In a downtown district where every corner scene belongs on a postcard, Market West manages to stand out. With a strong sense of self and a collaborative community, the neighborhood exudes a distinctive character that doesn’t compete with, but complements, the neighboring historic Old Market.
Together, both neighborhoods create the western-most portion of Downtown Omaha. This centralized location blossoms with opportunities for residential communities and commercial businesses, as well as civic and nonprofit organizations. Renovated brick buildings line original cobblestone alleys, containing rentals situated alongside diverse neighbors like a family-run grocery store, international development foundation, architectural firm, and the Omaha Symphony offices.
Perhaps this collection of professional establishments, anchored to the neighborhood under posh lofts and upscale apartments, defines Market West more than anything else.

Property Ratings at Union Plaza
I will start with what kept me from giving this place 5 stars; it isn’t fancy. Maybe even a bit dingy. However, it’s fine. Dated, but fine. We appreciated the building management and maintenance, as well as the other tenants. There is a real eclectic group of people that call Union Plaza home. Families, young artists, working professionals, and even older folks. We were a part of the “young professional” crowd but loved crossing paths with all our neighbors. Union Plaza also has THE BEST pet policy. No breed restrictions, but they also don’t let “problem dogs” stay. We have a husky and couldn’t find anywhere that would let us live there with him which is a complete deal breaker for our family. He did great in our 1 and 2 bedroom apartments there. The location is also awesome. You’re downtown without, but without all the commotion. The police station, major bus stop, and the jail across the street cause some ruckus every once in a whole but it’s more entertaining than it is annoying most of the time. All this to say, I’d live there again and would recommend it to anyone considering it.
The entire building is in need of more maintenance. From the moment you reach the floors your reminded of an old las vegas strip hotel. If you never been to Vegas close your eyes and have a friend put an ashtray in front of your nose. I did a site visit and was quickly turned off. The apartments are big enough, if you don't care about modern appliances this place is for you.
