Property Ratings at The Villas of Renaissance
Construction makes your apartment unlivable, but the real problem is the way they treat people.

Company does a decent job maintaining the common areas such as pools, the problem is that the apartments are overpriced and are in overall poor condition. I’m an existing resident for approximately 1 year now and my apartment has had issues after issues. This includes broken washer, leaking ceiling, broken refrigerator… Issues started once I moved in, with dirty carpet and it has been a persistent issue. Needless to say, I will not be renewing my lease. This is not a luxury apartment complex as advertised.

I would suggest not considering this community, if you prefer a respectable resident service, dirt-free, noise free, comfortable living environment - Worst Resident Services in LA Jolla. The resident services have no respect for residents and their family, especially families with babies The constructions and repair schedule in the buildings keep on extending all through 2022 and most of 2023. The disturbance, noise, dirt, construction vehicles has made the area not suitable to move around. If the resident asks to do something about noise and the toll it's taking on the Resident's mental health, they are brushed off from the office and not given any chance to speak about their grievances.
I have been living here for a year and my lease is ending and I am moving out. Starting with the positives, the community has good amendities for the price range and they are all very useful. The maintenance team is professional. plenty of parking from my experience. Very walkable place and is close to most of the places. This will be a great place to live if they don't start changing things without letting their tenants know what exactly are they doing. The down side is the construction. The other reviews are very accurate, dust and debri everywhere and the noise is too load that I feel uncomfortable with all windows shut. Vibrations also make you feel that the building is shaking. Rennovations are good but it should be a courtesy to let the residents know what is happening. My building's construction actually took place for more than 5 months and there are just random big noise every day that gives me heart attacks. The leasing office team used to be very nice but when the new team of staff came they become rude. They are getting better now with another new team but time will prove. After all I recommend touring this place multiple times during the weekdays to experience the construction. Note that this construction is only started so there are years to go for it to be fully completed. Don't sign everything without fully reading them like I did. There are some tricky parts on the documents they give you.
Hi, all potential residents. If you want to live with debris and noises more than four months in a year, then welcome to move to this place. You will breath in the most fresh dust coming out from your apartment wall when they cutting holes on the wall inside your apartment, YES INSIDE YOUR APARTMENT, and everything in your room will be covered by dust as well. Good Luck!

Security. There is none. There have been two community announcements left at our doorstep in the past six months letting residents know that cars left on Renaissance Avenue (the main road that leads to the apartment complex where guests must park) have been broken into. You could assume that if you park within your apartment building’s parking garage, you’re safe, but sadly, that is not true. The amount of parking for residents is abysmally low (sometimes nothing) at peak hours (after work, 6 pm ~ 8 pm), and since the majority of the parking spots are compact sized, this leaves any large vehicle in a bind. Some cars have no choice but to park on Renaissance Avenue. What truly left me speechless happened today (2/21/21). My car and the car next to me where broken into. We were both parked on the bottom level of the building’s garage which is gated off. I filed a police report and talked with my insurance, and as I predicted, the apartment complex will do nothing until the police gets involved by reaching out to them (Villas of Renaissance) directly. I got the typical “I’m so sorry this happened”, but even after letting the individual know my frustrations of the accumulation of events that has led up to this event, there was no attempt to discuss any steps moving forward. At this point, I do not think there’s an issue of bad people sneaking into the premises (which is possible), but I think there is an issue of bad people already living here. Villas of Renaissance knows this, and they are not willing to do anything.
The security you will have here is frightening. Be wary, they will use loopholes, avoid responsibility and evade communication. Irvine company is a risk and at fault.

We are living for 12 years at this property. Exceptionally green property. It used to be much more fun a few years ago when we had tons of activities on site (parties, cooking and painting lessons, karaoke, bingo games, live music, casino games, etc) Last two years they cut all entertainment budgets but repair services are still great, fast and professional.

We appreciate you sharing your feedback for our community! Thank you for choosing Irvine Company Apartment Communities as your home for the past 12 years! Kind Regards, The Villas of Renaissance team
Do NOT live here! This place is a giant human rights violation. It is completely uninhabitable as there is loud construction ALL day, EVERY day. There is always someone moving out and the apartment above you, or next to you, will consist of loud banging, sawing, drilling, hammering and yelling/ cursing construction workers. They give you no proper warning and do not care when you complain. They have been testing fire alarms for the past 2 days and did not warn anyone. You can hear the elevator going off loudly in my place 24/7 including in the middle of the night. There is NO privacy, the fences are very low and they are extremely strict about what you can do with your own patio or windows. Everyone who walks by can see directly into my bathroom. I was even harassed by another tenant and caught him peeping in a few times. The parking lot ramp is paved incorrectly and our car scrapes the bottom every time we enter and leave. The drawers are awkward sizes and placed in the worst spots. Living here is like dating someone who is extremely attractive on the outside but pure evil, shallow and does not care about you whatsoever. I have brought up all of these concerns on multiple occasions and they have yet to be addressed. I not only spoke to the property “manager,” I also attempted to contact Irvine Company and NOTHING.

I'm not even completely sure where to begin with this review, but I guess it's probably easiest to give you the short of it and tell you simply to consider living somewhere else. They got us to ink the lease without any prior warning that we'd only have access to amenities for 4 of the 11 months of our lease term before they would be shut down for eight months (or longer, by the looks of the current progress) of renovations. Their solution? Keep the rent the same for all of us even though we no longer had access to these incredible features we were initially promised and paying a high premium for, and instead offer discounted membership rates at 24 Hour Fitness. Also, they most definitely knew that the renovations were going to occur back when we we toured, so why they neglected to mention that before we signed is beyond me. Overall, I would stay away from this place-- by the time we had moved out, almost everyone on our wing of the hallway were already long gone. Residents have been dropping like flies across the complex in general, a trend that I believe will likely continue— especially given the black mold we found in our unit. I really, really wanted to stay here and make it into a home, but the lack of hospitality and the general sense that the whole function of the complex was to turn over a profit (nothing more, nothing less) led my husband and I to make the decision to bite the bullet and move to another complex in the area.

Worst place ever! The management is utterly worthless and does not care about its residents in any way. I am waiting for my security deposit refund for more than four months after moving out. They are out there to squeeze your money as much as they can without providing ANY service. Stay far from it! There are far better places than Villas in San Diego where they actually treat you as a human being.

The Villas used to be an INCREDIBLE place to live! It has the most beautiful pool and best apartment complex gym in all of San Diego, community events like luaus and movies in a movie theater. I'm not sure what happened. 1. Community events are a thing of the past. 2. Starting October 1, the big beautiful pool, hot tub, outdoor fireplace, fountain, gym, movie theater, community hangout spaces, business center, etc. will be closed for a minimum of 8 months. If this project is like past projects, they will be closed closer to a year. Despite the amenities that we chose this complex for and now pay for being shut down, rent is staying the same or increasing as usual. 3. Maintenance speed and standards have been going downhill. One example: the showers at the main pool (which will soon be closed) have been broken for at least seven months. No one has been able to shower before or after swimming for half a year. 4. A recent "update" was painting all apartment doors poop-brown. They had been a clean, crisp white. Will amend this review if anything changes / when amenities reopen. In the meantime, I would recommend looking elsewhere for your next home.

I moved in to the Villas of Renaissance about 2 weeks ago. They are expensive but I chose the place because I like the area and thought I'll be living a resort lifestyle. Shortly after moving, I noticed roaches in my unit. Gloria, the manager, sent pest control and my place was fumigated but the problem is persisting. I've expressed all my concerns to her in person but writing this review for potential renters. Right off, when I brought the problem to leasing office attention, Gloria accused me of bringing the roaches with me. However, I moved in with my clothes on my back - no furniture, no boxes. Her suggestion was rude. Now they want to fumigate the place again with harsh chemicals (I had to basically move out and move back in after the first round of fumigation). Living there has been a hassle! I couldn't sleep or stay in my unit for a week because of roaches and they don't let me change my unit. Also, as others have indicated, the appliances are cheap, it's noisy there and they charge way too much for what's offered. If I were you, I would not consider living there. Run!!
The Villas of Renaissance ( Irvine Company) has recently created a designated space for bicycle storage for which a designated lock was created ( different key than the one entering the complex space). Owning three bicycles I requested a key and stored my bicycles in the new place and coming from NYC of course I secured my 3 bikes with a steel lock just in case. Despite the 2 keys you need to get to the bicycle space, 2 of my three bikes were stolen being left with the cheapest bike and the clipped steel lock. When I asked the management at The Villas of Renaissance if other similar incidents happened I was told that other stolen bicycle reports were made but in different garage in my complex. Despite these incidents I was never advised that these bicycle designated storage places by Irvine are not safe. The Villas of Renaissance ( Irvine Company) did not compensate me for any portion of my loss advising me to go to my insurance company. "LOVE WHERE YOU LIVE" does not apply to me any longer......
I don't know how many times I've had to call to get incorrect charges removed. The staff is rude and defensive saying that they keep "perfect documentation". I had to schedule my pre apartment inspection three times before they finally came(on the last day of our lease), they did not keep actual records of whether keys were returned. I had to show them a picture for them to believe otherwise I would have been charged a ridiculous amount of money. They charged me $275 to move out and they told me those were STANDARD cleaning and repainting fees. We left that apartment spotless, they're just trying to make some money at this point. They really try hard not to help you, even earlier in the year when someone got off of the lease they were a pain. The complex itself is decently nice and I liked living there but the hassle of this whole move out situation makes it not worth it. Avoid this complex at all costs.
Absolutely NOT!! You want peace, tranquility and "love where you live" this is not the place for you!!! The noise from the garbage trucks, removalists, blowers, tree cutters and tilers is relentless!!! We asked for a sunny balcony and a peaceful location, we got everything but! When raised, we are just told 'sorry, nothing we can do' you are free to move however. We would strongly recommend you do not move here, it's a living nightmare!!!
Air conditioning and Heating in unit is Smelling from decades of neglect. I asked multiple time to clean, replace or retube the ventilation system but nothing has been done and of course further requests quietly ignored . Expect moldy, smelly and decades year old A/C system, vents and tubes that create an unhealthy living space for your lungs.
I have a 10 years of excellent renting record in states. Not a single issue. I won't advice staying here. RUN away. Don't be fool like me. Be aware of those fake 5 star reviews. Please read all reviews of real people who rented and then make your own mind. Here I paid heavy rent. The place is not at all safe. I stayed here for an year. college folks smoking nasty stuff, noise and late night car honks, parties is common. Club house is maintained below standards. Guest bathroom tub needed glaze. it took them a month to get vendor to repair it and later I had one week of terrible hazardous smell in apartment. During year long stay first, my dish washer stopped working and management sent new which was physically too much damaged. after two - three weeks of repair visit they finally got it right. then my cook top was found broke. I found that there was previous non standard repairs caused failure. the cello tape on placed on past repairs of wires was damaged & burnt. I had fire and electricity danger. Few days I couldn't do cooking while waiting for repair.. On top of it when I left (though apartment was in excellent shape) they sent me huge walk out bill. ( Later I read all reviews online and I found out it as an common practice by management) they RIP you in systematic; standard way. When I repeatedly requested review / correction ; proof of the charges, management just didn't cared. It was like I have no right to protest and must protect my credit score from this huge bill going to collection.
Apartment complex is not safe. I had my bike stolen from garage, parking pass stolen from my car, my neighbor got stalker notes on her car and other people got their cars broken into. My place was also flooded twice to the point that I had deep puddles in my carpet. Also, jacuzzi water was so filthy at one point that I stopped going there.
The apartment complex is relatively nice, the main common pool area is really upscale, with a hot tub. The main negative is noise. Whenever the upstairs neighbors walk in their room I can hear every step, and all the vehicles, especially moving vehicles are loud if you are next to the road as well. If you are on the top floor facing the courtyard, I think it would be great.
I have been close one year and am counting the days for my lease to end. The walls are thin so you can hear the neighbors and have very little privacy, parking spots are not allocated and often it is hard to find convenient parking after 8pm. However, these things don't bother me as much as the fact that I have had people enter my apartment without my permission, once when I was in it without even knocking or doing the doorbell. The managers do not communicate with each other and seem to make excuses rather than fix problems that are encountered. The building where I live has been undergoing through upgrades, leaving elevators out of service, floors painted (thus not allowing entry into/ out of apartment between 9am to 4pm for 2 weeks. After the upgrades, the areas look exactly the same, or worse. If you want to live somewhere where the staff only 'appear helpful', want lack of privacy, constant excuses, this is the place to waste your money. If you do not - there are plenty of other places of better value where you are less likely to get such incompetence.
