Property Ratings at Toftrees
I’ve lived here for two years, and I can confidently say this place is not worth the rising rent. Since moving in, the rent has increased by $300, yet the quality of living has plummeted. The pest situation has been unbearable at times — bats in the ceiling and mice in the walls. Instead of addressing mice infestation properly, management seems content to let it go unresolved for extended periods of time. There is persistent mold in the bathroom. Maintenance keeps caulking over it, but it always comes back. I reported that my fridge was leaking, I was told I was just “spilling water.” Their dismissive attitude toward legitimate concerns is frustrating. They know the trash service does not work but still force residents to pay for it. Despite these ongoing issues, management has no problem raising the rent significantly without offering any improvements in return. If you’re considering moving here, I highly recommend looking elsewhere.
An amazing first apartment for me. I lived in turtle creek for about 2 years as a grad student. Jenna at the office was very helpful and kind - maintenance is responsive, neighbors are quiet, setting is peaceful, apartment is clean and without a flaw. Not at all for undergrads - perfect for grads/adults/families. Oh - utilities included too! Just have to pay quarters for laundry. I felt safe here and never had a single issue. Highly, highly recommend.

When I first moved in two years ago, I thought it was an average outdated apartment. Rent has since gone up a lot and the apartment has continually gotten worse and worse. If you like the strong smell of cigarettes seeping into your apartment with leaks that continue to gather mold, this is the place for you! The backyard view is a gorgeous mud pile with sewage pipes sticking out of the ground (from the recently exploded sewer).
I have been living here for three years, and it's been a quiet apartment building that I loved it very much! However, it is getting worse. Originally, these apartments were for graduate students and professionals, but more and more undergraduate students are now living here. The parties and crowd noise, strong smoking smell, barking dogs/odor....... I also don't like that they force residents to pay the membership fees for the clubhouse. This should be optional. They also increase the rent every year...I am thinking about moving out...
Toftrees apartments are old, but well maintained. There is laundry, parking on site and a wonderful club house with pool and gym for the residents. The nature around the apartment complex is wonderful
I have lived in Toftrees Parkgate building for 2 years. The Parkgate building is older but they have upgraded some models. The upgrades are are cheap but it's still nice and I do enjoy living there. I haven't had any issues at all and any time I needed a service request they responded pretty quickly. There are also 5 other apartment complexes other than Parkgate which are all owned by Berger Rentals. Some of those buildings are newer and they also are building a brand new building called Highwoods at Toftrees that will open the Summer of 2016 and they just opened a brand new club house with a pool, lounge, business center and gym. Most of these buildings are pet friendly and the area is perfect for going for walks with your dog. There are a lot of biking/walking paths and a golf course. You are 5 minutes away from restaurants, Wegmans and other shopping areas. It is also located 5 minutes from Penn State Campus. It is a good community to live in with a good mix of professionals and Penn State students.
