Historic red brick architecture and modern glass skyscrapers share the streets of downtown Hartford, also known as the Insurance Capitol of the World. Downtown has experienced something of a resurgence, adding new restaurants and almost doubling its residential population, while a comprehensive local bus system services the entire metro area. Residents crowd the streets running errands and walking dogs, and thousands turn up every summer to hear Hartford's old vanguard of jazz musicians play in Bushnell Park, the oldest public park in the United States.

Property Ratings at Union Place Apartments
I lived here twice, for about 5 years in total. Union Place offers comfortable, stylish apartments at a relatively low price. It's within easy walking distance of beautiful Bushnell Park, restaurants, bars, Union Station, and more. The apartments themselves feature brick walls, high ceilings, exposed wood beams, and tall windows that always impressed my friends. The appliances and building amenities aren't the greatest, but they're perfectly reasonable for the low rent. On top of all that, the community and staff were all lovely the entire time. I recommend this place!
i rented a studio for a year and it was amazing. Staff were amazing and quick to answer and fix anything. I always saw staff on site and if I brought up an issue I was having (ex a broken knob) they would immediately fix it. It is extremely good quality for the price. Such a unique style and original building, there aren’t enough pictures to show how cool the layout is in the apartments, it has a really city feel and even though it is close to the train station, my window was facing the trains/union st, the sound didn’t bother me at night, there are rarely any trains at night (but when there are it’s usually late and sometimes you can hear squeaks bc the trains go slow) but I recommend maybe a white noise machine at night or a fan. Trains are more active during the day and i honestly didn’t mind the noise of the bell of the train it was cool. It was a secure building because you needed 2 keys to 1 enter the building and 2 use the elevator and stairwells that had a locked door going outside and a locked door to each floor
Me and my boyfriend just move in this week, and honestly have nothing but positive things to say about my place. The property manager Lisa, made the move in smooth and answer any questions that me and my boyfriend has regarding anything. The high ceilings is super cute, and my apartment was clean when moving in.
Both the management team and the maintenance team are incredibly helpful! Great experience during my 2 years.
Never have I experienced a person carry the most out dated and lowest level of business etiquette. If your place wasn’t vacuumed or the stove not cleaned prior to handing in the key expect to be charged for each thing even if you offer to do it while standing there. This lady even tried to use her assistant to charge me for the last six days as if the lease wouldn’t cover it from date to date! the nerve no one has ever done that! Some people are just out of touch! FYI it’s a fire hazard to have each floor locked and you only have access to one floor you live on. Someone alert the warden will ya! There are so many keys it’s ridiculous you will be charged for each of those as well the typical gouging rate for key duplication. The building is empty because the word is out on the street! if you want to work with one of the most outdated people on the planet this is your place so pull out a check book to avoid fees! Never again people! the no credit check should have been the dead give away!
I am so pleased to chose to live at union place. I am in a rotational program for work, and needed to find a place with 3 weeks notice. I rented an apartment just based on phone conversations with Lisa (who is a rockstar by the way!!). I’m so happy I chose them! The apartment is not remodeled but the high ceilings and exposed bricks made them super cute. The most important thing is that the apartments are super clean, and very well managed. I sincerely recommend!!
This place was so perfect! I lived in a studio apartment for 2 years. Lisa and the rest of the management was very accommodating and responded to requests almost immediately. The houses were very comfortable to live in. These apartments are uniquely designed. The brick walls are to die for! They add so much value to the space. The kitchen and bathrooms are very spacious for a studio. My whole experience was very pleasant and I was sad leaving the place. I would 100% recommend this place. Shout out to George for all the maintenance help! Please go check it out and you will not be sorry!
I enjoyed my time at Union Place - for the price and location, it can’t be beat. The apartments are spacious and, at least mine was, very quiet. I never had to complain about noisy neighbors and even living right against the street, never had any problem with rowdy street-goers. Lisa and Jorge were always responsive and took care of any emergencies I may have had. You even get a flat deduction on your rent for monthly parking costs as long as you show receipts. Overall, definitely recommend!
The only reason that we're moving out of the Union Place Apartments after 3 great years is an out-of-state employment opportunity. You're not going to find a better looking (exposed brick, high ceilings, big windows) or more affordable option in the downtown area. Lisa, Jorge, and their team were friendly, present, and prompt in addressing any concerns. '10' out of '10', we recommend!
As a former resident at the Union Place Apartments, I had an EXCELLENT experience all around! The property management staff is polite, professional and responsive! If you’re looking for a homey feel with beautiful exposed brick and a downtown loft experience, look no further Union Place is your BEST option! The only question you should be asking yourself is why haven’t you signed a lease sooner!
The apartment is a very good value for what you get. If you're in one of the bigger units like I was, you get a loft size apartment with a large storage area up above the bedroom. It's kinda like a big studio but there's a large wall that separates the bedroom from the living room (it's about 9 feet high under the 15 foot ceilings. There are also 2 large tall windows that add to the sense of scale of the apartment. There are brick walls facing out and wood panel open 15 ft ceilings. It feels very big for the area. Another nice thing is that you need 3 different keys in order to get into your apartment. It's pretty secure. The lady that works in the main office is very friendly and both of the maintenance guys are too. She was willing to work with me when I had awkward situations with my lease. All in all, I loved my apartment when I lived in Connecticut (it was the best part of having to live in that state for 3 years).
Union place is a great place to live in downtown Hartford! The apartments are beautiful and spacious! The management is very kind and very responsive to any issue you might have. I placed a call one morning about an issue with my water heater. It was not only assessed but also replaced before I got home from work that same day! I would recommend union place to anyone looking to move to downtown Hartford!
74 Union Place was my home for 3 years and I only left due to being relocated. I loved this apartment. It's like a NYC Loft that I could never afford. The one bedroom apartment i had was BIG! The staff is very very attentive, polite and kind. Located in downtown Hartford, it is conveniently located near all major freeways. The fact that all the amenities are included and several parking options close by this is a steal for anyone and stylish for the most finicky. I highly recommend this location if you are looking for a place in the Hartford area. I will certainly miss it.
I loved living in the heart of downtown! My studio apartment was a great space, cool look with the brick and no doubt impressive with those giant windows! Lisa was always quick and efficient with any of my apartment related needs. Can’t beat this location!
I will always miss living in this amazing building. The exposed-brick and the spacious, multi-tiered floor plan made for such an unbelievable place to live, but that has nothing on how well-managed the building is. From the leasing office to the maintenance staff, they are all incredibly friendly and provide a higher level of service than any other place I've lived. Convenient to Bushnell Park, Union Station, and the rest of Downtown Hartford and Asylum Hill, you will not find a better value in the city, nor will you find a building with more character. You can't go wrong.
I stayed in the one bedroom, one bathroom apartment and it was lovely. Very comfortable living with new carpet, large windows and high ceilings. Temperature control is super nice, strong AC for the hot and humid summers and a nice heating system to keep the apartment at a comfortable temperature. Windows are large and it does make the rooms a bit colder near them, but the heating system does a nice job trying to recover the lost heat. The space is very open and the location is great. Right next to the the Union Place train station that can take you into NYC or up to Boston, along with being around the corner from the main bars in downtown Hartford and down the street from some of the popular places to eat in downtown. Parking is relatively cheap to stay in one of the nearby lots, and there is also a rent reduction for paying for parking which is nice. There are many nearby lots so carrying groceries was not too bad. The building also has an elevator and keeps the hallways very warm or cool depending on the season. I also worked out of Windsor, so driving out of Hartford in the morning and into Hartford in the evening meant traffic was not as bad as the vice. Overall had a great stay and would recommend to anyone living or working in the area!
Studio Apartment is a nice size and features a loft style living setup. The windows could use some updates as the cold winters in Connecticut brought the cold air into my apartment. The appliances are standard which reflects the slightly lower rent per month compared to other apartments in the area with many upgrades. One caution to advise of is the noise that comes from the nightclub that sits below the apartment facility. It feels like any day of the week you could hear loud music playing, people on the streets letting out of the club, and the police yelling at the people as they make their way out of the area. Management is nice and very helpful in the event anything needs to be fixed in your unit. There is also a rent reduction if you park in a lot or garage that has partnered with Union Place.
