With Hayward Japanese Gardens at the south end of Castro Valley and Lake Chabot Regional Park on the north side, Castro Valley is bookended by natural beauty. Add the parks to the east -- Cull Canyon Regional Recreation Area and Don Castro Regional Recreation Area -- and you should pack your hiking (fishing, camping, boating, etc.) gear before moving to Castro Valley; you'll need it. Of course, with Castro Valley's hills, mountain views, and palm trees, you might be content to just sit on your apartment balcony and enjoy the bay breeze.
Located between San Leandro and Hayward, Castro Valley is across the bay from San Mateo, just about 24 miles southeast of San Francisco. Commuters can reach San Francisco via BART (the Bay Area Rapid Transit System) in less than 30 minutes. Because of its convenience and beautiful setting, Castro Valley is one of the region's most populated CDPs. Castro Valley Boulevard provides a variety of shops, restaurants, and other businesses.

Property Ratings at Town House Plaza
This apartment complex is a fairly decent property but has a horrible parking problem and no type of security whatsoever. In my experience all within one year the mailboxes have been broken into numerous times with no corrections made to alleviate the thefts, I have had a motorcycle stolen right out of the carport and many of the residents including myself have had vehicles towed away that were legally parked and we're not an inconvenience to anyone. These are just a few things that I have experienced and there are more things that I won't even begin to get into. With the rent being as high as it is, you would not think that security, surveillance or a secure postal box would be an issue.
Nice, quiet, well-maintained, centrally located complex in Castro Valley, right on the Hayward border (it's not in the CV school district). Located a block away from Trader Joe's, a community church, several markets, restaurants, and salons; and only a ten minute walk (or a five minute drive) to Castro Valley BART, it's definitely a walkable area, although not that many people around here do so. There are two pools and lovely, landscaped grounds with an owner who really takes care of and continually upgrades the grounds and the units. The residents are a mixed bag socio-economically, but generally it's a hardworking, respectful crowd with a fair amount of long-term residents, and some who keep to themselves and others who are more social. There's a lot of people with kids here and although there's no formal play area, they seem to have a grand time running around the grounds after school. At the same time, it's generally very quiet and unless you're located in one of the townhouses right near Grove St. (and they have dual pane windows, which helps), you can barely hear the traffic at all. The complex stretches way back from the street and abuts a creek and a big, open (closed off to the public) field behind the next-door storage facilities, so it gets its share of nature and wildlife. There's a bit of a feral cat problem involving the complex next door, but several residents help take care of them. Residents are allowed up to two of their own cats, but only service dogs. The unit types are mixed, from studios to spacious two-bedroom apartments with balconies, and two-bedroom to three-bedroom townhouses (upstairs/downstairs) with back patios and really large bedrooms. Management is friendly and very attentive, including maintenance requests, and I've never had to wait long for anything to get fixed or repaired. I've been here over six years and have no plans to move, so I guess you could say I recommend it!
I tell people I love where I live because it allows me to live a European lifestyle. There is a grocery store (Trader Joe's) that I can get to within 5 minutes. This allows me to shop more often and waste less food. Getting to major public transportation (BART) only takes a 15 minute walk. This allows me to get to around the Bay Area (including 2 major airports) without having drive. However if I do want to drive my home is nicely situated that I can get to 3 of the major highways (580, 680 and 880) very easily. It's not just the location that makes this place appealing. The complex is kept very clean, the onsite gym is very convenient and the 2 pools are very inviting on hot summer days. My neighbors are quiet and respectful and the overall feel of the place is casual and relaxing. I really enjoy living here! My
Beautiful, very well kept community with heated pools. The pathways are nicely lit, and it feels safe to walk at night, but the lights are strategically placed to not disturb anyone. Stacey and her staff are very friendly and made the application process easy compared to other places I've rented from. They also have a workout room, and laundry room, both very clean and well maintained. The surrounding area has plenty of places to eat and shop. Bart is a nice 15 minute walk away. This was an amazing find!
This townhouse is so pleasant. It is newly updated from the floor to the windows. It is so very spacious and has a unique nook. The bedroom balcony overlooks the pool, and there's a nice size patio in the back. This townhouse has been more than perfect for my little family. The manager here is even wonderful!
My roommates and I moved to Townhouse Plaza in March of 2015. There were some negative comments on review sites, but we've had literally no problems since moving in. Minor requests for maintenance (a broken screen, damaged window blinds) have been addressed promptly without issue. The amenities are nice (a reasonably outfitted gym, external laundry room and pools) and the location is within a mile of the BART, which is critical for most mass-transit in the Bay Area. While there are not many shopping areas within walking distance, basic amenities are close and a reasonably varied downtown area is within a 5 minute drive. We've had rather good experiences with the neighbors so far, and everyone seems congenial. On the whole, I'd say this is the best apartment I've lived in in the last 10 years.
ITS PARADISE HERE!!! Ok so its not really paradise but there really isnt any problems with the complex (other than that there is NO guest parking). But for those who has gone apartment shopping this place is as good as it gets. The complex is clean and the green is nicely maintained nothing is out of control or intruding. The community is great as there are a lot of families and you can see kids playing with each other and during the summer time all the families are at the pool lounging around as their kids play in the water. A great thing about the complex is that it is fairly close to A LOT of amenities i.e, trade joes, 7-11, mexican market... and if you like to take a long stroll you can walk to downtown castro valley. The management is solid as they are friendly and willing to help you with whatever problems you have. And the best of all they arent monsters about raising rent. The rate they raise rent is reasonable i.e. mine is going up only $25 or so. Nice!
