Property Ratings at Thorn Run Apartments
I have never had any problems at my stay here going on three years. Maintenance is top notch and my request when I have some are done in a timely manner. Last year on the coldest day of the winter my furnace went out after midnight. Someone was at my home around 1am fixing my furnace. The grounds are always kept nice and the laundry rooms are cleaned as well as the hallways are vacuumed and cared for.

Thanks for your kind words and your generous assessment of your rental experience with us in Pittsburgh! When our tenants are happy, we are happy!
I lived here for a few years and when I first lived here it was nice, staff was friendly. Post covid the staff is rude and not personable at all. Maintenance comes in apartments for inspections with dirty shoes and leaves a lingering stench of cigarette smell and are creepy people I felt uncomfortable around them. Laundry facilities are super dirty and the basement stinks. Dumpsters are constantly overflowing. Pool was closed staff didn't care year prior to that pool hours were reduced to 4 hours a day. Windows are super drafty. AC runs nonstop all summer long 2 summers in a row it broke leaving me to roast in my apartment for several days because 90 degrees out with no AC in July isn't urgent unless staff is already there. Heater runs a lot. Energy costs here are more expensive than my parents house that's 2.5 sq feet larger. Towards the end of my lease packages started getting STOLEN and office staff didn't seem to care. There's a lot of partying going on at night in apartments and outside which is disturbing. Grass and landscaping was always maintained. Parking lot is falling apart no upkeep. When I moved here had I left pre covid I would have thought more highly of this place., but they just don't seem to care anymore.
I've lived here nearly three months now and I can't say enough about how lovely this place is. The staff are super friendly and helpful, neighbors keep to themselves, the property is set back in the woods and is very quiet and peaceful. The apartment itself is a great size and a great price, very clean and everything works. We had a problem with the motor in the freezer and it was fixed the next day. It's pet friendly, which is rare these days. Buses also come into the complex at multiple points to pick up kids for school. The whole atmosphere of the place is so friendly. I'll be sad when I have to leave here for work.
I wouldn’t wish this lifestyle on anyone. Our 1bd ceiling has flooded 7 total times in 3 years, 5 of which have occurred just this summer. No fix, same problem.

Buyer Beware - the pool is not heated....the pool is no different than any other rental properties pool in the area

Thanks for your 4-star review. We appreciate you giving us 4 stars despite your dissatisfaction with the swimming pool. It's our great pleasure to provide this amenity to our renters at Thorn Run. To guarantee that it is maintained at the highest standard possible, we employ a professional pool services company. We leave it to their professional opinion to heat the pool at the level they believe appropriate. At present, it is set at a constant 81 degrees.
Glad to have gotten out of this apartment complex. It worked for the time being, but after moving out, I realized how overpriced and outdated it really was. Maintenance would come when called, but would trash talk their wives while fixing the problem. It was quite interesting and entertaining, but unprofessional. The ladies in the office wanted nothing to do with any type of issue that was present. They want to sit in their office and not be bothered. If you don't have any serious issues, you should be fine with them. If you do, well good luck to you. There are laundry machines downstairs, but they are pay per load. It will get expensive very quickly. There's a wide variety of people living here. Students, families, couples to people living by themselves. Let me tell you, they aren't the best. Take a drive around this place. You'll find broken blinds hanging, blinds cut out, sheets hanging in the windows etc. I'm glad to have gotten out and hope you do too or don't choose to live here in the first place. Shop around and I promise you will find something very comparable in pricing, but a lot higher class! I have gained my own washer/dryer, a fireplace, decent neighbors, a very large balcony, walk in closets, updated kitchen, beautiful buildings/complex and scenery, friendly staff, 2 full bathrooms instead of 1, a couple hundred more square footage and more! All of that plus more, for only $100 more than what I was paying at Thorn Run. Trust me, keep looking.
Just moved into Thorn Run Apartments a few months ago, but I like it already. Accomodations are spacious, quarters are clean and well kept. All units seem relatively sound proof, (a real plus)and management is friendly and helpful AND available seven days a week (another plus). With a 24 hour fitness center, pet friendly buildings--if you so desire, a heated swimming pool, a lighted tennis court, picnic and car wash areas---I'm loving it!! Lastly, it's close to shopping malls, a inter-national airport, two universities, and a hospital. What more can you ask for? Yes, I'm loving it!!! I lived at Thorn Run Apartments for two and a half years, and largely enjoyed by time there, though there are some limitations. Pros: --It's a well-kept community. Maintenance always quickly responded to all my needs. When a repair was needed, it was handled promptly and without question. --The grounds are well-maintained. If you have a pet, it's really an ideal apartment complex. You can walk to the back of the property and see a few of the Ohio River. --The amenities are a great convenience. There is a very nice pool, workout room and storage units. There is plenty of green space. Parking is also available--I never had an issue for myself or guests. If you own a pet, they have plastic bag dispensers and waist buckets throughout the property. --I was in a first-floor unit, and I felt it to be a good size for one person (and a small dog). If you're looking for something really spacious, this isn't it. But it's cozy. --When I moved in the apartment had been cleaned thoroughly and the carpet was either new or very well cleaned. --It's probably worth noting that you can pay rent and make maintenance requests online now. --It's a quiet neighborhood setting. I noticed a lot of different kinds of people there. Families, college kids, young professionals, seniors. There isn't one "type" of resident. Cons: --Rent goes up considerably every year. I'm sure they do this based on the market and what other properties are doing. But after two years, the cost of rent had really outsized the quality of the apartment. I think in two and a half years my rent went up about $100. --The kitchens and bathrooms are dated and fairly basic. Old appliances and cheap cupboards/counters. The floor has this old tile with grout that always looks dirty. Again, they are not poor in quality, but probably not appropriate for rent you're paying.
i have a very spacious 1 bedroom apartment with a patio facing beautiful trees and the river. The patio is designed for privacy. I have a large sliding glass door that leads out to the patio from the living room. This enables me to enjoy viewing the outdoors in all seasons! I have central AC and an automatic dishwasher and our maintenance crew takes care of just about every need or repair including replacing light bulbs! Our complex also has a large swimming pool and we are permitted to have grills and pets. I love living here and have been here 18 years.
This is a quiet, peaceful apartment complex located only 12 miles west of Pittsburgh. The surrounding community is very safe and welcoming. In addition, the residents are very friendly! The swimming pool and workout facility are nice accommodations. The apartments themselves are roomy, but are out dated in terms of kitchen cabinets, oven, refrigerator, and bathroom. The biggest inconvenience is having to share a laundry room with 6 total units. Overall, the staff does a phenomenal job with landscaping, lawn care, and maintenance. If you are looking for a decent, reliable, well-maintained, quiet apartment complex, this is for you.
When someone is told to not have someone there they should listen especially when their job is in jeopardy of that person being there.
The process was very easy and simple to rent at. The staff was very helpful. I would recommend one of my clients to as well.
