Scio dates back to 1835, but the reason behind the name is a mystery. The early township records were destroyed in a fire, so the reasons the name was chosen remain a mystery. Some believe it is named for the Greek island of Chios -- the town was apparently named shortly after the US established diplomatic relations with Greece after their War of Independence, which ended in 1830. However it was named, Scio is one of the largest towns in the county and is situated west of Ann Arbor. Its location along the Huron River makes Scio a popular destination, offering beautiful riverfront parks.
Apartments in Ann Arbor Scio provide easy access to downtown and the University of Michigan. This neighborhood offers two top-rated school systems -- Ann Arbor and Dexter. Dexter-Huron Metropark, a wooded, 122-acre park, features picnic areas, a playground, ball fields, fishing, and a canoe launch.

Property Ratings at The Villas at Northstar
I've lived in a LOT of apartments... this one is hands down my favorite apartment I've ever lived in. I love my fireplace, I use it every night, and my bill has never been over $100 for gas and electric (I'm in a second floor one bedroom). The bedroom size is AMAZING, and the layout in general is just so comfortable. It feels like home and I highly recommend this apartment for anyone wanting a quiet community (not to mention the amenities available, especially the pool and grill area). I have a large storage unit off my balcony for things like my Christmas tree that take up space, so that is a game changer. It's so comfortable here. 5/5 stars!

Thank you for the wonderful review! We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences living at The Villas at Northstar, and we hope you will be happy here for many years to come.
The apartments here are so nice and private, we really enjoyed having a view of the lake and trees. We moved here after living at a disastrous complex on Packard and we are so much happier. This place has definitely all got the basics covered but it also has a nice new dog park and they added pelotons to the gym. The parking spots are spacious and you get your own covered parking. The newly renovated ones are very modern.

We appreciate your feedback and thank you for making The Villas at Northstar your home! Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you in the future. Have a great day!
We have applied to this apartment and paid a total $450 application fee. However, since we paid the application fee, the local leasing office never answered the phone and no one replied our email. We have tried multiple phone calls and followed-up the emails multiple times, however, it was really HARD to connect the local leasing office. In the end, we decided not to move to this place anymore. HOWEVER, BE REMEMBER, the application fee $450 is non-refundable!!!!!!! I don't know why there are so many excellent reviews for this apartment.

Highly recommend for anyone looking for a nice, affordable place to live. The area is quite and close to all the essentials (Kroger, Gas, Restaurants, Gyms, Hiking trails, etc.). The amenities they offer are great (big pool, tennis courts, playground, dog park and gym even with a Peloton!) The staff are all very friendly and the maintenance team is great and always complete any requests in a timely manner. The apartments themselves are spacious and clean with big closets, fireplaces, and nice patios. Really enjoy living here and just renewed our lease for another year!

I live at Orion and it is the perfect location for my life as a graduate student. It’s right on the bus route, has a gym and pool, and the leasing staff is always so helpful! Small and quiet community great for small families and students.

Management staff is terrible. They do not respond to emails or calls and when they finally get back to you they have a huge attitude. They try to charge top rates but the amenities are out of date.

Hello Mr. Beals, We sincerely apologize if you had a difficult time connecting with our management team, I do show that we responded to all of your emails within 4 days, it looks as though several of your attempts to contact us came through on weekends, after hours, or during the Thanksgiving holiday while our offices were closed and/or we were out of the office. It looks like initially you had reached out to Lauren; Lauren is the Assistant Property Manager and can typically provide answers to questions regarding final charges however, I also could have helped answer your questions as the property manager and would have been more than willing to speak with you had I been made aware of the concern. I did want to offer that while you may have had a cat in prior apartments, you had only lived in this apartment for 1 year and the carpet was brand new when you moved in. Unfortunately for us both, the cat did cause damage including staining and tears in the carpet throughout the home which when inspected by flooring professionals was deemed to need replacement rather than repair. I would be happy to provide you photos again, as we have already emailed you a detailed response with answers to your questions regarding your move out statement on 12/12/2019. Please reach out to our offices directly with any additional concerns you may have. Orionnorthstar.mgr@ram-mgt.com | 734-662-0330
I would like to share our unpleasant experience with others who are looking at Orion Northstar as a potential place to live, as our experience has only gotten extremely worse. In July, when we planned to move in, our apartment was not ready on the day we were told we could move in. This created chaos with our movers and the 3rd party relocation party through my company. When we did get the chance to move in, the hard wood floors were not put in. Orion then had to postpone our move in date again so they could lay hardwood floors. The floors were put in sloppy and the apartment was left in disarray with trash left in the closets and drywall and nails laying all over the floor, counters and bathrooms when we moved in. Not even a week after we moved in, our washer overflowed and flooded the entire bathroom and hallway all because maintenance didn't install the hose correctly. After all of that, there was no apology or offer from management for a discount in rent, in fact the staff was extremely rude. Meanwhile, the internet had been very slow and sometimes we were not able to use it at all because it was so bad. A month later, we get Comcast to finally come out to take a look at the internet problem. This poor Comcast guy stands out in the pouring rain for hours looking at the box, trying to figure out what is wrong. He comes back inside and looks at the cable in the wall and notices that someone fidgeted with the wires- someone had cut the wires and shoved them back into the wall. Even the Comcast guy said "Wow your apartment complex really screwed you over." This month, Neighbors have been stealing things out of our cars. But the most horrible was when someone stole expensive wedding earrings out of my car. My wedding was in 2 days and Orion did absolutely nothing to help or make the situation better. We filed a police report and the police said they have been watching Orion Northstar because there have been many reports of robberies in the apartment complex. Not to mention all of the other problems, our dishwasher stopped working, our garbage disposal does not work anymore, the hand towel racks in the bathrooms are put on so cheaply that they have broken off and cannot hold towels and the insane amount of ants we got in our kitchen this summer that must have come through the cheap flooring. Being now 8 months pregnant, I do not feel safe living in Orion Northstar and we would just like to move out early and not worry about this awful place anymore.
These guys refuse to refund me 300$ as the so called "administrative fees" which they had said is refundable. I had submitted a rental application with the previous management and paid the 150$ application fees 300$ for the admin fees. I cancelled my application couple of days later and the previous management told me the admins fees will be refunded back to me. After a month I called to follow up since I did not receive any refund. I realized the entire team is changed and the new management is refusing to do any refund. Totally dishonest and unfair! What made it worse is that when I went there to cancel my application, I realized my application was still sitting on the leasing officer's table with no changes, so basically I paid 450$ for literally nothing! Stay away.
Pros: - Location to grocery, bus stops, north campus, the highway. - Gym. - Vicinity of natural space. - Prompt maintenance. - Very polite office staff. - In unit washer and dryer (I got lucky with new units, maybe 1 year old). - Central air. - Overall decently quiet property re: neighbor noise. - Vaulted ceiling in second story units. - Accent Wall, painted with your choice of color (from a list). - Carports. - Free help from miantence to put up curtain rods. Cons: - Noisy, old A/C. - Carpet not necessarily new nor adequately cleaned, despite obvious stains from prior tenants. I had pet hair in most corners that took several months of resale vacuuming to remove. - Drafty — poorly insulated windows. - Poor landscaping further away from management office and the main entrance off Nixon or Nixon/Green intersection. I have giant chunks of grassless land right near my entrance, due intense rains and snow removal. Other buildings have ample shrubbery around, but not mine. - May 2017 a new property manager took over (I didn’t know about this change until after I signed the lease). Over the summer of 2017 many “aesthetic” changes were made to the exterior of the apartments — new brick work on the building entrances, paint jobs, repaving of driveways, work on some of the sidewalk issues (not all), new signage around the property. However over time new “extras” are being forced down renter’s throats. Starting soon they will be charging a monthly fee for garbage removal (which up to now hasn’t apparently been in the lease). They have this somewhat ridiculous service called “trash butler” where people take your garbage from your doorstep to the already conveniently located dumpsters and recycling bins — this will involve a fee they will be adding to everyone’s monthly rent in another year (whether or not you use the service). They set up Parcel Post and tacked on another $5 per month — this is one of the few changes that honestly make sense (one can safely and conveniently pick up packages at any time, not just during office hours). - The rent is horrifying for a complex that advertises its apartments “luxury.” No, these apartment are NOT luxurious. Unless you’re paying a lot extra for completely renovated units (new kitchen appliances, cupboards), the kitchen cupboards are flaky plywood with peeling off wallpaper like material.
I recently moved to Ann Arbor, MI from Baltimore, MD and I have been very impressed with my stay in Windemere. Working on North Campus, the location is fantastic. I am a short commute to North Campus and NCRC (where all of my classes are and where I will be working in lab). There is a bus stop nearby that two buses pass. The location is slightly far from Downtown, but using Uber or carpooling makes it a nonissue. Also, having a lot of places to shop close-by is a definite luxury that I have not experienced before. I am able to do the majority of my grocery shopping on the way home from class. Now looking at the apartments themselves... I am super happy! The rooms are huge, and the amount of closet space I have is incredible. I am able to hang-up all my t-shirts and pants, and still have space! The vaulted ceilings on the second floor make the apartment very spacious. I do not want to leave this place! Although in some pictures the appliances look old, they have been kept in fantastic condition. Downside is that there are not that many ceiling lights. Lamps fix the issue though. I am very happy living here! As someone new to the area, I highly recommend living in Windemere (especially with a roommate). Close to North Campus and the apartments are so nice!
I have been living at Windemere for a couple months now, and it has been a great experience so far. The Wedgewood style 2 bed, 2 bath apartment is very spacious. Staff is always helpful, and the maintenance crew is very good. There is ample storage space in the second floor units (they have a storage unit off the balcony). The amount of space for the price and good location (right near U of M North Campus) is great. There are some great amenities too: pool, hottub, gym, etc. The only downsides I've encountered so far is that there are no garages. Luckily there is assigned covered parking, but you are limited to 1 covered parking spot per apartment, and you can't pay for another. There is plenty of uncovered parking though, so that is good. Also, the basic appliances aren't the best. They get the job done, but the oven and stove top is a bit dated. Luckily, you can pay for individual appliance upgrades if you want. Overall, this is a great complex, and I would definitely recommend it to a friend!
Good location for shopping, banking, medical care. On the AAAT #2 Bus Line your able to take the bus to the University of Michigan Campus and Medical Center.
I love my apartment. It has a walk in closet and access to a tennis court, pool and gym. When we have had issues, management has quickly sent someone to address them. My only issue is the kitchen looks like its stuck in 20 years ago while the rest of the apartment has a much more modern feel. Additionally, the location of the apartment does allow you to connect to two bus lines but it would be much easier to maneuver with a car.
This is a wonderful and safe community. Very high end place with amenities in every unit, from dish washer to washer and dryer and plenty of bathrooms. The community boasts an olympic size pool, car ports for everyone and a work out center! The staff is wonderful, your packages are left safely at the office where you can pick up your fresh popcorn and cookies every day! I love it here the only thing I would like is a little more space in my apartment.
