Property Ratings at Torrey Gardens
Unfortunately at this point I feel obligated to leave a review. I work in customer service and understand the impact of a negative review, but I’ve had enough and need to share. I’ve lived there on 2 separate occasions. Each for 1 year. I recently moved out on January 8th. A few days after moving out I was notified that the elevator was allegedly damaged by the movers I hired. (During the move the fire alarm went off rendering the elevator useless) I notified the leasing office and the corporate office to pursue the moving company directly if they could in fact prove the damage was caused by my movers. My deposit was supposed to be returned in full as my apartment was in excellent condition. I received a letter in the mail stating I would not be getting my deposit back and in turn I owe $750 on top. 2 of the charges were for heavy carpet staining and drywall damage. I lived alone with no pets and never had shoes on the carpet. There were no stains. I asked for pictures/video proof of the damages. They weren’t able to provide either and ended up responding “we’re sorry for the oversight, we’ve reversed the charges”. I would be careful, it looks like their “oversight” is an attempt to charge people who don’t read their deposit paperwork at the end of the lease. The bill still included the alleged damage to the elevator. Which now after 4 attempts to retrieve the video evidence ( I have email proof where they stated they had video evidence ), they are not willing to share it with me. Imagine being in a courtroom where the plaintiff states they have video evidence on the grounds of “just trust us we do”. This is how I’m being treated. I have refused to pay the bill until they share the video. I need to share the video with the moving company so I can be reimbursed by the moving company. Unfortunately nobody in their corporate office understands that the quicker I have the video the quicker I can pay and pursue the moving company. Unfortunately the leasing office manager seems unsure of how to handle situations like this. When asked for someone’s phone number I can contact at their corporate office (a few exits down in La Jolla), there is suddenly no human that works at the office. The leasing manager stated “they’re not a call center”. A charming way to handle a situation like this. Try to avoid living here unless it’s absolutely necessary, and pray you never have an issue that needs to be resolved with any ounce of critical thinking on management’s end.

If you wish to discuss your residency further, please contact our Customer Service team at customerservice@gardencommunitiesca.com.
If you want help from management, a nice place to live, elevators to work, parking don’t live here. It’s awful management never answers to emails, calls, pool closes extremely early most people aren’t off of work till 5 it closes at 4:30 here. Gym is awful small and not very much equipment. You can rarely find guest parking and worst of all did I mention management it’s terrible! Only person I liked was the maintenance guy.
I moved to Torrey Gardens 3 years ago and i loved every bit of thos community. The apartment is very new looking and the amenities are amazing. The office staff really made me feel like i was important and they cared about me. Dan in the office was always so kind to me as well as the manager Stella and Sherry. Im really going to miss this place and i recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great place to live with a warm staff to take of you.

This complex is brand new, which is why we chose it since just having had a new born, we wanted something new and clean. All the appliances are new, and quite, except for the AC, we can't even hear the tv in our living room as it is so loud. The complex is gorgeous, amazing gym, nice pool, we are located up high too, we have view on the very loud freeway, we can also hear it from our apartment. There is also an army base less than 10 miles away so we constantly hear the loud airplanes, day and night. The location is great, we're in the middle of everything, so all and all I am rating this a 3 because it's not so fun hearing the freeway and army planes everyday.

Hello and thanks for your feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the amenities here at Torrey Gardens. Unfortunately, because of the proximity of living in this area of San Diego where your not too far from the base, you will from time to time hear the noises associated with that and may be a little disturbing to some not used to it. We hope insulation and dual window glass panels were able to suppress some of the sounds in the surrounding area. If your interested in transferring to a location that will suit your needs we have floorplans away from the surrounding sounds. Please stop by the leasing office and we can discuss some options for you.
We moved into Torrey Gardens in January and love our apartment! First off, the apartment is beautiful and spacious. The location of the apartment is ideal with being close to the 805, 5, and 56 freeways. Right in between La Jolla and Del Mar, about 25 minutes to downtown. Maintenance is efficient. We had an issue with our refrigerator a few weeks back. I went online to inform them about the issue and 20 minutes later someone was at our apartment to check it out. I went out for a few hours to run some errands and came back to a whole new refrigerator! The leasing office staff is super friendly & helpful as well. We are sad to be breaking our lease early to move out of state or else we would be staying here for a couple years!

Positive Features: 1. TG is new. Torrey Gardens is relatively new (began leasing in 2014), and many of the apartments have not yet been lived in. Because of how new it is, the apartments and buildings are clean and fresh looking/smelling. Moreover, the kitchen appliances and other utilities are all top-quality brands (e.g. whirlpool, LG) 2. TG is well-maintained. TG has a maintenance crew that is incredibly thorough. Once a bottle of salsa fell out of my grocery bag and splattered all over the elevator floor. I got off the elevator, stepped into my apartment for about 3 minutes to get some wash cloths and paper towels to clean it up, and by the time I got back to the elevator (about 5 minutes total) the elevator floor had already been cleaned up. Moreover, each time we have submitted a maintenance request, the TG has been very punctual to respond. Though our maintenance requests have been minor (e.g. adjust a light fixture, etc.) TG has been incredibly quick to respond. 3. TG is affordable. With rising costs in rent, I feel like TG is relatively affordable for what you get. With a gorgeous pool area, extensive fitness center, entertainment facilities, and perfect location, I feel like the low $2000s is very reasonable. Negative Features: 1. Each TG building has only one elevator. This can be frustrating when elevator traffic is heavy (always seems to be at the times you are in a rush!). I have spoken with several other tenants who have expressed a similar frustration. Additionally, the elevator in my building has had a few mechanical problems requiring maintenance to constantly be making repairs. As a tenant on the fourth floor, the hike up six flights of stairs (from our parking spaces on the second parking level) can be daunting. As mentioned earlier, maintenance at TG is very punctual, so these issues seem to be resolved relatively quickly. But it can still be a pain. 2. The kitchen bar countertop does not hang out far enough. Each kitchen features a bar that appears really modern and good looking. However, when you sit at the bar, you'll realize it does not hang out far enough. My wife (5'5") is not bothered by it, but for me (6'3"), it is very uncomfortable to have to lean over to get a little counter space, and to constantly be hitting my knees on the wall supporting the counter. 3. The air conditioner is somewhat loud. Make sure you have turned on your surround sound before you turn the AC on!
