Consistently named among the best places to live in the nation, San Jose is a thriving city at the very heart of America’s tech industry. The highly-walkable downtown is a popular hangout for the entire community, featuring lush parks, exquisite restaurants, performance venues, and a vibrant nightlife scene. Over 30,000 students attend San Jose State University, and the position of the campus right downtown contributes to the college having a major impact on the local culture; the collegiate influence is amplified by the numerous smaller colleges throughout the city as well. The city layout is full of bike lanes, sidewalks, and trails, making the community very walkable and bike-friendly.
San Jose is an excellent city for sports fans, between the San Jose Sharks NHL team, the San Jose Giants baseball team (affiliate to the more famous San Francisco Giants), and the 49ers playing at Levis Stadium in neighboring Santa Clara.

Property Ratings at Valley West Apartments
I have been living here for 5 years. From past one year, a new neighbor moved in and life has been horrible from then. Loud thrashing sounds, hurling abuses, yelling, dumping wastes around every where, to name a few. Many homeless and dangerous people wander and no one seems to take any action from the management. Even after providing solid proofs of videos and pictures, management is negligent and least concerned. Please stay out of this dangerous place especially if you have a family-it is not safe for kids
Compromise Security & safety, Apartment is least concern about security though it is gated community but you are not at all secure, letter Box broke years before, my Storage break in 6 months I lost my stuff around 300$ I requested property manager to install cameras nothing happens yesterday my car break in it was in car port close security and office it looks they are sleeping, someone kept Knife in the car, I lost all my spects, glasses and other stuffs cost me around more than 1200$ .. they least concern about tenant security I was talking to property Manager instead of taking serious step she said nothing in her hand on top of that she was trying to tell we need to more cautious take care of our-self, so why security is there. I have so burglary, Break in, people smoke marijuana this apartment Now I don't feel secure in this apartments my storage, my car next m toe or my house I think they are waiting for big incident then they will react . will not refer anyone Valley West Apartment especially if you a have kids because of Skank, unhealthy and un save environment.
READ BEFORE CHOOSING TO MOVE HERE My vehicle was stolen from this gated community that claims to have over night security. Their security have a large gap of when they’re not on the clock which is when my vehicle was stolen. They have entrance gates around the fence that goes around the complex and guess what locks them? A chain and lock. Which was cut open when my vehicle was stolen. Where was security? Probably at home. When we told the office about it, the chick didn’t even file a report! She texted the manager and I found that out when I went to go talk to her and she couldn’t find the incident report. Wow. Way to care for your residences. They voted against a neighborhood watch. Just take this into consideration if you want to move here. Oh and the cabinet doors keep falling off. They’re just stapled and glued so that was fun when it fell on me.
We have lived here for years and it has only gotten worse. Starting from the beginng: they said they were in the process of remodeling the gym and that was one of the reasons we moved here. 4 years later they finally started to do it. Things indeed break all the time and aside from only two maintenance workers and Erica, the new manager who is GREAT, everybody else is extremely incompetent! The parking is located underneath the 1st and 2nd floor units and that happens to be where they conveniently put the sewage pipes, and not one day goes by when one of these pipes is busted, spewing sewage water all over the vehicles! If thats not bad enough they make you pay for water as well! No matter how much water we conserve (and we have tested it) the bill never goes down, but when pipes burst and other instances when a large amount has been released somehow our bill always went up! Every four units there is a designated parking spot for one of the units that is located directly in front of the stairs to go up to the apartments which not only is extremely frustrating to try and squeeze by, but it is also a severe hazard and I have no idea how this passed fire code inspections. The staff here does do a very good job at treating you like absolute garbage and provides the worst customer service I have ever encountered, and they are unbelievably disrespectful any time you need to speak to them. There also used to be a nice market here, but recently they decided to kick them out so they could remodel their leasing office. During this remodel they also tore out the locker rooms which had lockers, showers, bathroom just to make a fancy office. Many amenities have been removed since we moved in but they continue to raise the rent. The only way to enter the complex is if you have a gate card, so there is no way to enter on foot. Unless you have a car you will be trapped outside until one comes and opens the gate. We live in an upstairs unit with a skylight which we thought was great at first, but this thing leaks every year when it rains and we still have a stain on our ceiling that they said they would paint, but years later they have yet to do so. They do very, VERY sloppy repair work and never follow through with finishing the job, making it look like you moved in during remodel. I can go on and on but this review has limited me to a certain amount of words. In short, DO NOT MOVE HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE TRASH AND ENJOY LIVING IN AN UNSAFE ENVIRONMENT!
These apartments are super old and falling apart. We have to have maintenance sent out to our apartment every other week. There is always a leak or something broken. They do not respect your choice to not let workers in when you are not home. The roofs desperately need to be replaced. I called the office once because I had a leak running down into the electrical outlet and they didn't send someone out for two days. My balcony wood is rotting. I am afraid to go out there. They have slowly started replacing all the balconies however, it took them 3 months to replace my neighbors balcony when they said it would only be a two week job. There are WHITE carpets!? No matter how clean my apartment is, it always looks dirty because of their poor choice of white carpets. They urge you to not use the garbage disposal because of their poor plumbing. The amenities are okay but poorly managed. The Sauna has been broken for over two years now. The staff is horrible and unorganized. They are lazy and getting them to help you is like pulling teeth. The palm trees are never trimmed and commonly fall on people and litter all over the community. Speaking of litter, there is always trash everywhere. There is A LOT of children in the community that leave trash behind and are incredibly loud. The drive up gates are always broken, letting anyone and everyone into the complex. The washers and dryers are constantly breaking or never work correctly. There is NO guest parking.
I feel we could live in area with less screaming. Vandalism. And traffic oh and minus all the bugs! Overall at least we have a place to call home.
Although you're paying out the nose to live here (but then again, where in Silicon Valley aren't you?), these apartments are pretty swell. Lots of floor space for the money compared to other complexes around the San Jose area, pets allowed, and free access to a gym, 3 pools, a hot tub, a sauna, and a game room/clubhouse. There is even a small convenience store located within the property for all emergency items and random groceries! Another great plus were the two parking spots offered to all residents as opposed to just one. On the downside, the nearest train station for those who commute to work is downtown at Diridon and although the community is gated, it's very easy for non-residents to enter. Overall, I'm happy with my decision to live here, however the location could be better and the rent is much higher than I'd like to be paying.
