Property Ratings at Tierra del Rey
The reviews don't lie! I had scheduled a tour to view the building (despite the reviews because how could it be that bad?). I had a tour confirmed for Friday at 2 so I drove all the way from Brentwood to Marina Del Rey. Upon checking in, a leasing agent texts me saying there are no units available to tour. Why schedule a tour in the first place? Save yourself the energy.

Hello there, We are sorry to hear that you had a negative experience during your recent visit to our community. Understandably our touring availability is subject to change as apartments are leased. If an apartment leases the same day as your scheduled tour, the onsite team doesn't have a problem with allowing you to let you see the apartment. To access the most up to date touring availability information, we recommend checking our website the day of your scheduled tour. Additionally, for those who are unable to complete an in-person tour or prefer exploring our community from the comfort of their home, we offer virtual tours on our website. Your satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your understanding of the dynamic nature of apartment availability. Thank you for your interest in our community, please feel free to reach out should you have any further questions or concerns. Thank you for leaving us a review and for sharing your feedback! Kind Regards, Callie, WeCare@udr.com
Dangerous Homeless and filtration and living on the roof constantly Constant Airbnb tenants taking over No management on site No security on site Threats by the homeless people that are allowed to run rampant and live on the roof as well as in the dog park and they steal packages as well and they steal mail such that we didn’t get mail for six months so we suffered and got punished for UDR and Tierra Del Rey ‘s, lack of management and security on premises Constant clogging of sink and drain and not a timely repair. You can sit for days or weeks with this condition and you are not allowed to call your own Plumber they will stay that they have a shortage of staff. Neighbors Smoking pot all night all day long Nuisance smoke into apartments at all hours of the night Burglary and Breakin are the norm vandalism is the norm Fire alarms go off in the middle of the night at least once A month Water shut Constantly Very dangerous place to live. Highly recommend you look elsewhere.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We apologize for any negative experiences you had during your stay in our community. We take your feedback seriously and will work towards addressing the issues you mentioned to provide a better experience for our residents. Kind Regards, Madison WeCare@udr.com
Do not live here. We have had multiple break ins, and packages stolen and mailboxes broken into. There is a 3 year construction project adjacent to the building so you hear loud beeping and vibrating apartments Monday-Saturday 7am-9pm (these times is what the city is allowed to do). Legally there must be a on-site manager, which they do not have. The management is the worst I have ever dealt with, do not care about their tenants and just money hungry. The support center is in Denver so you can never speak with a person who will help you with any issue you have. DO NOT MOVE IN
Property Manager at Tierra del Rey, Responded To This Review
Hello, We are saddened to hear that you have been dissatisfied with your time in our community. Unfortunately, the city's construction project is not within our control; however, we do include a construction addendum in our lease contract (that was provided for review prior to signing) that states you acknowledge you may experience disruption. Our community does have onsite management that is available for meetings by appointment. Our onsite team is available for prompt communication via text, email, and ResApp communication. If you would prefer a phone call or meeting, please submit a request through one of the above mentioned platforms and we would be happy to schedule a time to discuss your concerns. We apologize for the dissatisfaction and look forward to assisting! Kind Regards, Madison
I lived at Tierra Del Rey (building 1) for 8 years due to the convenience of the location and not wanting to spend time moving. I finally decided to move out this month (May 2023) and I am so happy to be gone. There have been major issues over the years including: * The bathroom/closet flooding (and not getting it fixed for weeks) that caused clothes damage and water mold damage even after maintenance left. This issue reoccurred multiple times, over the first few years, before UDR finally replaced the entire HVAC unit in the apartment to remedy the issue. * A kitchen ant infestation due to the major construction project next door * My bike stolen right in front of my door (the bike was pad locked). Management said they reviewed the security tapes, but did not see anything. * The entire bike storage broken into multiple times (the gate was completely removed) * Repeated stolen packages from the package room (it is a well-known problem in the community that many couriers leave the packages in the room and then homeless/other people break into the room and take them) * Constant "water shut off" issues for the entire building because of a new leak that would happen in one of the units (due to bad plumbing infrastructure). If you worked from home, you would often be without water for multiple hours at least 2-3 times a month. Even with how bad the previous years were, the past year went downhill even more because of the following: * UDR removed on-site leasing personnel from Tierra Del Rey. This means that you have no one who you can immediately talk to if something goes wrong. Instead, you have to contact one of their other sister building on-site employees or their automated maintenance phone number and wait until they respond. * Vandalized mailboxes that caused the USPS to stop delivering mail to ALL units (you would have to go to the USPS Venice location 10-15 mins away to pick up your mail in person). This issue occurred the month before I moved out and UDR sent an email saying they hoped the mailboxes would be fixed in 6-8 weeks afterwards (so a minimum of 2.5 months without mail getting delivered likely longer). * Homeless hanging around at the entrances of the building causing major security issues (this issue started to get worse once all on-site leasing personnel were removed from the property).

We apologize for any dissatisfaction and wish you all the best in the future! Kind Regards, Madison WeCare@udr.com
I came home from a vacation 7 weeks ago to my apartment sinks flooded and overflowing into the carpet. It was absolutely disgusting and the smell of sewage was overwhelming. I was able to get an emergency plumber to come and drain, but despite repeated requests to management they have done absolutely nothing to remedy this situation in what is now almost 2 months. They did not bring in someone to clean and sanitize the sinks, and they still have not dealt with the carpet. To make matters worse, I came home last week and found my door unlocked. Maintenance had let a 3rd party into my apartment ILLEGALLY WITHOUT ANY NOTICE AND DID NOT LOCK MY DOOR WHEN THEY LEFT. I feel extremely UNSAFE in this building and management has been completely dismissive to my requests to terminate my lease despite their gross negligence and the fact that they have allowed other neighbors to terminate their leases without penalty. I have filed a complaint with the housing department as management seems to think it's okay for me to live with a moldy carpet for 7 weeks, enter my apartment without any notification or my permission, and to leave the door unlocked without caring that there is a lot of crime in the neighborhood and theft is rampant here.

I lived at Tierra for a single year, during which I noticed huge churn in the employees and staff, general incompetence and disorganization from management, and effective negligence to renter concerns. Some of the things I dealt with: (a) many e-mails and phone calls, even for essential concerns like AC functionality, water problems, etc. to get fixed *numerous times*. (b) pretty routine lateness, occasional missing of appointments, and general lack of knowledge from desk employees to handle issues regarding rent, maintenance and lease signing tasks (lots of "uhhh i don't know how to do this, can you come back next week when X person is here?" rinse and repeat nonsense), (c) loud noises from neighbors and management unwillingness to address concerns, (d) VERY frequent water shutoffs and issues. I'm pretty sure all these problems could be addressed by hiring competent people in management and staffing the place, but Tierra has been consistently bad at this. The only redeeming quality of this place is the location, and there are other, better complexes nearby which I believe are much better managed.
My car was stolen last night from the parking lot, where there is supposedly "Security"... There is absolutely no security here. The homeless routinely get into the hall ways and run around causing havoc. Last night someone apparently got into the complex and proceeded to steal my car. I've lived throughout Los Angeles and I've never felt as unsafe as I do here. Management will tell you "crime happens everywhere" -- it just so happens it reoccurs here over and over again and they've done nothing to try and help. If you would like to put your life and belongings in jeopardy, i'm sure management will give you a gift card to move in. There are many great places to live in Marina, but Tierra Del Rey is not one them.
Property Manager at Tierra del Rey, Responded To This Review
We are sincerely sorry to hear your car was stolen. It is my understanding the cameras were able to show some footage and we hope it helps in identifying the person responsible. We have a courtesy patrol that secures our common areas and responds to resident noise complaints. There have recently been multiple apartment communities in the Marina area that have had similar occurrences. I have contacted our field representative with the police department that is assigned to our area to request more frequent patrol. We are happy to work with the local authorities to assist in any way we can. Thank you for your review. Best regards, Jody Conley 720-348-7620 WeCare@udr.com
Would not recommend. The location is AMAZING but that is really the only good thing about this place. We lived there for 3 consecutive years, and after the first year and half, they changed out all of the staff and renovated the building. And they slam you with little extra fees. Staff is seemingly impossible to reach and we didn't feel we could trust them. We lived in an older apartment, not a remodeled one, which is fine, but it was priced the same as an updated one. For fees, we had an "optional" parking spot, which we could not choose to not have, and there was a $30 monthly fee for it. Community utility bills were outrageous and we were charged an average of $120 each month - and it always seemed to be increasing. Also, for packages, they have package lockers which you have to create an account for, for a $20 annual fee, then a monthly $5 fee, and if you don't pick up within a particular time frame, you incur extra fees. You could choose not to have this "service", but the office would not receive packages. Also, many times the carriers would not even put your packages in the lockers - they would leave them in stacks by the mail boxes or at the apartment door. We had a few go missing in our time there, and many of our neighbors had stolen parcels as well. Not to mention, they kept repainting the hallway floors, then would power wash them causing them to need to be re-painted. Fire alarm testing was OFTEN. After we complained numerous times, they at least started to give us warning when they would test so we could make arrangements for our dog since the alarms stressed her immensely. Additionally, we had a number of times (like 3 or 5) that the alarm would go off in the middle of the night - sometimes it was a fault in the system, sometimes it was a resident burning their food, one time a resident was smoking in the hall, and one time, someone tried to drive a U-Haul into the parking garage and busted the sprinkler that was on the ceiling and got the truck stuck. SMH In the end, the only care about the money and do not value you as a resident. I highly suggest you take your money elsewhere.
There have been several issues since moving in, such as a near full month of loud construction with electric saws etc. around the clock, but the most recent event has left me no choice but to voice my concerns about the management at this facility. On Friday I noticed that one of my walls inside my walk in closet had been leaking, causing mold to grow. The floor was also soaked. I reported the incident within 24 hours. It was not until 4 days later, half a dozen emails, and personally walking up to the office, and then another email that someone finally showed up. Amara from the leasing office purposefully ignored the issue, as she was aware of the issue when I came to her, yet she didn’t feel it necessary to reply to my messages or tickets. She also lied about service walking to the apartment as we spoke, when really they didn’t show up for another 4 hours (after I finally warned approaching her boss about this). Maintenance Service is just straight up under qualified. For 4 days in a row they just made me run a loud obnoxious fan without fixing the actual leak. Aside the nuisance, electricity cost, this thing sprayed dirt and sand all over my clothes over night, even though the guys said it won’t cause any issues and can leave my clothes in the closet. It’s now been a full week since this issue started, and there is no finish line in sight. They hope it gets fixed soon. Soon? As in like 3 weeks from now? A competent management would have fixed the issue within 48 hours. I reached out to the manager Felice Brown to discuss the issue and potential compensation for damage caused and time wasted, but she too decided to ignore my email, so I’m left with no choice to make this heard in the hope that they wake up, and not just let a tenant’s apartment get flooded and ignore it.
I wish they had a zero star this place deserves a zero... The good: Great location Friendly neighbors Love the balcony Plumbing is never a problem Low noise from neighbors The birds here are plentiful. The bad: No security (dont listen to there lies there is none, none, none) cars get broke into regularly Cheapest equipment No insulation in the walls or doors. You can hear even small conversations of your neighbors. Non stop water shutoff and fire alarms in the building from this building... (daily) Cheap cabinets, doors fall off regularly. The UGLY: The maintenance team (rig it so it works never replace. The enviting staff at the beginning then the relentless emails. Never do they walk the property. HORRIBLE Dog area never clean no one picks up. I believe it's due to the laxidasicle staff... PARKING THE WORST IVE SEEN... and you have to pay.. Take it or leave it in competing may last lease here, wish I could get out early... April is not to far away... ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!
I have been a tenant for 4 months. Always pay rent on time. Today we received an email from the leasing office reminding us not to be late or they would add a fee. Direct these to those who do not pay please. Rent is around 4k but there are numerous additional fees, the latest being a parcel fee because the on site team refuses to accept packages for tenants. I have had a list for 4 months of repair items some of which are cosmetic but some which are health and safety related. In four months they have done nothing. Great location but the lead manager is in the wrong business. Put your money elsewhere
This location is ideal if you want to live in a clean place with loads of amenities and quick access to food and entertainment. The building offers it's residents a pool, a gym, a whirlpool, few bbq spots, a large courtyard with plenty of clean lounge chairs, a business center, a gym, and a common area with seating and a kitchen so you can entertain guests. A great feature of this building is it's location: including a slew of eateries, it has 3 grocery stores in walking distance, 1 drug store, a bank, juice shops, pizza shop, 2 AMC theaters (yup 2)...all right across the street. If you're the kind of person who wants the option of coming home from work and relaxing in a pool and then walking across the street to get some amazing food...and maybe catch a movie (dine-in theater, by the way), then you'll be happy here.
Pro: Thick walls, washer/dryer, air condition, clean community, good maintenance and helpful management. Cons: Rent increases 10% per year. Lots of complexes are being built close by and traffic is getting bad.
Tierra del Rey is residential living embraced by the quiet confidence and classic elegance that define the neighborhood on the corner of Glencoe and Maxella Avenues in the heart of Marina Del Rey. It is distinctive and contemporary from the outside where you'll be surrounded by the finest restaurants, theaters and shopping all in walking distance in the glamour and energy of the Marina. Modern, warm and inviting on the inside you'll find a recreation area to swim and sunbathe, barbecue, workout in the gym and drift off to sleep knowing it's not just where to live but how to live. With gracious interiors this exceptional complex offers generous one-to three- bedrooms with each residence outfitted with a washer and dryer, quality appliances, recessed lighting and granite countertops. Floor to ceiling wall of glass opens onto private terraces to create an inviting indoor/ outdoor environment. Some people might call it the vacation of a lifetime. You will call it home.
Excellent amenities, walking distance to many restaurants and shops, and a few minutes from the beach. A fantastic place to live for those who want everything right next to them.
