Nestled just southwest of the heart of Center City, Southwest Center City is a revitalized neighborhood strewn alongside the Schuylkill River. The neighborhood’s many alluring rentals include stylish lofts, modern apartments, and charming townhomes. Southwest Center City boasts excellent walkability, partly due to its layout and partly due to its ideal location.
The University of Pennsylvania, both a premier Ivy League institution and the area’s number one employer, lies just across the Schuylkill River from the neighborhood and is accessible within a 10-minute walk. Southwest Center City also sits within walking distance of SEPTA’s Ellsworth-Federal Station, which is served by the Broad Street Line. Major city attractions are just steps away as well, including Rittenhouse Square, the Kimmel Center, and Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens.

Property Ratings at Universal Court 1
disgusting, mice everywhere. Don't waste your time.
I have been on the waiting list for about three years and now new Management comes in and wasted my time. I have to fill out a new applicant.

We are sorry to hear about the length you have been on the waiting list for The Universal Properties. The demand to live at this location is very high which can result in potential applicants waiting a long time. We have many other properties around Philadelphia that may fit your needs that do not have a waiting list. Again, we are sorry for the frustration.
Nice unit but rent here only if you're ok with constant gunfire on the corner of your apt, loud music from neighbors and drug front corner stores and constant police presence from all the crime. You're unit will be mixed in a neighborhood with public housing residents so there will most likely be much drug activity and crime where you'll live. U.P also has horrible mgmt. I've dealt with 5 different managers since living here and was forced to vacate due to a notice I never received.

We at Pennrose are sorry you have had a negative experience. At Pennrose, we strive to offer the most professional and friendly customer service possible, and seems we have failed you. We apologize for any situation that you feel was not handled with the utmost professionalism. Our management team at The Universal Properties has been made aware of this situation and again apologize.
I called numerous times and been place on hold for over 10 minutes. I was told that management had called me but my number was not in service. They have my address so why they did mail me notice of a available apartment. My experience so far has be horrible.
I called on three different occasions to see if I would have a different experience and they were all the same. I was told that they are only open to come in for an application from 9am-12pm even though here (apartments.com) the times are listed and say open until 5pm. Now since I am a hardworking adult I have to work full-time to support myself I can't just take off work. Also, the open houses occur during the day as well, when I asked if I could schedule an appointment for a different time or possibly a weekend I was "shot down" in a very rude manner. Twice I gave my information so the person who gave the appointments could call back; She or whoever it was never called. I attend graduate school and work so all I am trying to do is view the apartment. I never thought a property would act so unprofessional to possible residents. All in all management needs to control the situation or they will continue to receive bad reviews.

I think this company is about playing games. I called to find out if they had more than one two bedroom Available i was told yes to come to the open house and Bring and $100 money order and $30 background check fee I came to the open house when I was done looking I was told that the 2 bedroom i looked at was the only one available so I stated why would I give you my $100 if it's only one available when it's first come first said she then gave me a paper to say to come back on Tuesday for a interview IF the apartments is still available WHY would I waste my time to come and SEE if it's an apt Still available universal is wasting my time and money when I could be at work making money instead of coming to SEE IF a unit is available after I was told it was more than one 2 bedroom available there a joke and I wouldn't recommend anyone to live here or deal with them

I called and spoke to the property manager this morning and while she wasn't "overly pleasant", she made it clear that they are not willing to consider alternatives to their no-pet policy (I asked about paying a $500 non-refundable fee to have a small cat in the apartment). Such a shame too because this place seemed to be a great price for the location! Oh well, on to the next one.

Hello, I am very sorry that the property does not allow pets. There are many other Pennrose properties that do allow cats. Thank you for your interest in our property.
I called inquiring about a listing I saw and the woman I spoke to was unnecessarily snippy with me and not helpful at all

I liked the area. When i visited there wasn't much noise. The apartments rates are a good price for those that aren't looking to spend their last each month.
The response time was great. the manager respond back with the rent prices and also email me the aplication which was great. Thanks Great Job
