From the shore of Bde Maka Ska lake to the thriving businesses along Lyndale Avenue, Uptown serves as a major hub for arts and entertainment in Minneapolis. The music scene has deep roots, with legendary alumni such as Prince getting their start in Uptown. The nightlife tends to be a bit more subdued than the nearby Warehouse District, but still incorporates dozens of bars and nightclubs catering to a variety of tastes. The neighborhood is known for its artistic flair, reflected in the abundance of public artworks and popular events like the Uptown Art Fair.
When it comes to living in Uptown Minneapolis, folks have several great options. Most of the neighborhood is residential, with everything from historic apartment buildings to large single-family homes lining the streets. The extensive network of tree-shaded sidewalks make it simple to reach your favorite café or neighborhood pub on foot, and Downtown is easily within biking distance.

Property Ratings at Walkway
The neighborhood has potential to be fun and there are lots of things to do within walking distance.
I had high hopes when I decided to sign a lease at the Walkway. I was unable to tour due to Covid restrictions, so management sent me a floorplan of the unit and a video of a unit with similar finishes. I packed according to the floorplan I was given, and when I opened the door to my new apartment, the floorplan was completely different. I had to call maintenance for issues with my appliances at least four or five times. On top of that, the common areas were poorly kept. People’s pets would roam the halls, and I would find anything from dead plants and dirty underwear to food and animal vomit in the hallways. The wallpaper in the hallways was peeling, so they had a loud fan and big trash can sitting in the hallway for a week. The parking garage had a large puddle of dried animal (or human?) pee that hadn’t been cleaned in weeks, and oftentimes the garage smelled like cigarette smoke. The location has started to feel unsafe whether it’s a shooting a block away or a homeless man sleeping in the front entrance so I am unable to leave my apartment. Further, there have been issues with stolen bikes and people breaking into cars in the garage and stealing valuable items. I have never written a review in my life, but I wanted to share my experience to save others from feeling like they spent a boatload of money to live somewhere they regret.
I would recommend The Walkway for its prompt management and maintainence team but ultimately I cannot recommend the apartment for the price, amenities or age of the building.
Great residents, nice friendly staff, great location and great amenities.
It depends on what stage in life the individual is in. There are a few residents who do not respect the common areas or are still living the "college life". This is somewhat annoying from time to time. Especially due to the fact that they do not know how to pick up after themselves or stop trashing the place.
Great building and management in a convenient location. However if you're looking for a fun and social building there are other buildings now better suited for that,
Great quality apartments with a homey feeling. Lots of amenities and events provided. Quick response from management when I have questions. It is pricey and there's many different fees that add up but if you budget and can make it work it is worth it.
I would recommend Walkway because of the hospitality displayed by the employees during my visit!
The property was clean with no odors as I've encountered in most of the Minneapolis area.
It's a beautiful place to stay. Both interior and exterior as well as the location.
Really nice apartments. Quiet, comfortable and in a great location!
The website for The Walkway begins as follows: "Our focus is to deliver the concierge driven lifestyle and five star service our residents have come to expect." There are two main features that Walkway is known for: the hot tub and the resident bar (RBar). If you walk by the building on Lake Street, you will see that the hot tub is currently held together by plywood. We have not received any communication from management regarding if/when it will be reopened. We did, however, receive an email from management on January 9th notifying us that RBar would be closed "until Spring 2019." As of today, June 17th, the bar has not been reopened and, you guessed it, we have not received any communication from management regarding if/when it will be reopened. The difficulties continue beyond the shuttering of the building's two signature amenities (Walkway does not have a fitness center, game room, etc.). Pinnacle has also markedly reduced overall services. Specifically, they cut janitorial services and office hours off completely for Sundays. The result of this is that the common areas are a mess (particularly after nice pool days) and no one is there on Sundays to deal with issues (such as unattended, drunk non residents yesterday afternoon changing their children's diapers right next to the pool). The happy hours and catered events that the previous management firm, Excelsior, provided weekly are completely gone. The best Pinnacle has offered over the past 9 months or so since they took over has been roughly 3 /- events with a few cases of beer and a tray of crackers as well as 2 mornings where breakfast food was provided (bagels and donuts). Aesthetically, the common corridors are falling apart (ex. someone punched a wall in the 5th floor elevator lobby last year and no one has attempted to repair the hole in the wall, the wall coverings are very scuffed and in many areas pealing off, and the leather inserts on the door handles are all badly worn or missing entirely). On a positive note, the individual units remain very nice. While most other buildings have a very cookie cutter feel to them, the apartments at Walkway stand out as unique and very nicely appointed.
I wouldn’t recommend them because of the communication with us during the tour and leasing process. Being told two different things is very annoying.
Seems like a great place to live. I look forward to living there and meeting new people!
The building is new, well maintained with an exceptional staff. It's a great place to live and I have no complaints.
I love the apartment itself and the area, but not the current management of it.
I would recommend this apartment community to others, I?ve enjoyed living here and like all of the other residents. I would tell a prospective resident not to get bought in solely on the amenities. They are extremely nice but the fact that there isn?t a gym hurts, even though you get a stipend towards a gym membership you still have to go off site.
I love the building and the amenities. The neighborhood is really starting to suck though.
To reiterate, the feeling of the building has been substantially changed through the reduction of community events and services.
While the residents make the Walkway a great place to live, management has been disappointing as of late.
Our developer hooked our aquarium up to the building power supply so the fish and corals will be sustained by the back-up generator in the event of a power outage. That is an indication of how he did everything to please us: upgraded Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances in the eat-in kitchen, a large walk-in pantry, customized built-in cabinets in our closets, desk in the study, and headboard in the master bedroom, beautiful stonework around the gas fireplace. Our granddaughters love the pink guest bedroom. All this in the heart of Uptown, within walking distance of our grocery store, bank, movie theaters, and restaurants. And the SW sun exposure. Life is good.
