Property Ratings at Union
I moved into The Union two weeks ahead of the 2020 pandemic. With the occasional unsanitary mishaps by pet owners, it has been an exemplary experience thus far - with one troubling exception with utility billing.
Property Manager at Union, Responded To This Review
Harry, your comfort and satisfaction are paramount to us, and we are delighted your overall experience has been remarkable. We'd love to assist you with any lingering concerns about utility billing. Will you please reach out to theunion@legacypartners.com? Thank you.
I really enjoy living at the Union. I love how close it is to everything! Such a great central location. All public transit is easily accessible

Storm, our community's convenience for residents can't be beaten, and we are thrilled to see your happiness with your home and our prime location. Thank you!
Everyone has been friendly and polite. The soundproofing is great, and I love the convenience of being right by the MAX red, blue and green lines, as well as many bus lines, and the A and B Loops. We're also within walking distance of several restaurants, a couple of Starbucks cafés, and several hotels. The building and surrounding areas are typically clean, and it's nice to have an "at-home" gym. I love it all!

Natasha, we love providing you with such a superlative experience. We appreciate your praise for our peaceful surroundings, great location, and commitment to cleanliness.
I just moved in but so far I love it! My move-in special was great, and I love the apartment. I also like that, they did not charge me to apply until I signed my lease. They answered all of my questions as well.

I love living here so far. Friendly community. I love the walking distance to places and the access to public transportation. I also like how close we are to the Moda Center.

Rafael, we're pleased that your experience has been so satisfying, as your comfort is paramount to us! We are glad our convenient location and welcoming atmosphere stand out. Thank you for choosing our community as your home.
Neighborhood is unfortunately being overrun with homeless that like to linger around and even sometimes in the building… Echelon Security is useless.
So far everyone has been really friendly and I am looking forward to getting to know more of my neighbors. It seems like there is a good community at the Union.

Love the on-site parking, units are very quiet, and proximity to max stations is super convenient. Trash/recycling on each floor makes trash trips simple. Overall nice building.

Amber, knowing that our community is a great match for you is music to our ears! Thank you for praising our ample parking, peaceful surroundings, great location, and convenient trash and recycling.
Everyone in the office was friendly and helpful. I haven't been here too long, but the people I have met here are pretty nice. Any issue I've had was dealt with promptly and with care. I enjoy the exercise room, but I'm a little disappointed that I am unable to use the wifi in the community room. I liked the idea of being able to work outside of my apartment. Overall, my experience has been great.

I have lived here over a year and still only have good things to say about this place. The staff continue to be lovely. The beautiful modern apartment it’s self. 3 min away from downtown. What’s not to love.

Lisa, thank you for sharing your affection for our community. We love to hear from happy residents, so reading your review of our hardworking team has brightened our day. Please let us know if there is anything else we may do for you.
I typically enjoy living here. It's a very central location with access to many different bus stops and MAX stations. That's useful to someone like me who doesn't have a car.
Property Manager at Union, Responded To This Review
Storm, that's fantastic to hear! We're happy our central location works well for you! Thank you for sharing your experience and we hope you continue to have a fantastic time here in our community!
it's been almost 11 months and counting, so far so good, but as it is in every human endeavour there is always room for improvement. The community has been a peaceful one, where you always look back to returning after being out there. What can we do better, there should be more awareness engagement with pet owners. with regards to their responsibility to their pets in and around the apartment building, as it concerns waste management and disposal, general conduct, overall lovely companions to have around. It will be of great value to the complex and occupants if a thought can be given to the gym in terms of expansion, the present space allocated to the gym is stifling, a complex as this deserves more and can offer more. Overall it has been a lovely experience to date;
Property Manager at Union, Responded To This Review
Thank you for being a valued resident of our community for more than a decade, Anthony. Your feedback shows us that we may improve pet waste upkeep and expand our amenities, and we appreciate your suggestions. We are happy that otherwise you have had a lovely experience, and we look forward to having you here for many years to come.
Office staff is amazing! Location is great. Beautiful apartment unit with washer and dryer. I love the sliding door to the bedroom and the closet is massive. Nice to be able to walk out the door and hop on the max. No need to use my car anymore.

Christian, thank you for sharing your honest thoughts with us about our friendly team and pristine community. We are delighted to know that we have earned your high regard!
We love our little apartment, management has been wonderful for us, and location is great for using public transportation! I really only have one major complaint: The hotel-room style heater/AC we have is clearly not built for the amount of space it is in. With it on blast, the apartment hovers around 60 degrees in most of the space, and even colder in the bedroom. We have had to buy a space heater to keep our apartment reasonably warm during this cold winter, and that is adding a good $80 on to our power bill. It’s worth it to stay warm, but it’s money not everyone has to spare, and we’ve had to make sacrifices to afford it ourselves! It’s been frustrating.

Dory, we are grateful to hear that your experience has been a delight, especially due to our leadership team and excellent location. We care that your home is comfortable regardless of the outdoor weather. Thank you for sharing your perspective of our air conditioning systems. We will be grateful to meet with you directly to further discuss your experience with you and also hear any recommendations you may wish to share with us. Please give us a call or visit the office when you are able. We hope to continue this conversation with you soon!
Living here has had its bumps in the road, but the staff tends to be very responsive and the rent is cheap (for Portland). It just seems like every month there's something being fixed, whether it's the garage door, fire alarm system (two false alarms btw, both in the middle of the night and I have a cat), the water heater, my AC/heater. Maybe just bad luck in the 9 months I've been here? I'd say my favorite thing about this place is that it's close to public transit and the Moda Center.

Always been great! Super respectful, on top of things. It’s constantly being cleaned. No complaints ever and when there are some they are quick to fix them

Mackenzie, your sincere appreciation has brightened our day. Thank you for cheering on our top-notch maintenance team and for letting us know that you enjoy our clean neighborhood. We give you five stars too!
Love this place, office staff are always friendly and ready to help, we never had any problems with noise or neighbors My only concern is the garage door which has been broken several times, I don't want to pay $200 for parking every month to stand in the rain and unlock a temporary gate, but I'm glad that this problem is solved and I hope it won't happen again

pretty solid, thin walls but great staff. Amenities are nice and well-kept, neighbors are friendly and respectful of privacy. No package theft to date either!

It is truly remarkable the quality of community members we have here, and it is awesome to read your testament to that. We are glad to hear that you enjoy our amenities and team. Thank you for showing your support of our fabulous neighborhood!
I’ve been a resident here since 2022 and it’s always felt like a home. Considering it’s apartment life, you do feel a sense of privacy and security. The overall environment of the building is very welcoming.

How wonderful to know that you feel right at home here! We care that you enjoy peace of mind and that you feel welcome by all members of our community. Thank you for choosing us and for sharing about your enjoyable living experience.
Great atmosphere. Nice staff. Building is secure and updated. Constant fire alarms. At least twice a month. They said they’re looking into it, so I hope it’ll be a thing of the past. Automatic payment system is a joke and constantly has weird loopholes or extra fine print, so you get fined the $75 late fee often.
Cozy apartments, great location, and great amenities, I find myself right at home here. Management has been very nice and helpful since I started the process of applying and moving here!
I love my apartment and I love the location. I don’t like the fire alarm ringing off every 2 months twice a month at 2am in the morning. I have only lived here for 2 months.
These are the perfect apartments for single, couple or family in Portland. The entire staff are always friendly, quickly respond, very helpful to our needs and greet you with a smile. I love to recommend it to anyone who are looking for a new home.
Nice people working at the leasing office and they are available to help when you have an issues. The maintenance team is amazing, they do their best to clean the building clean.
Just moved in and the community is great, everyone is very kind and welcoming. Close to the Oregon convention center and food places. Apartment is nice and clean with big windows.
Great place to be able to unwind after a long day. The staff is great and it’s close to downtown. It’s also located close to the train and the moda center.
Good and happy staff fairly clean building although it would be nice if residents cleaned up their own messes we need to do something with the delivery companies I think if the management would help with the issue we would have more behind us
I love living here! It’s quiet, clean, friendly, and bright! I would highly recommend the Union to anyone looking to move into a gorgeous apartment right in the city!
This is a great starter apartment for me and my boyfriend! It’s both our first and all the staff here at the union are kind and understanding! From what I hear a lot of apartments management and staff aren’t always the nicest and we’re blessed to have been welcomed especially being first time renters. It’s beautiful with all new appliances! Not the biggest but not the smallest. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive! I could only dream of living in the 2 bedroom cause they’re gorgeous but out of my price range. Really God or whoever intended us to be here and it’s been nothing but a positive experience??
So far after move it’s been great! Before move in it was not the greatest due to I’ll experience but since move in it’s been absolutely wonderful!
Clean, friendly staff. Good communication. I like the club room. A nice place to have parties. The patio is very good to hang out in summer. They put there barbecue grill and ping pong table....
I absolutely love living at The Union...I love my apartment...my neighbors are friendly, I have a beautiful view and I always feel safe here. All of the staff members always go above and beyond... thank you ??
A little LOUD if you get me. Moved her in December. Something away broken I swear. I got my packages stolen twice in the last 6 months. One had $400 worth of clothes inside.
I e had a great experience the amenities are awesome the staff are very helpful and Great customer service , I Have No Complaints or anything Bad to Say I Will Definitely Refer To All Of My Friends
We have just moved in and loving it!! The apartment is so beautiful and the staff in the office are so kind and helpful. We are very happy. We have so much light from all the windows.
I will be moving and I’ve been there for four years and I want to thank you and I appreciate all the services. Thank you. I will miss the Union and the staff.
The building is great. The actual layout of my unit is really nice. The people are friendly when they want to be and it’s sometimes a little loud when the person upstairs walks or stomps around
I love that the Union is conveniently located next to the Moda Center and Convention Center. The building is kept relatively clean and it's normally quiet. The pet wash is convenient also. Fob requirement for entry or elevator to floors or main doors add an extra sense of security.
Living at the Union had its perks, but unfortunately there were many downsides to living there as well. Got charged over $400 for cannabis smoke damage to the walls of my previous unit, although my roommate and I never even smoked. The unit was left flawless. It was presumed by management that my roommate and myself were the ones that caused the damage, or it was caused by guests of our unit, again, who do not even smoke. After trying to reason and explain to management that we were unwilling to pay for damages that were not done by us, we were basically told that was too bad and we still had to pay for it. The entire building smells like cannabis, even in the elevators. Homeless people were always seen sleeping outside on the steps and many times the garage door was stuck open or inoperable due to whatever mechanical failure they were having that week.
The management company has systematically removed all of the green spaces out in front of the building in which dogs were previously allowed to relieve themselves due to people not picking up poop. I am told the landscaper got tired of cleaning up after tenants dogs so they removed the options for out front for all tenants. The location while great for a central location, is plagued by the transient population, and a behavioral health hospital is across the street and regularly has a police presence to diffuse situations. We have also found people sleeping in the lobby and the security firm cannot force them to leave. They can call the cops, but the cops have declined to help in most situations. The security firm they hired barely does anything except walk around. They walked right past someone having a melt down on Multnomah who was pulling plants out of the apartments planters but the officer walked right on by without stopping. You will be propositioned and asked questions constantly if you’re out on the street. We carry mace every time we leave just to feel safer. After sleeping on it a few days I have a couple of things to add. First, to help any potential renters understand how unsafe the area is. - there was a armed carjacking that happened today at the Hyatt(whom we share a drive with). Also to address the dismissive attitudes in the front office. When ever I approach the office with an issue I am having or suggestions I am met with nothing but them looking annoyed, acting like I am being a bother. Their tone of their voice also confirms that. When asked to have a door fixed that wasn’t working properly, (a sign posted to the outside of the building, asking people to ensure it closed- not super safe) we were told that it was not broken but tended to not close as fast and catch in the wind when it got cold. While true, this door would also bounce back off the frame, one had to physically hold the door closed until the lock reinstated. Instead of having someone look at it, the office decided to wage an email war of semantics on what constitutes a “broken” door. After changing my semantics to appease the office the door was looked at the next day and the sign removed as the door was “working as its intended design” once again. The office is great when first moving in, but once you have an issue with something or bring them a problem it seems you get on their bad side and they turn to gas lighting and being as obtuse as possible.
I’ve rented at the Union since March. The location, while central, is honestly pretty… dangerous. The Denny’s a block away has two armed security guards on duty at all times. To put it in perspective, when I tell people I live in the the Lloyd district, I usually get a nice long cringe-related react. Now let’s talk about the “pet friendly” aspect. Yes, they allow pets, however, walking your pet in this area past dark is an experience you probably wouldn't want to repeat— even though you will probably have to do this every single day you live here. I’ve asked for a small dog relief spot in the largely unused patio on the 2nd floor terrace, and instead of any movement there, they banned pets from the front two green spaces. So the only options are to either walk my dog to the spot beside Multnomah (pretty dangerous) or MLK (very dangerous). Other apartment complexes offer pet relief areas on the open terraces, so if your safety and pet are important, maybe do some more research. The apartments are decent quality, though. The elevators are cheap and break down on a fairly often basis.
