The City of Huntington remains a center for arts and culture in the Mountain State. In its early days, the Ohio River provided the lifeblood to the city as steamships carrying coal and timber from the surrounding peaks used Huntington as a port. Today, it thrives as a lively city and has preserved many historic buildings by converting them into eclectic shops and restaurants. Ritter Park Historic District contains more than 70 historic homes, most exemplifying notable 20th century architecture.
Additionally, Huntington houses Marshall University which sits in the city’s center. The presence of the campus also contributes heavily to the art scene. The Red Caboose is a highly raved about art gallery in walking distance of Harris Riverfront Park. When large crowds pour into the community for a university football game, visitors and locals enjoy getting around the community by way of the Amtrak railway and Interstate 64.

Property Ratings at University Village Apartments
I lived here for almost a year from the middle of 2019. It was OK at first. The room was clean and bright, with no odor, and bugs. The neighbors are nice and quiet. The manager was super nice and response very fast. I can tell she tried to help and keep the community safe and clean. However, she left her job and a new manager take over her job in 2020, who is terrible in basically anything! First, she never replies to any email from the tenant unless you have her cell phone. Second, her attitude was like you own her lots of money. when I pay my rent in her office the only words she said were "just leave it there" without even look at me. The thing that disappoints me most is she kept my security deposit for over 3 months !! Every time when I reach her out for this she just replies a few works said she is not the one in charge or even just ignores my message. So a friendly reminder for new students: if you want to live here, BE PREPARED !!!
I lived at these apartments for about 6 months now. If there is a maintenance issue they take care of it within 24 hours. The management must be new but she takes care of everything and is Avail by phone 24 hours a day. I feel safe there because they have security lighting at night and it's convenient to me because I go to Marshall. I was glad to be very welcome here because I'm a foreign exchange student from China. I give it 5 stars.
The worst apartment complex I've ever lived in! It's not clear who is the landlord, they always change! You most likely won't get your deposit back! I got only half of it! However, I moved in to a place that was dirty, and they charged me for that! For smth, I haven't done! It's overpriced! Awful place! Neighbors are awful too! A child died in across the street house! Please, do not live in this place!
To begin, there's is an incredibly loud train the runs all day directly behind the complex and a construction site right beside it so if you like to sleep at all, this is not the place for you. The walls are paper thin and you will be able to hear everything in the apartments next to you, above you, and below you. Both my car and my apartment got broken into while I lived here, my passenger was window was completely shattered. When I spoke to the landlord about my car, I was informed that I was responsible for not leaving valuables in my car (they stole $5). Apparently they are not responsible for your protection because their security cameras do not work and therefore the police could not do anything for me. My airconditioner broke and flooded my bedroom 5 times causing it to smell like mold and mildew. This is probably because there is ton of that in the closet. I was away for soccer for two days and came home to a soaking wet carpet. I was told not to leave the AC while I was gone (I pay for electric seperately). My garbage disposal made a weird noise and had no other problems. After maintenance came and "fixed" it. My entire kitchen and cabinets were filled with nasty sludge. Maintenance eventually came back to fix it, and went into my bathroom and used my new bathroom towels to clean it all up and then left it on the floor for me to deal with. One of the maintenance men is extremely unprofessional. He showed up three days late to fix something for me unannounced and walked into my apartment while I was in the shower getting ready for graduation. I have been not allowed into the complex because there was an active shooter and had to stay at a friends house. I've also walked out of my door and had five men faced down in the pavement in handcuffs. I recently got my security deposit back and had $125 in late fees taken out(among other completely unjustfied fees). I was getting 10$ a month at least deducted and had absolutely no idea. I put my rent in there mailbox(because they are never in the office) on time every month and they used this as a way to get extra money out of me. Unsatisfied does not even begin to cover how I feel about this complex and it completely hindered my senior year at Marshall. I felt unsafe at all times and constantly had problems that were not taken care of properly. I strongly encourage students not to live here and for parents to be aware that your children will be safe or comfortable in these living conditions.
