As one of the major economic centers of Alabama and one of the signature cities of the Southeast, Birmingham has done an impressive job of adapting to the new demands of the 21st century. The city that once built a reputation as the “Pittsburgh of the South” thanks to a robust steel manufacturing industry is now a hip community attracting entrepreneurs, artists, and innovative personalities. Birmingham remains one of the most active business hubs in the region, with headquarters for everything from banks to biotech firms operating in the city.
The dining, nightlife, and entertainment scenes have all grown rapidly in recent years, and just about everyone in town has an opinion about where to find the best brewery. Gorgeously preserved historic buildings and a pervasive attitude of down-home hospitality have kept Birmingham’s famous southern charm intact as well, creating a unique environment where the best elements of the traditional and the modern complement each other.

Property Ratings at Alight Birmingham
alight is the cheapest, dirtiest, and most awful place to live. management doesn’t care who does what even if it’s a violation to your lease or the apartment rules. there’s supposed to be no smoking but you will smell weed in every hall you go down, the trash is always overflowing because they refuse to solve the issue of the one very small dumpster that is emptied once a week for the whole complex then tries to fine people for leaving their trash wherever, fire alarms are faulty and constantly going off but they blame residents pulling the alarms, gates to access the building are always broken because residents keep breaking them and they won’t find a solution (the gates haven’t been working for months), the garage gate was broken for a month and 10+ cars got broken into because they wouldn’t fix it then offered no sort of compensation to the victims and lied about the severity in the email to the residents, allows parties of 100+ people to be thrown multiple days out of the week with loud music and the only way for it to get broken up is for the cops to be called and there’s not repercussions for the people in the building who throw them, the security cameras don’t work so if they ever tell you they do they’re lying, there are roaches everywhere and they do nothing to try and solve or atleast minimize this issue, there have been homeless people trying to break down my door at night because this place is quite literally open to the public, homeless people have been caught sleeping in the gym and other common areas, they will also try to fine/charge you for normal wear and tear done to their CHEAP couches and act like you’ve never told them what was happening, they’ll do room inspections and lock your individual room doors even if they weren’t locked to begin with and will then charge you for a replacement key or for them to come open it because “you’re always supposed to have it”, maintenance literally doesn’t do anything besides randomly paint walls and try to look busy it took them weeks to replace the washing machine (as i am typing this now the fire alarm has went off 3 times in the past hour). overall living here is the worst decision you could ever make.
The rooms are not big enough. The fire alarm goes off at least every month and it is very loud and disturbing. It goes off in the middle of the night atvsleeping hours. They only tell you what they want you to know about the apartment not what you need to know. They didn’t inform me about my rent not staying the same but going up
This apartment complex is entirely too dangerous for young students. There is rampant drug use and zero supervision. The management team isn't qualified and are never available when needed.
The roommate assigned has caused issues and the UH office will not reassign us for the same price. They do not follow the housing agreement #4 of moving a tenant to another apartment for the same price. Instead, we have to pay $500 more.
Overall, the apartment complex is very basic, even though the outside is deceivingly nice, inside its a college dorm. However, the management hasn't hired enough trash removal people which results in mounds of trash bags in the hallways every week. Then they threaten to fine you if you don't properly dispose of your trash, even when there is no space left.
This community has so much potential. With some serious improvements, this could be an amazing place to live. Corporate does not want to put money into the fixing this place. Areas that we can improve in are: attitudes of management, quality of the Clubhouse/pool furniture, quality of the computer labs, and quality of the furniture that comes in the apartment. Another important thing is the attitudes of the maintenance. Most importantly, once people move out, this community does everything in their power to charge residents for unnecessary "damages". They will charge you a $50 cleaning fee for a piece of lent. Ridiculous. Avoid this place.
This complex is a nice and convenient for students of UAB (four blocks away) but between the robberies and the accident prone parking deck it's not worth it. Yeah you'll have great location but is the risk of being held at gun point and not having the men caught worth it? The complex tried to make up for it by dropping rent for new tenants, but that didn't bring them in either. Maintenance won't show up until you call 3 plus times for them to fix something. And the leasing office will come in without asking just a heads up.
This place is nice, its really pricey and very close to the bad part of town! But crime does not have an address! It was perfect for what I needed! A non dorm but felt safer with the locked gates and walking distance from UAB!
