Property Ratings at The Villas at Camino Bernardo
I recently moved here and cant wait to leave. Pay attention to the parking. If you live near the front, you're screwed and end up parking at the end of the lot. Plus the spaces are so small that the car mirrors barely touch and you need to squeeze yoyrself out of the car. Walls were painted with strands of hair stuck to it. Issues that need to be fixed take over a week or aren't even addressed. I keep finding ants crawling all over the walls, kitchen counter and cabinets. Originally I was told water and trash are included. However I get a bill and I'm being charged for it and other fees.
We have been a resident at Villas of Rancho Bernardo going 8 years. We like the school district, and had no plans of moving out. Two small kids 4 years old and 10 years old. We have enjoyed our stay here till recently. All of a sudden we had two new neighbors moving in and both smokers: cigarettes and marijuana. Our life has become un-bearable. Neighbors are nice people but that does not help us. One Next door and one Below. Smoking starts at 5.30 am, when everybody enjoys fresh morning air we are breathing fresh smoked cigarettes. And then they smoke till 12 midnight. My 4 year old is severely allergic. We contacted our leasing office right away on September 5th, 2017. Manager said that he will talk to legal counsel and get back, no word. October 21st, 22nd, 23rd, we had a week over a 100F, we were sweating in our apartment. My daughter broke out in rash. On Wednesday, October 25th, 2017 I approached the Manager again and handed him a written request to find a way, because we cannot be expected to breath cigarette smoke in our own home. I told him we understand that we have 4 more month on the lease, but it even when we close doors and windows it comes through the AC because its right next to the neighbors patio. Manager asked us what did we want to do?-Transfer, or move? Transfer did not guarantee that there will be no smokers. So we said we will move. He said ok we will help you "Let me call legal and I will call you back tomorrow". So we start looking for a new place because it unbearable leaving in an apartment that you cannot air out. It takes a week for Manager to call back on November 2nd, to say "Sorry its not against the law to smoke cigarettes and marijuana" so you cannot break the lease. "They can smoke as close to the building as they want, ITS LEGAL". I am not breaking the lease, I am asking to be able to live freely in my home that I am paying for. He says just close your windows and doors. I said it's coming through the AC: No it's not possible! Can't do nothing about that. Really!?
I just moved into these apartments a little over a week ago and I've never been so happy! I have lived at several apartments over my lifetime and these far exceed most of them. Upon looking at a model unit I was told i could have my apartment custom painted, any walls and color of my choice, the first wall free. I have never been offered a custom paint job! So of course my apartments was professionally painted prior to moving in. In addition to this I got brand new carpet! They gave me the choice to have wood floors or carpet, I chose carpet (yes, I'm old school, lol). I've never been given a choice like that. They gave us a new shower, bathtub, new toilets, new windows, new fridge, new kitchen cabinets, and possibly the granite countertops might be new. I'm not sure if some of these things were here before with the last tenants but it seems new. We got tile floors and beautiful granite countertops! Most apartments care more about your money than providing you with nice things. My last apartment was a dump so to come here was a huge change. I got a poolside view apartment which is literally right there and i love looking through my new windows at night. My last apartment had old rotted windows full of mildew so I get excited about these windows lol. They gave us a beautiful fairly new washer and dryer, full size! The washer and dryer at my last place looked about 20 years old, and one finally stopped working right before we moved out. So to come here and get such a beautiful washer and dryer was a real treat! This place is so grand looking as you enter with the tall well kept palm trees and landscaping. The tennis courts are lit up with people actually using it and an AMAZING gym. It has a LOT of machines and even free weights. They provide clean white rolled up towels for us! They have a beautiful large gated dog park. This place is immaculate which surprises me because it's pet friendly. Upon moving in I was given a welcome bag filled with lots of popcorn, cookies, sodas, paper towels, toilet paper, water, and hot chocolate. Who does that!? I could go on and on but my poor hand hurts lol. The office staff is FANTASTIC and the maintenance crew is friendly too. I LOVE it here! A special shout out to all of you at the office and to the maintenance crew for making my experience so great! A big hug to you all. If I could give you ten stars I would. Your happy tenant, Steph!
We just recently renewed our rent here for the 3rd time. I've been very happy with our apartment. The granite countertops, in-unit washer and dryer, nice appliances (including dishwasher). We're downstairs and have gone through three sets of neighbors upstairs. No matter who was up there, only rarely do you hear them (vacuuming, loud music, etc.). Since we moved in, they fenced off an area for a small dog park, which has been awesome. We've never had any major maintenance issues, but even small issues (replace lightbulbs, laundry doors off the tracks) have been taken care of same day (usually within a couple hours). Plenty of guest parking. The cons: Very small parking spaces. Management has messed up something with our lease at each renewal (although they eventually fix it). Back pool can get kind of dirty and cold (front pool is cleaner, but more crowded). Depending on where your unit is, you might get some freeway noise. Overall, we've been happy here. No apartment is perfect, but this one has been fine for us. As long as you don't have to deal with management, there's little to complain about. Unless something dramatic changes, we'll be staying here until we need to move into something larger.
These people think it's ok to vandalize my property! They gave me 4 warnings to move my car in one day and got upset that I didn't call them that day. They put two stickers on my car that are non-removable and told me to remove it with a knife that they didn't care. I explained to them that I have moved the car and I would like them to remove the adhesive that was not being removed. I think for the top management to not care at all was weak and they should be more sensitive about what materials they use on your car. I also had issues with my balcony getting trashed after they clean the roofs. It's was horrible to clean up and wash my furniture. I just think they could do a better job of taking care of their current customers and not just prospects. That's all they care about not the people who actually live in the apartment complex.
Love the area, love my neighbors, not a fan of the staff. They are not professional & refuse to take ownership of mistakes that were made. Basically, told us too bad so sad, without an apology. Too bad, we really wanted to renew here.
If I could give this place negative stars I totally would. I just moved out a month ago and i only had a 4 month lease and I had THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! FIrst of all, If you have a pet this is NOT the place to go. When we moved in, they charged us a regular deposit and a pet deposit which is okay but they never said that it would never be returned to us. When we moved in they did not tell us about the move-out inspection. They did not specify that every little single piece of the apartment would be inspected. Move out inspection came. I spent COUNTLESS HOURS cleaning that place, I even had another person help me and we were cleaning for about 6 hours before the final inspection came that same exact day. The maintenance guy that inspected our place charged us cleaning expenses to dust each little light bulb, to clean the windows from the outside of the apartment, clean the sink of water stains and etc. Things that were all already were there/were dirty when we moved in. I mean cmon. who takes out every single light bulb dusts it and then puts it back!? In addition to this he said the ENTIRE carpet needed to be replaced due to urine stains. My dog HAS NEVER had an accident inside the apartment EVER. and he ripped off the entire carpet(something they did not tell us that they were going to do beforehand) and pointed out urine stains in places where boxes were there/places my dog never stepped foot in like the bedrooms!! I tried to argue with every single person there because they were clearly scamming me. I had 0 furniture living there. Just a mattress a folding table and a chair, and they charged me my entire $850 depost + $210 extra to replace the carpet of the entire apartment. DO NOT. I REPEAT. DO NOT do business with these incompetent people. NEVER NEVER NEVER put yourself through this type of ridiculousness. Hope you all read this review and listen to this. Go to the 4S down the street where pets are allowed and service is better
We have been living here for about 5 months and have been really pleased with the community. Parking is never a problem, not even for guests. The office staff and maintenance team are available, friendly, and helpful. The community is full of families with kids that have a great time playing outside and are safe, which is really nice for an apartment community to be able to let your kids play outside and not have to worry about anything happening to them. Compared to other apartments in the area, these are definitely the most value for your dollar. The pools are heated and clean and never too crowded, even on hot summer days. The fitness center is small and cramped, but it has the essentials if you don't have the time to go out. The neighborhood is great for walking so you don't even need the gym really. My only complaints would be regarding the apartments themselves. They don't allow a lot of natural light in because there are very few windows and that can get a little depressing. Also, there is no hall closet and no linen closet so you have to really get creative with storage. Even the kitchen has very little cabinet space. Other than that, the cabinets and countertops are new and clean. The carpet and flooring are good quality. I just wish I could get some sunlight in my apartment!
