While there is a variety of rentals in the Wausau metropolis, the early bird catches the worm. The city’s rent rates are often more affordable than those in surrounding areas, which makes it even cheaper to rent an apartment with roommates or a growing family.
Converted warehouses downtown offer unique apartments that are in walking distance of everything, such as Limericks Public House and Red Eye Brewing Company. Several large apartments have popped up near Northcentral Technical College’s campus, and you may want to live near Stewart Avenue if you’re attending classes at the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County.
Wausau has been named one of Wisconsin’s Bird Cities – and a renewed effort to add bike lanes in addition to its many walking paths has enabled residents to get in touch with nature. There are many parks, several blooming gardens, and multiple fresh markets that afford residents fresh produce weekly.

Property Ratings at Urban West
Urban West is a good rental but I'm dropping a star because of cost, property management, and cheap materials. This is stick frame build (think neighborly noise, smells) in a meh residential neighborhood and, while all utilities/internet are included, this is priced too high. My unit is so sunny and modern but then you have loud appliances, no garbage disposal, weird light switch locations, trim falling off (kitchen), trim literally disintegrating in both bathrooms, small shower in master, ridiculously high counter in kitchen (for bar stools), no grills/smoking on patios, no candles, parking garage door that works about 50% of the time (sometimes it just keeps opening/closing but other times it just stays open). I've had mostly pleasant interactions with Swiderski (property managers) but they're pretty passive aggressive for the less fun conversations so I won't be renting with them again.
Excellent property. Management is professional and responsive. No complaints whatsoever. The indoor garage is fantastic during the winter.
Do your due diligence before leasing with SC Swiderski. It's been my experience that all levels of employees are either incompetent or unprofessional.
