Property Ratings at University Digs Apartments
I lived in this apartment complex since 2009 and I have had a great experience. If/when issues arose, I was able to reach the management and maintenance team to resolve it. The management changed hands a few times, yet my experience has always been very good.
These apartments trash n the reviews of the people saying they are good and fantastic are bots, there’s dog poop everywhere in the grass and maintenance walks in your room after two knocks swear they have only seen me in my underwear put wood under our ac to “fix it” from leaking, and we didn’t get the choice of apartment we wanted, and to top it off I lived here for 2 years and the pool has never been open
My girlfriend currently lives at these apartments and overall I’m impressed. The staff seems to be quite kind and has helped with any problems she’s had. It’s close to campus which is a big plus for those limited by transportation and not far from a Neighborhood Market, various downtown restaurants, and the mall. A similarly sized apartment or home somewhere else in town would likely add another 100-200 dollars to your monthly budget plus you’d be sharing space with roommates. The value is tough to beat especially if you're looking for your own space. Would recommend.
I’ve lived at University Commons since August of 2016, and at the risk of sounding overzealous, this last year has been the happiest and most comfortable I’ve had since moving to Pittsburg to attend school at PSU. When I first moved to Pitt in the fall after I graduated from high school, I found myself in some pretty unfavorable situations with inconsiderate and messy roommates. To top if off, I was biking more than two miles to and from campus a couple of times each day so that I could go to class and then attend social events in the evening. After about a year of this I was pretty fed up, so I decided to start looking for a new place to live before the next semester began. After doing a lot of searching online and visiting several other apartment complexes around town, I settled on University Commons because it fit my price range and because it was as close as I could get to living on campus without having to shack up with a hundred other people in an on-campus residence hall. Now, more than a year later, I’m convinced I made the right decision. When proximity to campus is a matter of importance (e.g. for cyclists and international exchange students), look no further. I can leave my apartment on foot less than ten minutes before class begins and arrive on time. Still, if you need a ride around town, Pitt’s public transport route stops in front of Building D about once every hour between 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on weekdays. All of this is to say nothing of the friendly staff in the leasing office who have always seen to it that my maintenance requests are addressed in a very timely manner. Other than the occasional opening or closing of a door or a few footsteps overhead every once in a while, my neighbors don’t make a lot of noise. I spend a lot of time at home doing homework, reading, and studying for my exams comfortably and free of distractions. Overall, I’d recommend University Commons to anyone looking for a cozy and conveniently-located place to live in Pitt.
I really enjoy living here. Any concerns I have are answered and taken care of right away. The entire staff is beyond friendly, caring, and helpful. I have yet to have any major complaints. The price is very affordable. I love not having a roommate and still being able to afford rent. The carpet could use replacing throughout. However, this is a very nice place to live for the price you pay.
Great apartments to live in. Management is top notch and the maintaince staff is first class. Parking and appartment property are very well lit. Great neighborhood as well.
Will never live here again. Suzy is extremely rude and doesn’t want to work with you on any problems. We ended up getting bed bugs while living here and she tried to blame them on us and make us pay to get the apartment treated. Later found out the whole building has been infested for awhile even before we moved in. Also, our air conditioner doesn’t run right and their solution was to “kick it” when it stopped working. Would never recommend this place to anyone.
Worst apartment to ever rent from. We didn't get which floor plan we asked for in the beginning. To top it off, our fridge didn't work, and there was a whole in the floor with bugs crawling out of it. When we went to talk to the landlord, all she said she would do is take 5 dollars off our rent. Very rude and hard to work with staff. Would never rent to again and would never suggest to anyone.
Hi I've lived in this apartment complex since 2009. I took it sight unseen as I was moving from TX. The staff were very helpful in the renting process; faxing materials, pictures, contract, answering questions etc. When I finally got here, I loved it immediately. I am now 55 and have been here 7 years this summer. I've rented all my adult life and I've never had a better experience. The staff are so helpful and accommodating. The maintenance is great, it's hard for me to ask for something since I don't get bothered easily, but once I finally do, it's taken care of immediately no matter how small or inconsequential it seems to me. I've always felt safe here. Twice I left my door unlocked and one day I left it ajar....and I got home after 12 hours and all was well inside. It's even gotten better year after year, there are now cameras, and bright lights for nighttime trips to the dumpster etc. The laundry rooms are very convenient and maintained. The hallways are neat and looked after. Notices are given with ample time that might be needed for miscellaneous stuff. I feel great here especially about bugs, I hate bugs, they freak me out. Sometimes I prefer to sleep on the floor for a hard surface. Since I hate bugs, I've never done that before this apartment. It's safe to sleep on the floor, that says a lot. The grounds have always been cared for in a lovely way. There was no pool when I first moved in and now that there is, there is more of a sense of community. I am completely comfortable here. It is financially the lowest cost I could pay anywhere to find a sense of home which for me is absolutely priceless.
