Downtown Huntsville encompasses the triangle formed by Interstate 45, State Route 19, and U.S. Highway 190 in the center of Huntsville. It’s here that you’ll find the bulk of the city’s culinary and retail offerings, as well as a diverse mix of rentals including charming and low-lying apartment complexes and single-family homes. Downtown Huntsville is also where you’ll find the Sam Houston Memorial Museum, located on the site of the Houston’s 15-acre homestead and home to several historic buildings. Highway 190 houses a number of taquerias, boutiques, and more. Seeing as Huntsville and the downtown area itself border the Sam Houston National Forest, this is a perfect spot for outdoor lovers looking for a rental near the convenience of the city.

Property Ratings at University Place Apartments
I loved the services that was offered to me the lady at the front desk was very helpful.
Numerous issues including but not limited to AC/Heating issues, 90% of the washers/dryers not working in the laundry room, constant drug dealing and shady characters around. Also as of yesterday the power has been off for OVER 24 HOURS. Had to rent a hotel due to it being almost 90 in my apartment that of course they won’t reimburse.
Terrible. Numerous AC/Heating issues and the hot water is turned off literally 2-3 times a week. Can’t wait to move out! Also, the laundry room only has 2-3 washers and dryers functioning at any given time. The rest are always broken.
I wish I could break my lease but I can’t I hate it here everything in my apartment is falling apart and I haven’t even been here for 6 months I am in college and if I could tell anyone please don’t there are other places to pick Costs are too much for stuff they don’t do. I have to make my own service calls bc every time I tell the office no one comes to fixed what needs to be fixed
1st moved in, it was infested with bugs and smelt like an old diner that let people smoke in it . The crew that fixes things for new move ins did the bare minimum. Parking lot has huge pot holes. Thermostat is right next to a vent so it only cools right next to the house oh and there’s a 15$ fee to pay on line and they don’t take cash in person. the staff isn’t friendly. Water comes out brown for the 1st 10 seconds of use .
Worst apartment ever!!! Please do yourself a huge favor and run far from this place. The lack of communication from staff/management and hidden fees are ridiculous. Have fun trying to resolve any issue because the manager is always conveniently out of the office. I had been paying rent for 8 months after I moved due to covid. Everything was fine, I went back to clean everything and the apartment was spotless. When I got my deposit back I had all these completely absurd charges. Over 100 dollar pet charges for things like extermination and pet odor..when my cat had not been living there for over 8 months and there was zero scent. Such a scam place that takes your money any chance they get. Good luck trying to get it back because their communication is not there and the front desk girls change about every 3-4 months (red flag). I should have listened to the bad reviews but I thought I pay my rent on time and don’t cause problems..I won’t have any issues. Boy was I wrong! They tell you one thing and then a week later say something different. Living wise was fine for the most part but everything else was a nightmare. I would also be extremely weary of these ‘good’ reviews left for this place..I noticed the manager who charged me over $300 of absolute scam charges left her own five star review for this place lol. Find somewhere other than this absolutely horrible place to live.
"Never Judge a book by its cover. People have left one-sided and only biased reviews. I do commend people who have left realistic reviews. You get what you pay for, and as this is a complex, as it may appear to be older and not as fancy as some, this is a college town in Huntsville. I do love the staff here, especially the maintenance crew. These workers are truly invested in helping and personally are very good people. This place feels like home to me :)
On our move in August carpet was not cleaned for both rooms, after moving requested them many time for cleaning no one get back also for package delivery even if there is medicine n urgent they don’t unlock n help u out of the way very rude staff n emphasizing only on there office timings... if u can not help in urgency then stop signing for all the packages... very disappointed
I wanted to write a review since I saw all of the negative on here. I recently moved into one of the renovated 1 bedroom apartments here. I absolutely love my new apartment. The office staff were great and very accommodating in helping me get moved in. My air conditioner went out shortly after I moved in and maintenance was there to fix it within an hour of calling the office. It has worked since with no problems. I would defiantly recommend UPA to any of my friends looking for a place.
i have had nothing but a great experience here at university place apartments! customer service has improved tremendously over the year that i have lived here!
No good customer service. Office staff very rude! 1 year here & I must find somewhere else to live. They do not care about residents needs, only their rent. I have never been late paying my rent. They have even over charge me, then credited me back months later. That means nothing. I have lived here 11 months now, my stove still not fix ...i just gave up. They are just a terrible set of people in that office. Live somewhere else!!!
The maintenance is horrible!! Customer service is horrible, the apartments are horrible, the manager is horrible, the main office is horrible, over all experiance is the worst I've ever had. Nicole is a horrible "manager", Candy only does her job when you call headquarters, your apartment could be burning down..... Literally and she'd be worried about God knows who but not the apartments nor the people. They put us in a vacant unit... With no heater in the winter and didn't care about ALL of our food going bad. Do not live here, PLEASE I rather you stay with me for a couple of day... For free goodness than to live here.!
You better take picture of the apartment before and after you leave to apartment or they will try to charge you for things that you did not cause. They tried to charge me for not cleaning a/c vents lol I'm not maintenance. Nicole is a horrible manager me and her definitely did not see eye to eye on move out because she is a liar and manipulator and she never be allowed to mange anything!!!!
We cleaned and repainted the apartment for a day, about a week before the lease was to end. I asked my daughter and her roommate/ best friend to call the office and ask for a walk thru to see if by chance there was something we missed so we could correct it to ensure we could get the deposite back, leave the apartment as we found it, which that's another story. I was so mad at my daughter because she said she couldn't find the pics of how the apartment looked when we moved in. nicole said she couldn't walk the apartment until we turned in the keys. Didn't think anything about it, inspected the walls one last time to see if we missed any spots, vacuumed all of the rooms, closets, and hallway, borrowed a broom from the neighbor to do one last sweep and she even commented on how the apartment looked in better shape than when we leased it. Called the front office to have them do a "final" walk thru. It took her less than 10 mins. And she charged us $267,that's not a typo. $40 for the stove that if she would have come into the apartment when we requested a couple of hours earlier, we could've bought a can of oven cleaner to correct that. $60 for "water"stains in the toilets, which there is a water problem, if you leave the water off for any period of time, you have to let it run because it comes out discolored. She charged us for a light bulb! The kids were complaining the whole lease about a rodent problem. My girls had some droppings in their apartment and they threw away a loaf of bread that had been eaten upon. If I could give them less than 1 star I would! So I went in the office to talk to Ms. Nicole K. To get the grand total of what she/the apartments was charging us. When she said $267 I hit the roof! I said we asked you to do a walk thru she said "If I do that for you, I would have to do it for everyone" I said NO you wouldn't, because not everyone would request a walk thru as we did, some people don't care. I'm calling tomorrow to talk to her boss!
Like stated in the below review the gym equipment has not worked in over a year...no exaggeration. Every time the equipment is asked about the Property Manager, Candy, always make an excuse as to why the equipment is not here. It doesn't take a year to replace raggedy equipment. Furthermore, she is not a very nice lady. Every time I come into the office she is outside smoking a cigarette. I have came to the conclusion that she probably doesn't do any work. You can tell by her demeanor when you talk to her that she is fake and doesn't care one bit about your problems. She is also very very rude. Besides the Property Manager being absolutely terrible the apartment itself hasn't been that bad. I have lived in the apartment for over a year now and I have had an okay experience with it. Of course, it is an older complex so there are going to be problems every now and then. I have no complaints about the leasing staff...They are always very friendly and answer any questions that I have. If they don't know the answer they will find the correct one. The Assistant Manager, Carla is also very helpful and friendly. I always make sure if I have a problem or concern that I talk to her. The times that i did talk to the Manager she had to call Carla in there to ask her a question because she didn't even know the answer herself. I do recommend UPA, but just stay away from the Manager.
The gym equipment that's shown here, only the weights work. Nothing else turns on and so the treadmills don't move. Maintenance isn't too bad, but management is horrible with customer service. We had problems with our light bill due to poor maintenance with the AC unit. The manager didn't want to pretty much hear us out. She's a belligerent woman. The apartments have issues with pest control as they don't do it monthly. Things have to be pursued many times before action is taken on behalf of the apartment management. The parking space is great, but the drains are so deep that your car has to go around them to drive across or your car goes in them and it's so annoying going every day through these holes basically. The pavement is horrible basically. The rent is higher now than in other better apartments, so I recommend to try somewhere else. The from office has certain times but they treat the office like a home job since they close whenever they want and open at whatever time they please. Many times I would go on Saturdays when it was open until 2 supposedly. Well that day they didn't open at all. They eventually removed the sign and just didn't put times up. There's 2 pools in the apartment complex, but only one is maintained. The second one by the town homes is always green and swampy. Overall, these apartments lack in basically everything that is needed to live somewhere. Everything they offer is the very minimum possible.
Very disappointed.... I really wish I wouldn't have signed a lease here. Yes it is one of the cheaper places to live however I would have rather came out the extra expenses and lived in a place where they actually fix things.
