Property Ratings at Towpath Village
I’ve lived at Towpath for 2 years. The apartment is clean, newly renovated, and everything works (electric, heat, water, Internet). Frequent short-term power outages due to weather, it goes with the territory in Warren County. Good sq footage for a good price. Safe and peaceful neighborhood. One HUGE drawback is lack of right to peaceful occupancy - the maintenance and short-notice apartment entry is beyond excessive. Every couple months you get an email giving a few days’ notice about some kind of upgrade where you’re required to remove your pet and vacate your apartment. I’ve been keeping records, have a look: Oct 2022 front doors repainted, contractors left door open and let my cat out; Nov 2022 balcony repainting early AM; Feb 2023 bathroom tub resealing, toxic fumes; March 2023 parking lot repaving, short-notice w threats to tow cars; March 2023 siding work outside bedroom windows early AM; April 2023 water shut-off; Aug 2023 water shut-off; Sept 2023 window & door replacement, contractors let my cat out and made a huge mess ripping out drywall and windows, I had to clean dust and debris up myself; Nov 2023 water shut-off; Dec 2023 outside light fixture replacement early AM; March 2024 state inspection required on short notice (24 hr); June 2024 attic spray foam insulation, toxic fumes and I had to vacate for a week, contractors left huge mess I had to clean up myself; July 2024 water shut-off; July 2024 staff let themselves in to change electrical and plumbing to “green” equipment on short-notice; Aug 2024 received notice roads would be closed off due to pavement resealing. If the property owners would stop letting themselves in to do improvements this place would be paradise. I’m leaving because of the excessive apartment entry.
- [ ] I have lived here for four years. Recently we are under new management, who has been very busy making exterior improvements for appearances while neglecting tenants. We have been without the laundry service for two weeks, and no word on when we will get it back. I complained about my hot water and got a “we are concerned and on it” phone call, but no change or follow up. Expect to make regular calls to the office, but it will look nice.

I’ve lived here for 5 years and have had over 300$ worth of items stolen from clothing to kitchenware. The main office does nothing and it’s someone with a key because we lock up every day. I can’t afford a surveillance system otherwise this would’ve been done long ago. It’s scary and disgusting that someone comes into my personal space and steals and nothing is done about it. If you like your things, DONT MOVE HERE. I notice something new missing every other week. I pray to be out ASAP
Property Manager at Towpath Village, Responded To This Review
Upon reaching out to our on-site staff at Towpath Village, we have no record of any Incident Reports regarding theft of personal items or individuals entering tenant’s apartments unlawfully. Additionally, if any incident of theft occurred…once notified, on-site staff would have directed you to contact the local police department to have a police report recorded. We received no such notice. We encourage tenants to carry renter’s insurance to protect and ensure their possessions against loss. Please reach out to the Leasing Office so that further action can be taken. Thank you.
We've lived here for about 4 years. The onsite management is never-to-be-seen unless showing an apartment, the maintenance staff is usually very prompt and mostly courteous and pleasant to deal with. The parking lot is desperately in need of re-paving, however- when it snows, maintenance is on it multiple times and very efficient. The 2 bedroom apts. are roomy and comfortable with good sized bedrooms. The pet policy is standard- pets need to be noted, with a deposit and monthly rent increase. I'm upset that the rent goes up every year and they tack on an additional security deposit every year at renewal....why? There is NO sound proofing. Our upstairs neighbors- as nice as they are- are very noisy when walking up or down the steps and the door always slams loud and shakes the apartment. You can also hear every step they take upstairs, plus bathroom use, doors, floors creaking....basic apartment noise , however it seems amplified here. If there is a dispute between you and a neighbor and they complain about you- whether it's true and accurate or not, management doesn't investigate- they just send a letter to stop or you can be evicted. There are some inconsiderate neighbors that talk outside very loudly late at night and make other noise late which can be disruptive, so some of the neighbors are kind of inconsiderate and trashy. So, overall- it's a decent place with good maintenance staff and roomy, but can definitely be improved.
I lived in Towpath Village for a year without incident and enjoyed great neighbors, a well-maintained playground for children, clean amenities, and a nice porch overlooking the forest. After my lease term, Salem Management Company worked with me simply and easily to extend my lease on a new month-to-month contract. Several months into my new contract, I had my sliding glass door broken by a ricocheted stone from lawn maintenance. I reported the incident and somebody from the office reviewed the damage and told me that it would be fixed within the week. Despite over a month of waiting, the door was not fixed and the rental office would not return any calls inquiring into when it might be repaired. Their slow response has prevented me from using the porch that I previously enjoyed and tarnished an otherwise pleasant experience.
