasnt ready... it didnt have carpet...... IT TOOK TWO WEEKS TO GET CARPET IN THERE!!! And instead of making an amendment to my lease, the manager just reprinted the it. So now i have two copys of my lease. Dont live here people, the location and the facility are decent but the office is full of incompetence. Oct cant get here soon enough!
I chose this place because of the location (it's just down the road from walmart, aldi, Webster university, club fitness, and my favorite thrift stores not to mention super safe area!), the perks (they have a fitness center, sauna, dog parks, and on site laundry spots), and honestly the few people I met at the office legit wanted me to be happy and love my new place. Which I DO! I have met a few neighbors, all so sweet. One told me she has lived here since the 70s when it was built and will probably never leave, which I consider a great thing to hear coming in. So far, it's been two months and maintenance has only had to come once because I didn't have a microwave. Well, they brought me one and I paid $0. And they brought it to me same day. I can see myself here for awhile.
This is the worst place I've ever rented from in the St. Louis area. They will do everything in their power to try and charge you for every tiny thing. Example, after one year of living at the place, I was charged for an entire carpet replacement, when I know for a fact that the issue with the carpet could've been fixed for much cheaper. The building and everything in it is mediocre at best. Basically, it's old and outdated, and not worth the money. There's a constant smell inside the apartment that you cannot get rid of no matter what. Finding parking is impossible if you get home anytime after 7pm. I don't know if it's just me, but all my interactions with staff (except the first time I viewed the apartments) have been awful. I was talked down to as if I didn't have the right to ask questions. Worst customer service as far as apartment leasing goes. My advice is save your time and money because this place is not worth it.
I have lived at the Villages for over three years, and I have had a very positive experience. The property is always clean and well kept, the staff is always friendly and helpful, and my apartment is very spacious. The fitness center and pool was always clean and a fun area to be in. My dog loves their large dog park, and I love the doggy wash station that is right next to it. I have grown very fond of my life here, and I intend to stay for awhile. I would recommend anyone looking for great apartments at reasonable prices to check out the Villages.
I lived here for a year and it was dreadful. I loved the location, but I was consistently given misinformation by employees or flat out not provided information at all. When I brought it to their attention they blamed it on the person not knowing and added that they no longer worked there. They disclosed that their office has a pretty high employee turnover rate as if that would make up for bold faced lies. It's close to a college so they do not care if your experience is poor - they just want your cash. Absolutely terrible and I'm not too hard to please.
Save yourself time and stress, and don't bother looking at these apartments. The grounds are lovely and there is a nice pool, but this does not make up for the TERRIBLE management, unexplained rent increases, and very poor maintenance response. For the most part, the apartments are outdated but comfortable. However, as they are older, maintenance issues do arise and they are very slow to respond and sometimes don't really fix the issue at all. Additionally, the property manager is a very rude and off-putting woman, who will do everything in her power to make you pay more money, but really nothing to address your issues or complaints. The other women in the office seem very pleasant, and I can't blame them for doing their job, but they suffer from poor management. If you want to have a pleasant apartment experience, I strongly advise you rent elsewhere.
I've lived here for 2 years. The location is awesome - centrally located so you're just a short drive from anywhere in the County/City. The complex itself is starting to show it's age, but the property management is doing a pretty good job of staying on top of the major things. The maintenance team is very polite. Unfortunately, they are also somewhat inexperienced in routine repairs. So if you do submit a work order, you can expect two or more visits to get the issue resolved. And, if you submit very many work orders, you definitely notice the office staff's attitude toward you change. They don't actually roll their eyes if you go in, but they might as well, as you get that vibe. The walls are thin, so you get to know your neighbors personal habits very well. And because there isn't a hot water heater for every unit, you can expect some cold showers on occasion. The best thing about this apartment complex has got to be how dog friendly they are. They have 2 dog parks, so the little dogs don't feel overwhelmed by the bigger dogs. And they have a doggy wash station available during the warmer months. There is no weight limit on the dogs either. The pet rent is a bit steep, especially when it's obvious that it's not being used to pay for pet clean up very often. Lots of doggie business is left all over the grounds, and the dog bags are not replenished often enough. All in all, I would recommend this place to friends. And, unless rent goes up as much as it did this year, I'll probably renew my lease.
My husband and I lived at the Villages at General Grant for 2 years. It was our first home together and we will always look back on our time there with fond memories! We had a townhouse which was great- it felt spacious and the bottom level made it feel more like a house and less like an apartment. We have a 75 pound chocolate lab, and it was great to have enough space to play with him. We also enjoyed our patio- nothing spectacular, but it is nice to have a little of your own outdoor space nonetheless. One thing that really stood out to me about the apartment was how nice everyone in the office was. We were always greeted with friendly smiles, and the office staff even knew our dog's name! They have dog treats in the office and are always up for giving some pets, so my pup loved going there :) The dog park was a great addition- my dog got super excited whenever we got close to the entrance! In general the complex was fairly quiet and I liked that there were some families living there in addition to singles/couples. It is not the most scenic location (apartment complex is beautiful, surrounding area not so much) but it is very central and conveniently located. I didn't take advantage of the pool very much, but it is really nice and well-maintained! I would definitely recommend the Villages.
Located near a busy intersection, there are two bus stops very near the property. There is also a strip mall across the street with a pharmacy, multiple food places, etc. and three free-standing restaurants right across the street. There are also some bars in the area. There is an auto repair place within walking distance, so you can walk "home" while your car is being fixed, and walk back to pick it up. My personal unit is about 50 feet from the Quicktrip next door, which is awesome for those times I run out of milk or the kids want a treat. Despite the busyness around it, the building itself is well-insulated and the noise is not bothersome. The units are kept up-to-date cosmetically for the most part, with neutral colors and newer fixtures. Maintenance has a quick turnaround time for any problems that come up, and they are very polite and professional. A new Wal-Mart is opening very soon about two miles down the road, and there is a multitude of other businesses not far away. I love having in-unit storage in the lower part of my townhouse and washer/dryer hookups right outside in the common hall. Closet space is better than the house I just moved from. The complex is in a very safe desirable area and has a huge pool, fitness room (it's got a treadmill, elliptical, weight setup and dry sauna) a dog park, people park with a pavilion you can rent out for personal events, and even a tub outside to wash your dog!!
Lisa and Devin worked so hard for me to be approved for my lease. I'm forever grateful to them! I love my apartment and so does my 100 pound dog! (No weight restrictions here!)
I really love living here. The grounds are incredibly nice and well maintained. Maintenance is responds promptly to work orders and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. There is a variety of floor plans and amenities. And it has a great location that is a short drive from the downtown area.
These are older buildings, but management does a good job of keeping them up, along with adding updated amenities. There is a dog park, bath station, and huge pool.
The most of the staff in the office are nice. The office staff rotate between several properties, so there is no continuity. The new maintenance crew are excellent, much better than when we moved in two years ago. Parking is great, not assigned. Rent has gone up twice, $25 per month each year.
My husband and I have lived here for over a year now. We are in one of the 2 bedroom town home style buildings. The apartment building itself, while older, has been very well maintained. Our carpet was new when we moved in and you receive a free steam cleaning when you renew your lease. The floor plan is quite large for a very reasonable price. We have access to a shared basement with personal washer/drier hookups and a lot of storage space. The complex is huge, with two pretty parks and landscaping within the perimeter. The community is pet friendly, and I have met numerous neighbors walking cats and dogs. The pool is nice, although it can get a little crowded during summertime peak hours. The fitness facility is very small and is only open during business hours as it is attached to several of their smaller apartments. The maintenance staff responds quickly to emergency issues but are somewhat slower for general repairs. However, all of the staff has been friendly. The location is great. We are close enough to the city that we can enjoy the highlights of St. Louis anytime we want. We are close to several major highways/interstates, making it easy to travel on the weekends as well. Overall, we have had a very positive experience with the Villages at General Grant.

I lived in a 1 bedroom apartment for a year here, and I had a very mediocre experience. The price is decent for the area, but the space was smallish. Here's a quick rundown of each area, hopefully it's helpful to other renters. • Kitchens: Small. With no over the range microwave you have only one or maybe two spaces on your countertop with which to work. Gas stove is nice, fridge is run of the mill. Dishwasher was old, nice sink and accent on the faucets though. • Bedrooms: Decently sized, with room for a queen bed and desk. Bad closet space. • Bathroom: Best feature of the apartment. Large with tons of cabinet space, enjoy the full mirror. Never had any plumbing problems. • Maintenance: Quick response time, poor execution. I had to recall the staff on multiple occasions to fix something they deemed wasn't broken. Heaven forbid you have to go through their third party appliance repair as well. • Office Staff: Friendly and prompt, even if not helpful sometimes. The full-timers and more serious ones of the staff were always happy to help and tried to accommodate me. • General: Noise is a problem here. The walls are thin and I often smelled what my neighbors cooked for hours after it was gone and I could hear EVERYTHING my neighbors above me did. This was my biggest problem with this place. The area is clean and well maintained, and I never saw a bug when I was here. My utilities were about $100 a month for electric, trash, water and sewer. Seems very energy efficient, as I'm a pretty wasteful person It's close to a lot of things, and would be great for a student as the drive to Webster is about 5 minutes. You can not pay your rent online without a $25 dollar "convenience" fee, which is a small and petty gripe, but still a very stupid thing. Parking is a pain if you get home past 9pm any night - I'd have to park two or three buildings away sometimes. I also never used my parking pass they gave me because I don't stick things on my windshield - never received a warning or anything, so I know that's just a joke. The fitness center is small and not useful but the pool is very big and would be attractive to someone who frequents their community pool. Overall I'd recommend you put this place on a list to look at, but look for a top level unit if you can. It's one of the few complexes in the area that does not include water sewer trash in the rent, and is a bit more expensive than a lot of other properties. Location is probably the biggest selling point of this place, though.
I moved a one bedroom apartment in May 2013 and so far I really have no complaints. My neighbors are quiet. Every time I have placed a work order it has been fixed very quickly and with no hassle. The people who work in the office are very nice. Laundry facilites are perfectly fine, $1.50 per load to wash or dry. The location is great for my 20-minute commute downtown to work. I do wish the "gym" was larger and had better hours or a code to get in any time, because I would like to work out early in the morning. Other than that though I think it's a great place to live!
This place is terrible don't live here. Loud, the staff has came in several times without notice, they work on your back porch without notice at 830am with drill guns and will charge for every tiny thing possible. I do not recommend living here it has been an absolute awful experience for my girlfriend and I and we are currently looking to move out. Appliances are cheap and keep breaking, had to ask 9 times to get a dishwasher fixed before it worked again and got a noise complaint for watching a movie in my living room. When we moved in we had to get our shower fixed immediately, our garbage disposal didn't work and our AC condensation line was running into out basement. I highly recommend going somewhere else
