Uptown Pittsburgh, also known as The Bluff, is a 1.5-mile stretch of land between Downtown and Oakland, two well-known neighborhoods in the city. Situated along Monongahela River with convenient access to major interstates like US-30, residents have quick and easy access to major commercial districts, such as Downtown Pittsburgh. So close, in fact, you could probably walk to work!
Duquesne University covers the majority of the west section of the neighborhood, making Uptown a great option for both potential students and faculty. Residents have many options for schooling, including the Pittsburgh Public School District, a highly rated district for such an urban area.
Uptown has its own commercial district that mainly centers around the university, with many residential rowhouses lining nearby streets. The quaint streets of Uptown offer a sense of rich charm and history with an eclectic culture.

Property Ratings at Union on 5th Avenue
I lived in Union on 5th for two years during my junior and senior year at Duquesne University and I absolutely loved it. The close proximity to school and also to downtown Pittsburgh was perfect. The apartment units were modern, beautiful, and spacious. I'd highly recommend!
While the inside of the building may be beautiful and the units are certainly newly remodeled, I would advise against living here. The walls are paper thin, I'm talking thinner than paper thin, as are the floors and ceilings. You'll hear everything that every unit surrounding you is doing at every hour of the day. From the desk in the bedroom, I can hear casual conversation in the bedroom in the apartment next to mine on the other side of my wall. The floors are beautiful hardwood, but the reverberating foot stomps you'll hear from the unit above you will never be easy to ignore. Apartment management is non-existent. The property owner manages the building from across the country, and while there is a property manager on-site, management fails to take care of problems in a timely manner - or at all. There seems to be no supervision or implementation of rules in the building. Noise complaints go un-resolved, dumpsters remain un-emptied and trash piles up outside of the building on the daily, and email and phone call inquiries go unanswered. The provided appliances are up-to-date and modern, but the condition of them upon move-in can be concerning to say the least. After the tenants before me moved out, there was clearly no inspection or cleaning of this apartment before my scheduled move-in date. I walked in to filthy floors, trash in the dressers, food caked to the inside of the microwave, stove, and fridge, lint overflowing in the dryer, floors so filthy they made my feet and socks black, hair and dust balls in all of the floor corners, chipped paint and damaged walls, my list goes on... My bottom line here is upon touring, I fell in love with this building. The units are so beautiful, the beds are comfortable, and the appliances are all new and nice, but unfortunately, the benefits do not come anywhere near outweighing the downfalls of living here.
