As one of the major economic centers of Alabama and one of the signature cities of the Southeast, Birmingham has done an impressive job of adapting to the new demands of the 21st century. The city that once built a reputation as the “Pittsburgh of the South” thanks to a robust steel manufacturing industry is now a hip community attracting entrepreneurs, artists, and innovative personalities. Birmingham remains one of the most active business hubs in the region, with headquarters for everything from banks to biotech firms operating in the city.
The dining, nightlife, and entertainment scenes have all grown rapidly in recent years, and just about everyone in town has an opinion about where to find the best brewery. Gorgeously preserved historic buildings and a pervasive attitude of down-home hospitality have kept Birmingham’s famous southern charm intact as well, creating a unique environment where the best elements of the traditional and the modern complement each other.

Property Ratings at The Ellys
DO NOT LIVE HERE. Management and Staff are extremely unprofessional. There is no way to get in touch with management as the phone number is connected to some other office. Rent is seriously overpriced and there are random overcharges. I got overcharged $120 for my view of the dumpster. Not to mention, all the halls are very dirty, the elevators are dirty, and there is trash everywhere. If it wasn't for its proximity to UAB, i would have never lived here.
Would not recommend living here whatsoever!!! They charge you crazy water bill amounts no matter how much water you try to save or don’t even use. They’re close to $100 a month and they’ll sometimes put two or three water bills all at once. Their stairwells and hallway carpets are extremely filthy!! They don’t even care to keep up with them and allow dog poop, alcoholic beverages, and trash to remain there for days sometimes weeks. Their WiFi has been out for over a week and they have not even reached out about it or answered any concerns. More than half the residents are college students and NEED an internet connection this is crazy. Building security is a joke I can’t even begin to explain.
used condoms in the stairwell, on the sidewalk in front of the entrance & the parking lot, vomit in stairwell, dog urine in the elevators and huge doggie doo piles all over the front lawn (along with trash like used diapers and fast food), stolen mail packages, a permanently closed gym, almost $100 for monthly water bill... trash piles up in closets for WEEKS on every floor because they have to pay someone to collect it... then management will increase your rent by $400 at the end of your lease.
My beginning experience was very good until my lease was up. I was given a large balance in august of 2021 I thought it was a mistake and look over my bill and saw the guide I was emailed a month before moving out. My lease said something totally different guide the property since out but I went with the guide sent it was months up to date. I was then told by staff that the guide means absolutely nothing since it was not signed and basically a bunch of lies. So I am stuck with a large balance now
