The trendy neighborhood of Shaw is fast becoming one of Washington, DC’s top neighborhoods. The neighborhood is the birthplace of jazz legend Duke Ellington, and the bars and nightclubs played host to names like Ella Fitzgerald, Cab Calloway, Marvin Gaye, and Pearl Bailey. The iconic Howard Theatre still draws some of the biggest names in music.
Shaw apartments are plentiful and living here provides easy access to some of DC’s top restaurants, such as Table, Habesha, Bistro Bohem, and Azi’s Café. Shaw borders Logan Circle, another of DC’s top neighborhoods, and it is directly south of Howard University. Shaw is a very pedestrian-friendly neighborhood with easy access to two Metro stations. It is home to some of DC’s trendiest boutiques, art galleries, and markets. The increased popularity of Shaw and the high demand for housing has led to an interesting blend of historic rowhouses and sleek, modern apartment towers.

Property Ratings at Trellis House
Lived here for over a year, by the time my lease was up, I couldn't wait to leave. The building management is atrocious. The units themselves are nice, however, the walls are quite think and you can hear your upstairs neighbors do basically everything. There are so many luxury apartments in DC, find one with good management - its worth it. The positive reviews are likely from when the building was managed by a different company, I lived here during that time and it was a wonderful place to live. Resident from 2020-2021

I lived at Trellis House for a little over a year. Overall, the experience was great and the staff is extremely friendly. New management came in a few months ago and they were perfect as well. I'd highly recommend this apartment. Amenities are nice, complex is clean, and it's in a great location. Walls are a little thin but you can expect that at most apt complexes. I wish they had a larger 2 bedroom selection and I'd probably would have stayed.

Hello and thank you very much for such a great review! We really appreciate your feedback and we are so happy to hear that your residency with us was such a positive experience! Best, The Trellis House Team
I have lived here for two years (pre and during COVID) so I think I can give a fair review of the pros and cons. Overall it’s a nice building, but for the price you can get way more space in a nicer neighborhood in DC. PROS: Amenities, package service, free coffee, cold brew available for a cost, new apartments with nice finishes, a Whole Foods next door, plenty of street parking CONS: You will hear your upstairs neighbors walking (and sneezing), you can hear people in the hallways, Howard students throw parties a lot and in the common space (pre-COVID), management has changed from Bozzuto to CIM so beware of all the reviews about how great management is.

I love living here. Everyone is so friendly. The management team goes above and beyond to make sure your needs are satisfied. The concierges are amazing. Tiana is my favorite. Don’t even get me started on the amenities. You never have to leave. You have access to everything. If you’re looking for an incredible place to live, in the heart of the city, this is the place for you! It’s clean. It’s safe. It’s fun. Great for young professionals.

Hello and thank you very much for such a great review! We work very hard to make sure that we are offering the best experience. So happy to hear that Tiana and our concierge services have met up to your expectations! Best, The Trellis House Team
Flooring is built extremely poor — you can hear your neighbors. If you get into the building look at how unbalanced and poor the building was built— specially look at the area by elevators. The biggest downside is that it’s near the Howard University and it’s very loud, specially on the weekends. Third, staff, not all of them are not professional and nice. Fourth, you can find much cheaper place in other parts of DC. Now you make the decision. I do not recommend you live here! They make it sound it’s the best thing you’ve ever seen but trust me!

I only viewed this place. But if your looking for luxury in the U St Shaw area, this is it. This place is well executed. I viewed over 25 properties and this was the best one. The staff was very kind, and welcoming . You will be close to U st but far enough to have a piece of mind. The pool is not on the roof. However it is very large . It’s almost like living at a high end hotel in Miami. I do not work for and am not associated with the property. Im just joe citizen. Thus these comments are unbiased.
