Property Ratings at Troy Towers
The apartments are nice and spacious but the rent is to much every year the rent goes up I know that bloomfield don't have rent control but they don't have to raise the rent every year. The Intercom to buzz people in is broke it's been like that for months now. The elevators always break down. They need to do much better as High as the Rent is.
I've been here for a while. It's clean, the staff is wonderful, and the apartments are AWESOME. I also love that it's pet friendly!!! Highly Recomend this place!!
The hot water is CONSTANTLY broken. They fix it but it breaks again days or weeks later. Not worth the rent.
I really liked living here. The apts are spacious with plenty of storage and it's very convenient being so close to the train station and right off the GSP. You can barely hear your neighbors and the tenants are pretty nice and I've never really had problem with pests. Only had one issue that require maintenance in the four years I was here, but it was resolved quickly. New management came in and definitely did a few changes. Elevators in building B were redone, they turned the building into a no smoking building, and they changed the visitor parking hour till 10pm, but they will have to pay $10 if they stay after that. My biggest complaint is tenant parking however. If you come home after 10pm on a weekday, it will be very difficult for you to find parking, ESPECIALLY in the winter after a snow storm. It gets so bad that people will have to park alongside the curb in the no parking zones, and you will have to hope that you don't come back to a parking ticket. It's just annoying that if you are paying a monthly parking fee, you should have a guaranteed place to park when coming back home. Renovated apts can be pricey, especially for a one bedroom. I work late hours, so parking was the deal breaker for me, if I'm paying a monthly parking fee, I would prefer assigned parking so at least I know I have a spot to come home to. If you work late hours and drive, just keep that in mind. Besides that, the apartments are pretty nice.
My wife and I have been living in a 2 Bed Room apartment here for close to 3 years. We have really loved it. During this time, a lot has changes (all improvements). 1st, the new management team ( being here for the past 1.5 years) are extremely nice. Always available and help you out with any request pretty quickly. 2nd, There is a large supermarket working here for the past 2 years as well as liquor store all within 3 minutes walking distance. 3rd, The elevators have been replaced and renewed which has really resolved maybe the only issue we had with the building. The tenants are very nice and mostly quiet. The fact that all utilities are included has spoiled us a little bit with energy saving. Overall, our experience has been wonderful.
The bldg has a major issue of having beat up elevators from 70s. They are constantly down every month. Means either you would miss your train to work or be late every 15 days. Finally they have put the memo that the elevators are being replaced, which would take at least 6 long months. What a joke!!! This year the management decided to turn off the a/c when it was 90 degrees outside only because the weather got nice for a few days and some old tenant allegedly complained that it was cold. We had a full week without a/c. Top of that they do not have enough parking space. You are allowed only one space if you have one bedroom apartment. So be prepared to park your 2nd car back and forth between visitor parking and township parking lot behind Ihop. New management is the worse. Only good for posting memos. Would not recommend at all!!!!
We had an amazing time at Troy Towers. My wife and I was here for 1 year while I was doing rotations for medical school, and we really loved our apartment. Apartment: Our Junior 1 bedroom 1 bathroom was clean when we got there, the temperature was always perfect, although air conditioning and extra heating is also available. They recently installed new elevators in building B which are super convenient, and we felt really safe at all times with the security. There is a very cute garden in between building A and B and if you live on a higher floor, you get great views of the city or the park. The laundry room is on the basement, and if you avoid peak hours (sat/sun noon) then there is no problem with finding available washers and dryers, which work great. They recently have verizon fios available which is super fast if you depend on wifi like me. People: The tenants are very friendly and the building managers Frank and Anna are awesome and always ready to help us if we needed anything. The security guards are generally very friendly and people stop by to chat with them all the time. The super was prompt if we needed anything fixed, and the whole time the only issue we had was with the faucet, which was changed for us promptly. Parties: Yes, they even have parties here! Twice a year during halloween and once in the summer, they arrange get togethers for the tenants with music, food and drinks. It’s a really nice way to get to know the other tenants and the building staff. Parking: Parking is very convenient to find either during the day or night, there is always a space available. Each apartment gets 1 space outdoors, which costs an extra $25/month. And there are options to get indoor parking. There is guest parking available until 10pm, and you can pay extra to have your guest leave their car overnight. Convenience: Bloomfield is a pretty quiet and convenient town. The montclair-boonton line goes directly into the city within ~35 minutes and is perfect during peak hours. It’s a bit harder to find trains during late at night. There are buses that run along bloomfield avenue and it’s very easy to get around. There are lots of supermarkets around, and if you drive for 8 minutes you can reach super fresh, which has really great produce and prices. Overall: I loved staying here, and I definitely would have stayed longer if I didn’t have to go back to new york to finish medical school. Couldn’t recommend it more!
This current management, I think people are afraid to come out and rate them badly out of fear of repercussions. The problem of some-one who has been here a while there is something to compare management's performance. 1. There is a foul smell in the corridors. Really foul. Disgusting. Wish more neighbors would smoke or cook. 2. They installed fake surveillance cameras everywhere, including elevators. Feel like you are in a prison. Basically when you leave and when come home and when you have guests over and who your guests are, it gets recorded. 3. Elevators do not work. in building B we had only one elevator work for like 6 month and on going. This is a safety issue especially for emergencies. Elderly and sick might need EMTs, I am not even talking about fire emergency where people can not physically evacuate. 4. They like to write memos. The whole building is plastered with those memos. Usually the memos threaten police or legal action against elderly and retired. 5. Plaster is coming off the ceiling. Upkeep lacks basic supervision. (I had my place renovated last year, it needs it again, simply because the work is bad). Corridors are the same way. 6. They can't seem to make up their minds about their dog policy. It changes more often then you can tract it. 7. Heating cooling units do not work, you are not supposed to get your own yet after enough vain repair requests you give up. 8. Parking issue, there is a parking issue. Basically for what I am paying pier month, given the area and the quality I do not feel like I am getting a good deal. They turned the place into a dump. I mean to give a review this bad to a place i live in....
I had an apartment here until 3/2011. Unfortunately, I was injured and my job was not paying me and I had to move out. I can't believe some of the cry babies leaving reviews. GREAT BLDG. If you are not a chronic complainer MGT. will always get right back to you. I'll take free utilities, a great view and tons of closets for a "slightly slow" elevator. I LOVED THIS APARTMENT. Give it a look. D

Thank you for the feedback, appreciated. Be advised, New Elevators are now being installed. They are equipped with modern technology, allowing them to run much more smoothly, effeciently, and faster. This is a major upgrade to the property and we are excited for it's completion!
New management is the worse! They want to suck out every penny from you how so ever possible! If you have two cars then there is a major issue! They wont give you another parking sticker and bloomfield parking authority is not giving permits and there is a wiatlist for over a year! So parking is a major issue even there is a lot of space in the lot but management here doesnt care! I wont recommend

We do have a parking lot that must accommodate all tenants. Just like in any busy town or city in New Jersey, especially next to a Train or NJ Transit, you will have a tough time finding parking. Unlike some other aparment buildings, we have a huge advantage which includes a private parking lot, fully gated and has 24 hour security. However, we must guarantee parking spots for all new tenants. If you live in a 2 Bedroom apartment, you will the option to have 2 parking stickers. We also have a visitor parking lot which is a unique feature for this area as well. The parking fee is $25 per month and has not changed since this property has been taken over by new management. There are no hidden fees associated with parking or anything else.
Apartment is decent. You don't hear your neighbors. Rent is a decent price. Place could be kept cleaner, like the laundry room! One elevator is usually out so you wait around awhile unless you like taking stairs up and down 10 floors. Overall this place is not the worst but certainly is not the best. Could really use new ownership!!
The apartment is has a beautiful spacious kitchen, and lots and lots of closet space. The bathroom is newly renovated and is very welcoming. I also have a huge balcony. The security is great and the building overall is well kept. The standard one bedroom is a bit overpriced, even if all utilities are included, but I overlooked that because I love the place.
first of all, they consider this apartment a luxury apartment. it is by far the worst apartment I have ever lived in. Building manager is never in her office and is no help and the office hours are incorrect. no one even knows the landlords name. the elevators break down on a weekly basis, packages are left laying around, the security doesn't give much 'security'. the super in charge of fixing breaks and leaks does not speak english. every month you will get a letter under your door saying you did not pay on time and then they will charge you for it. they will also charge you for miscellaneous fees and it will take months to correct it and they will demand you pay it regardless if you are right or wrong. the air conditioning will leak during the summer and cover your entire floor with water and they will not replace it.

Troy Towers is now under new management. Our new office hours are from 10 am to 6 pm. We have new security personnel as well as a new super who do a fantastic job. All maintenance issues are taken care of within 24 hours, and our supers are on-call all night. We no longer have miscellaneous fees. New state-of-the-art elevators are now being installed, so the old issues will soon be a thing of the past, much like the previous management. We have a new leasing agent as well, who is quite impressive. She is friendly, well spoken, and has a great attitude. We will continue to work hard until all previous issues are fixed and never stop improving.
Troy Towers is awesome - great location (across from a midtown direct train station), awesome views from the balcony, nice courtyard, pet friendly, gated with a guard (we'll get to that later) and best of all UTILITIES INCLUDED! The issues I have with the building, though, aren't small–but they're also not enough to get me to move. And there's quite a few: 1) The elevators are very old, and have had lots of problems. Recently, they shudder and jump up and down at every stop. It's scary. They need to be replaced, and the management knows it, but they just haven't gotten around to it yet (I don't understand why). 2) Even though there's a guard, and even though each apartment only gets a single parking spot, it seems like there are plenty of people who don't have a parking permit (or even a fake permit. don't ask.) parked in the lot. It's incredibly difficult to find a spot. Plus, the "visitor" parking is no longer for visitors after 5pm. I don't know about you, but I generally don't have visitors UNTIL after 5pm. If you're going to have visitor parking, you shouldn't have those weird time limits. And there should, in general, be more parking. From what I hear, there's an old disused pool on the property that could be filled in and turned into a parking lot. I suggest we do that. 3) There's a bunch of urban renewal going on around us, including the building of other apartment buildings. Consequently, management is doing updates to the buildings, but it feels like they a) don't really care that much or b) don't know what they're doing. Some, like eco-friendly windows, are great. Others, like covering the basement entrance in really ugly tan rockface-looking tile, are seemingly unnecessary. Still others are done poorly–such as the "fitness center," which is basically just a room with 2 treadmills and a single dumbbell set...and it's carpeted, instead of a rubber floor. The good thing is it's only a $200 deposit to get a key, so no recurring gym membership. Also, we're smack in the middle of a park so...you know, go for a run or something instead. 4) The air conditioning system is extremely loud, at least that's what the people on the top floor say–which I believe because you can hear the low droning at all hours of the night from at least a floor or two below. 5) There's no storage. There used to be, but they got rid of it. All things considered, it's awesome here and I'm definitely planning on staying...as long as they don't hike the rent.
Awesome deal for the price! Utilities included with rent is perfect. The only down side is you're only allowed one car per unit.
Are you looking for an apartment that is close to the city, affordable, safe, and has a friendly community? Then Troy Towers is the apartment for you! If you don't mind the fact that it was built in the 70's, has only two elevators, and laundry is located in the basement. Whatlike the most are the views of the majestic Watchung Mountains and the large interlocking parks.
Loved the place. Everything included size is nice. No major issues. Place turned over alot to younger professional types. Only issue is parking and if you have guests after 5 pm they have to park on the street.
