Property Ratings at Turlington Oaks
Why would you'll be sending me a survey in reference to non repaired work?? Y'all are asking for a 1 star. Today is my 3rd day since I put my work order in with having to deal with my hallway having water under my rug, something is leaking somewhere. But you guys closed my ticket and are asking me for a review...there you go... Update 10.28.24 under new owners with a new name and everything and nothing has changed if not worse. AGAIN!! DO NOT SEND ME A REVIEW when nothing has been done to remedy my issue that states completed in the system. No notice to inform me any personnel was even in my unit (very unprofessional) just walking in someone's home not notifying or leaving notification you've been in my house and did nothing is insane!! So my carpet is still soaked from an overflowing toilet they supposedly came to look at the next day with this being my only toilet whyy isn't this priority!? I ended up fixing the toilet myself but you dont see this puddle of water sittin in my hallway?? A few months ago I was kicked out the portal for rent payment just so they could legally try and evict me due to an unpaid UTILITY BILL i had a discrepancy with with the old owners. So instead of letting me know they instead wouldn't allow me to pay my rent and put me in eviction so now i have to pay late fees and court cost for lack of communication on your end literally the very next month same thing over $8 which i paid what was on my court paperwork all to be charged a late fee again. So sick of this place my lease is up soon y'all but stay away changing the name and coloring the doors a new color doesn't change inconsistencies and unprofessionalism.
Property Manager at Turlington Oaks, Responded To This Review
Please accept our apologies for the issues you've experienced. Your feedback is important to us. Thank you for reaching out.
The apartment itself is not much to write home about. You get a solid place for the price, and any issues are fairly minor. Additionally, the community is gated in and is very pretty, and the pool is nice. What makes this place great, however, is the staff. Samantha and Duane have both been incredibly helpful throughout the process of applying and setting up my lease and have been quick to respond to all of my questions, concerns, and problems, which is why I went with renting here instead of other places in the area.
It's a pleasure to conversate with everyone in the office. The maintenance people need to finish their job they start and it takes them a long time to come fix whatever is wrong . I'm starting see ants and a couple of roaches smh.I'm thinking about moving once my lease is up.
I seen a rat in my apartment it came from upstairs ate it's way down stairs in the utility closet in the hallway.from a vacant apartment.then it got caught in the trap and broke loose I seen it it looked fighting and it saw me it ran then one in the kitchen.i sleep with the light on and shoes and a broom .I told maintenance and the leasing office but nothing is being done my grandchildren can't come over.cause of rats.its unsanitary for rats I have to keep the utility door closed and cover I told them nothing.if nothing is done here I tell them again I don't have rats in here I can't sleep in here cause I can here them walking around upstairs upstairs and in the utility closet.
They do not care about you and take advantage every chance they get. Complex is noisy with grown men hanging out day and drinking. Things that needed to fixed are not addressed. Please do yourself a favor and keep looking, anything would be better than here!!
Wasted money on making a neighborhood “gated” that desperately needs cleaning, renovating, and a decent trash area for each section. Halfway through my lease they decide to put a gate in the entrance, delaying all traffic in and out the neighborhood just so they can increase rent for new leases. Instead of RENOVATING, fixing potholes, getting the dumpster area fixed so people don’t have to walk all the way to the back or put trash in their car. Office staff never knows what’s going on, doesn’t respond to emails, maintenance never fixes anything. My rent constantly changes every month
Do not move here. Management is Terrible, sit in the office doing nothing all day. I’ve been emailing about charges I’m unsure about for months because I can’t get into the office due to work hours. Emails are Constantly ignored. I’ve been trying to get my hot water fixed since I moved in. Maintenance doesn’t fix anything or takes months to do things. Instead of fixing my drain and replacing it, it was just taken out so now I have a drainless shower with only warm water
MS. Rochelle will not only give you the shirt off her back she is the One and only reason I moved to this property in the first place very helpful attentive and helped me understand that the property was in a transition and to just give it a chance as she has the heart and will power to get the Excercise room straight but to overall do a makeover as the resources come available to make Newport Commons a loveable community to live in once again in Newport News. And I thank her for it and have no regrets in being here..Shout out to ROCHELLE !!!
When I had any complaints, the staff was always responsive and understanding.
This place and the people who run it is an absolute nightmare. Bug infestation even though they have a monthly charge for pest control. They tell you your security deposit is non refundable AFTER you sign the lease. Maintenance DOES NOT FIX ANYTHING & the apartment acts like they don’t have to do anything other than collect your money.
I would not recommend full of roaches never fixes anything from the time I lived here to the time I left my toilet was rocky and my dishwasher wasn’t working
Rat infestation. Roach infestation. AC never worked. Management lies a lot and could care less about your issues. Generally a nasty place to live. Do not move here.
This place has been the worse experience by far for me and my son! If you have nowhere to go this still isn’t the place to stay!!! I haven’t had a stove in a month!!! The wiring here sucks and they can care less! Wanna call emergency maintenance? FORGET IT THEY STILL WONT COME!!! Maintenance looks stressed like they don’t know what’s going on. Your rent doesn’t stay the same! Every month is a new amount as well as when u renew. They split your wanter usage with other tenants in your building so your paying double what u would if it were just you. The roaches, and ants are horrible!!!! You cannot rid them! I am very clean and I still see a lot of bugs in my house. Cut on the kitchen light if you want to and watch one attack you. You ever seen a roach that jumps off the counter top?? Yeah me neither until I moved here! They claim u don’t pay rent when you do and they not for the tenants!!!! Please I beg you do not live here. My bathroom has mold and the paint I’m pulling out the tub they painted over! Have a lawyer on speed dial cause you gone need it!
By far the worse place, I’ve ever lived. I’d much rather be homeless. I lived here for about 5months in mid 2018. I had to deal with a roach infestation, ants, and spiders. I ended up with an infected spider bite and on big toe. It was so bad i had to wear a boot in order to walk without pain. Still they did nothing about the infestations. I had roaches breeding in my Keruig and deep freezer. Every time i used the stove the roaches would come out with their own plates and forks. Rats roamed the dumpster because they picked up like once every 2 weeks. When had about 20 flies on the hallway before you’d enter your apartment because my neighbors kids would throw food out there on the floor and when they moved out it took maintenance almost a month to clean out there apartment. The a/c never worked, maintenance brought out a window unit in that was not secure and wires running through out a bedroom and hallway to the hvac closet. Exhausted all options and still never got a solution, my grandmother ended up passing out when the apartment reached 95 degrees and when i went to the office later that morning they had maintenance bring us a floor ac for the living room. The ac only worked for 2 week the whole time i lived here. There was always shooting, someone got killed in there apartment while i lived here. Grown men hung out at the pool while nothing but children where using it. Never no place to park because neighbors would throw parties all night. The head office manager was just rude when i spoke to her about my apartment issues or she would never be in the office or she didn’t have time to speak with residents. Carpet wasn’t properly attached to the floor. Someone had to remain in the house at all times or you’d be locked out because the door knob would seem locked. They never did a move in walk through and they never did anything in regards to my move in check list. I wouldn’t wish this place on my worst enemy no matter how affordable the rent seems it’s not worth the headache or credit damages. If you do decide to move here buy a hazmat suit, dehumidifier, humidifier, your own terminator team, a window unit for each room, and a lawyer. Truly deserving of zero stars, several lawsuits, and to be shut down then torn down.
These apartments have received a bad reputation over the years but I can honestly say that since living here I haven't had any issues. Management doesn’t give me any issues nor do my neighbors. I feel like for what I pay I cant complain
This apartment complex is sad very sad the apartment I originally applied for was NOT what I was given !!! I asked them what happened to the washer and dryer that was on the lease and they demanded more money ! The apartment was NOT renovated like I originally saw the tub was filthy the dishwasher the stove was all filthy the only thing that was renovated was the countertops I’m glad I moved from here ! Also the bugs are TERRIBLE water bugs spiders ants everywhere and flies my apartment was full of flies I called and complained they said that they would go in the apartment with they never did because I had a camera set up in there they then continued to tell me the exterminator comes on thursdays so I waited just for them to tell me they don’t go inside the apartment to spray just around the perimeter of the complex’s ! They don’t have a Dropbox so you can leave them the keys or money order for rent they don’t have cameras my car was broken into and someone from maintenance took my 300$ speaker this was just a terrible year and horrible place don’t rent here also THEY NEVER ANSWER THE PHONE !
I was deceived by Newport Commons there’s no nice way to put it. After being promised that I would have a nature facing unit I was lied to plain and simple. Call it a mistake? This is where I was going to pay good money to be my home! On fist visit I was told of one unit facing nature. I walked over ,and although it was occupied, I could see the breezeway balcony and what it faced. I gave them the required $300 deposit and when I went to revisit the actual unit , after it was vacated even the floor plan was reversed. Not only was it not a view of the rails to trails walking path , it was a view of the parking lot. I respectfully asked Michelle for my deposit back and she said no. I explained to both her and the manager Jason that I didn’t think it was right since it essentially was NOT the unit I was led to believe it was. Jason did offer to let us move if one like it became vacant even if it was against policy. It assent like all I was bringing was my toothbrush. The place is nice I will give them that, but their business ethic leaves a lot to be desired. I suppose my $300 will take them far . I’m an honest hard working man who still believes , foolishly I suppose, that a handshake is a mans word to make good on a deal or promise. I’m I saddened by this as now I must put another deposit on a place that hopefully wouldn’t lie to me. Looks like you can believe the reviews . I gave them the benefit of the doubt and got nothing in return. If someone in higher authority ever reads this ,and believes in good business , and returned my deposit I would be happy to amend or remove this review. By the way, I didn’t back out the day of move in or even two weeks before . It was a month before I was to move in. I still wonder if anyone reads these reviews but I do and I didn’t listen. I gave the benefit of the doubt and Boyd decided that the $300 was worth more than the good will. I’m 63 and retired and I guess I still believe that there are ethical business. Fool me once!
I’ve lived in the community for 3 months an I must say it’s a wonderful quiet neighborhood! The leasing consultant Anthony is wonderful very professional! You’ll see him out in the community conversing with the residents and playing catch with the kids. He does so much for the community and you can tell he cares. Newport Commons is an overall wonderful community!
hundred and sixty something days and they very well knew that there were bugs in here before they move me in this is got to be the worst place I've ever lived.... They tell you lies don't let you see the apartment tell you to pay for more stuff if you want better I... All my stuff is ruined my TV my couch my bed my clothes a brand new couch all my dishware thousands of dollars worth of stuff
Roach infested. Poor maintenance. Horrible payment records. Washer & dryers are added on through a different company, washer hooks up to the sink. Just terrible.
I live here now. my fiance and I moved in here about 5 months... What I can say about this apartment and the maintenance is poor. they do half jobs that is if they come Everything Is Broken. when I first moved in I told him about the problem that I had with my door... I'm like okay it's just a door stuff happens you know. but after the first day I'm like this is a safety hazard so I called them... No answer. so I put an emergency call I talk to the guy who's okay will be there as soon as possible... can you believe they still did not come? after week they finally came. then of course something ... tub stopped up and I had to go to work in an hour so I asked him can someone please fix it because I need to take a shower in my sink is filling up with black stuff and I needed that fixed too of course no one came. so now everytime I call no one answers I'm not getting anything fixed and this has been the worst experience ever and this is my first apartment. So I'm not going to continue my lease and I don't encourage anyone else to do so after my lease is up I'm going to find me a new apartment that's why I'm back on this site LOL. hopefully I'll get a better apartment
My friend Shelby that is currently staying here with her husband and their 2 kids, a 3 month old and a 1 year old. Her family has been without Air Condition since April of this year. They have made numerous attempts in contacting management to have their AC fixed. Since April, the management office has had their maintenance team come out to fix the problem and it was not resolved. They also had someone from corporate come out a few days ago to fix the problem and it was still not resolved. They had addressed to the management office of they could switch to another apartment that has AC and was told they would need to pay a move fee of $300. This is not right and unfair to this family
I put my deposit down for 3bdr and was told I was getting new cabinet and counter top. Never happened! Place wasn't ready. I moved 5 times before moving in due to place not ready to move in. Once I finally was given keys to look at what was finally ready, roaches in the refrigerator, dishwasher, cabinets and walls. Can you say roach motel!!!! Cabinets were old and chipped. My son said, "mom I can't do this". Got my deposit back and got away from that place. Contacted corporate, never received a return call when a message was left for my issue of property not being ready. The worst experience.
I have lived here for a little less than 5 years, in the beginning there was the occasional bug problem but nothing major. Within the first year I had a continuous plumbing problem that resulted in raw sewage backing up into the bathtub. I had the A/C go out in the middle of the summer multiple times and it would go unfixed for days at a time. Office staff changes all of the time and I have had 2 homicides in the complex since I moved in. I would not suggest anyone move in this place until the entire complex is entirely vacated, fumigated and then re-rented to a better class of tenants.
I love my apartment I never really have to worry about any problems nice and quiet. Plus I stay above the rental office which makes it even more beautiful.
I give my apartment complex 3 stars for trying. Over the two years that I have lived there they have been trying to better the surrounding environment and its getting better. With the right people as residents they are sure to be an there way.
I have lived at Newport Commons for two years and because of financial difficulties I just signed up for another year. The apartment complex is very old. When you turn on the water dirt comes out-according to the property manager it is because roots of trees have cracked the underground pipes. The cabinets are in terrible shape, the plumbing is terrible, the carpet is stained from a water leak (hot water heater) that was not handled correctly. There was a man murdered around the corner last month and a peeping tom spotted the month before. My daughter was punched in the nose by another tenant for no reason in the pool a few weeks ago.
