Property Ratings at Tysons Glen Apartments and Townhomes
1. We were deceived to this place when we were in midwest. We were told the unit is quiet. But from the day we moved in, we had to deal with constant and high level of noise from hwy 495, 24/7, EVEN WHEN the windows are completely shut overnight when we slept. We complained to the landlord many times, and we notified them that we wanted to move out through an attorney's letter. The landlord insisted that we have to pay them about $6000 penalty if we move before the lease expires but we can move to a quieter unit free of transfer fee ($700 otherwise). When I finally found a quieter and same sized apartment in the same neighborhood, I called the staff who deceived us about the noise level of our current unit for a transfer. But, (1)She doesn't honor the renewal increase in our current unit (on the electronic lease) of about 6.5% rent increase for current tenants, and instead she wants us to pay about 21% increase for prospective tenants. (2) She doesn't honor upper management's offer of free transfer fee and insists that everyone has to pay $700 to transfer no matter what. (3) Moreover, she insists that every unit has to be painted all over though I request not to due to my pregnancy. Then, I immediately told her that it's impossible to work with them, I will not seek transfer anymore, and I will not renew the lease. But when I inquired about how to get the security deposit back at a later time point, they pretended that they never knew that we will not renew the lease, and they insisted that we owe them $5000/month for auto-renewal, which is twice as much as one month of renewal monthly rent. If you are lucky enough to find a quieter unit with them, be aware that their lease term may increase overtime. For our case, 13 months for the first year, 14 months for the renewal. 2. Due to the recent significant rent hike for current tenants and even higher rent hike for prospective tenants, the vacancy rate in the neighborhood shoots up since May 2022. But even before that, the move-out rate seems really high. We moved in July 2021. There are four units on each floor and all three neighbors on our level moved out in 6 months or so after we moved in. 3. When the power went out for two days in August 2021, we had to book hotel stays because there’s no lights in the hallway. The landlord calls the apartment complex luxury but they are too frugal to put emergency lights in the hallway at nights when power was out and it was completely dark.

Thanks for this thorough feedback and for letting us know that you had some negative experiences here at Tysons Glen Apartments and Townhomes last year. We regret to hear this and trust your concerns have been resolved, but if not, please do not hesitate to let us know at (866) 206-5464.
I remotely rented this apartment 2 years ago while I was in different state, my friend recommended me this place. When I first moving in, I drove from a state thousands miles away, Angelique stayed after hour to sign me in, so that I did not have to stay in hotel. This property is clean and well maintained, since I moved in they upgrade windows and balcony rail. The last building I lived (south of Mohegan drive) is well designed, I can barely hear any noise from neighbors. Maintain issues usually are promptly addressed. Staff are friendly, property manager Angelique is nice and very helpful. One of my tax document was delivered to my old address after I moved out, they held it for me and called me a couple of times to notify me. One thing not ideal is that AC units outside of building are loud.

DO NOT RECOMMEND. management is bad. this place is a money trap. they don't do what is listed in their advertisement. Go to another place than this place.
stay away from this place. worst place to stay. the admin is very bad. they just care about your money and that's all.
The only reason we stay here is because they have a great pet policy since only a few apartments allow dogs over 50 lb . The people working at the leasing office are rude, have ZERO empathy, ZERO customer service, and an arrogant attitude. They never recognize their mistakes. Every time we have a problem, it's a nightmare going to that office. They do not care about the tenants. Additionally: Since we moved in they told us that the gym will be "upgraded", a year and a half later that hasn't happened yet. The dog park receives ZERO maintenance, it's more deteriorated with every season. We can hear loud noises from the neighbor living above us, in the middle of the night or at 3 am. This past summer the pool wasn't cleaned properly, it was dirty all the season. Plus, we have experienced many power outages. NEVER use their website for automatic payment, for us it didn't work once, and they didn't let us know until we got a lawyer letter for eviction, they don't manage those issues properly. Positive side: beautiful people live here, it's a very friendly neighborhood with a strong dog community. The green areas are regularly taken care of by contractors, and cleaning service cleans the building every other day. The layout of the apartment is fair and the price of the rent is similar to others in the area. In summary, many people are living here because there is no other choice at the moment or they are thinking to move in the next opportunity they can. A recommendation would be to change the management of this place, they are ruining this complex. It could be a wonderful place to live.

They steal your rent, your stuff, barge into your home with no warning, and have the gall to tell you you're at fault
Property Manager at Tysons Glen Apartments and Townhomes, Responded To This Review
Dear Resident, Thank you for choosing Tysons Glen. We take pride in our customer satisfaction awards and do our best to provide the most comfortable living experience for our residents. We apologize for any unannounced entries that may have occurred due to maintenance requests and take your concerns seriously. We promise to look into this further but can assure you that we are not in the business of stealing rent or belongings of residents. Should you have any questions or would like to discuss this further, please contact us to speak with a manager. Sincerely, Tysons Glen Apartments Management – 703-893-7771
License tags recently expired on my car (I am paying tenant with a valid parking pass), I didn't notice, and they towed me from the parking lot overnight with no warning or indication after the fact. I had to call the local police to figure out what happened to my car because I honestly thought it was stolen and management wouldn't answer my call. A single phone call letting me know about my tags would have been sufficient, but I guess they care about immediate money more than the longevity of their tenants. Definitely will not renew and will always recommend against this place.
Property Manager at Tysons Glen Apartments and Townhomes, Responded To This Review
Dear Resident, We understand your frustrations and are saddened to know that you feel this way. We hope you understand that certain occurrences are out of our control and regulated by local authorities. We do not have the authority to overturn a towing incident when the reasoning is directly related to state law violations. This is why we advise that all vehicle owners maintain current tags and inspection stickers to avoid any consequences. This is outlined in our leasing agreements and communicated to residents during the move-in process. We hope you understand and ask that you contact us if you have any questions. Sincerely, Tysons Glen Apartments Management – 703-893-7771
I have been living in an apartment at Tysons Glen for about a year and a half - and there is not much to complain about. Working in the property management industry myself, I'm impressed with how they operate. The office and maintenance staff are friendly, professional, and responsive. The grounds are very nicely kept and they are always making improvements to enhance the overall image of the property. What I appreciate most about living here is the value I get for what I pay. Factoring in the location and amenities, you can't beat the price. With a pool, gym, car wash station, dog park, metro shuttle, computer lab, and grills/picnic area, there's not much more you could ask for. The apartment homes vary in levels of renovation, so it's easy to find an apartment that fits your price range. I personally live in a unit that is not fully renovated with all the bells and whistles, however I am still pleased with the appearance. If I had to find one fault with the community, it would be the streets/parking. With parking spaces full, it can get tight and difficult to maneuver around in some areas of the property. This is a small issue though and would not have any effect on my decision to renew my lease. I hope to continue to live here for many years to come.

Although this complex is right off Leesburg Pike,in between 66 and 495, it is set back far enough to be reasonably quiet. Trader Joe's is down the street, as is Whole Foods. Having the high school around the corner means exit and entry has to be planned strategically around school arrival and dismissal times to avoid that traffic jam. The apartments are well-maintained, although when you first move in you should do a thorough inspection. When we first moved in there were multiple issues and some major repairs needed resulting from preparing the apartment for our arrival (putting in new appliances they cracked all the kitchen tiles). We had to be persistent about getting those repairs handled, and this has consistently been the case with major repairs. We had a flood in our kitchen (the sink next door backed up) and while they came to the apartment at 9pm to clean up all the water, it was another couple weeks before they came back to check the subfloor for water damage (which was under the cracked tiles). We had a pipe leaking in the walls and while they were very quick to stop the leak and remove the wet drywall, it took another week and a half for them to replace the drywall and paint. The maintenance staff are very courteous and do thorough work - the problem is that too many jobs are scheduled at one time and this causes a delay in some of the repairs. You can hear music or the tv in other apartments at times, but not consistently, and most residents are very responsive when you let them know about the volume. The grounds and the pool are nicely maintained. There is a very small "fitness center" - two treadmills, one elliptical, one stair stepper and a weight machine. There is a shuttle to the metro so if you commute by public transit it's a good location. Some of the apartments back up to the trees at the back of the property and those are the most quiet - minimal noise from the playground, car alarms, etc. Apartments have in-unit washer/dryers which is very convenient. There are good-sized balconies, large enough to be used as outdoor entertaining space. Tysons Glen works for our needs and we plan on staying for a while. The positives outweigh the challenges.

I agree with other reviews - this place is very noisy; insulation between units is non-existent. The neighbors above walk around a lot and the floor squeaks constantly. The neighbors below like to argue and play loud video games/watch loud movies especially late at night (ie favorite times between 11p-2a). The entry doors are heavy (a plus), but slam constantly (a negative). Also, they did not have the actual unit available to show me when I needed to submit an application to hold the type of apartment I wanted (my mistake for agreeing to something I couldn't actually see, but this was a common occurrence at many places I looked). They neglected to mention the hideous in-wall hamper that takes up space in an already small bathroom; when sitting on the toilet, my leg is against the hamper and the toilet-paper roll (I'm an average sized person). The plus is at least they repaint and clean/change the carpets between tenants. Everyone in the office is nice, but as others have mentioned, aren't always the most informative/knowledgeable.
I lived in Tysons Glen for 3 years. It had it's good and bad points. The unit itself was spacious and it was great having a W/D to yourself. It's a very pet friendly area, esp for dogs with the dog park. We enjoyed having a porch sitting area to enjoy the nice weather. There's also a big pool and BBQ area for summer. The gym could use some work, there's barely much there but it's better than nothing I suppose. The community is made up of a lot of families with young children so we were frequently woken up early on weekends to kids yelling outside. There were several times kids would try to play ball in the parking lot and would hit cars in the process. The walls are also pretty thin and you can hear people in the unit next to you. Maintenance always took several days to be completed whether it was something small or larger. All the staff was very friendly, though the office staff did not usually have correct answers to questions we had. I would recommended working directly through the PM Josh, he was wonderful and knowledgeable. It's a good location if you need to use 495 or 66 or get to the metro, although the metro is not walking distance.

I lived in Tyson Glen for one year and it was a nightmare! They tricked me by showing an apartment that was like a model apartment and was very clean. However they gave me an apartment on first floor where it smelled like a damp basement. I had also problem with cockroaches. I requested several times to exterminate the bugs and finally when they did the bugs came back after few weeks! Another big problem was the noises from adjacent apartments in the building especially during the night that made my four year old child to wake up in the middle of the night. I dont know how they got away to build these defective apartments with no sound proof!! I do not recommend to live in Tyson Glen at all.
