West Ashley sits within the city of Charleston and is west of the Ashley River, hence its name, and is the birthplace of Hootie & the Blowfish’s frontman, Darius Rucker. Lined with mossy oaks, the Ashley and Stono Rivers border West Ashley, creating the breathtaking scenery for which Charleston is known. West Ashley residents enjoy close proximity to the area's only indoor mall, the Citadel Mall, and a large number of big-box stores.
Situated seven miles due west of Downtown Charleston, residents can plan on a 15- to 30-minute drive, depending on traffic, to take in all downtown has to offer. Nearby Interstate 526, which feeds directly into Charleston’s Interstate Highway 26, gives residents a fast and easy route in and out of area. Mid- to late-1900s ranch-style homes characterize the housing in outer West Ashley, but neighborhoods built in the 2000s also sprinkle the area.

Property Ratings at Townhouse Village
I lived at Townhouse Village for 2 years. This was my third apartment. This complex is the first one I'd recommend in the Charleston area for anyone looking for a great place for a reasonable price. Management: I am a very low maintenance resident, but management was always responsive and friendly towards me. I had some concerns with a neighbor early on while living here, and they approached the situation objectively and resolved it well. Townhouse Village recently merged their management staff with Village Square Apartments. However, I continued to work with the same representatives of Townhouse Village, so they continued to be great to interact with. Financial/Deposit: Townhouse Village is very reasonably priced. They are large apartments, and there were no increases to my rent during my time there. Deductions from my deposit were reasonable, and I was charged what I expected with no bogus fees. Property: Townhouse Village is a somewhat old complex, so the exterior appears somewhat antiquated. The landscaping is well maintained in most cases. The walls are somewhat thin due to the apartments' age. Maintenance: I had only 2 maintenance issues over the course of 2 years. The first was a low-urgency door knob malfunction that was fixed the next day. The other was a more urgent water heater leak, but this was fixed very promptly after they completely replaced the water heater. I was very impressed at maintenance's professionalism and timeliness. Safety/Surrounding Area: Townhouse Village is located in a reasonably safe part of town, but it's certainly not as nice as Mount Pleasant or James Island. There are many shopping locations nearby, including the mall. This also means that there is quite a bit of noise pollution. Cleanliness/Pests: Townhouse Village hires an exterminator to spray each apartment for pests every few months. As a result, I believe I saw only 1 cockroach during my entire 2 years there. Spiders and silverfish were uncommon. Like everywhere in Charleston, there were a ton of termite swarmers depending on the time of year. I never saw any signs of rats or mice. Overall, Townhouse Village is a great value at a convenient location. I would still be living there if I didn't have to move for a new job!
I didn't meet many issues while I was there but they will try to rob you when you leave. Bad management and bad staff there!!!!!!!!!! i will give zero if possible for rate.
Townhouse Village is a great place to live. The location is amazingly convenient. You're right near both 26 and 526, and there's a bus stop right around the corner. It's only 6 miles from College of Charleston campus, and a commute to campus takes less than half an hour. You're also right off Sam Rittenberg, so there's plenty of shopping options right nearby (we even just got a brand new Starbucks with a drive through!). But the complex also has a very private feel, and it's quiet and safe. The staff are great here. The property manager Brandi is very nice and helpful. I've never had a bad interaction with her. If there's anything wrong with the apartment, she'll get someone over ASAP to fix it. For what you get here - 2 bed, 1.5 bath townhouse - this is a great price. And the extras - safe but convenient location, great staff, etc. - make Townhouse Village is a great place to live.
