Property Ratings at Vantage Pointe
This has been the worst apartment living experience I have ever had- there are water/plumbing issues about once a month where we might be without water completely or without hot water. My closet broke twice and the second time it took maintenance 3+ weeks to fix it- so I had nowhere to put my clothes for that period of time. The elevator wait time can get veryyy long and there is always at least 3-4/8 of the total elevators that are not working at any period of time and it is seemingly like there are no goals to fix them. Lastly, we had issues with the dryer and dishwasher and it took at least a month for anyone to come inspect it and another 2-3 weeks so any maintenance to be done. Yes, it has nice amenities and gym and the apartment itself is more modern but the logistical issues listed above and the parking garage that is difficult to maneuver would make another building worth your while. When myself and multiple tenants asked for a rent reduction because of all of the problems, the staff said "there was nothing they could do about it", and that its an issue for higher up in the company- aka- still haven't heard back and this was weeks ago.
The elevators are constantly down. You'll find yourself waiting 20-30 minutes at times just to catch an elevator. Management is incompetent, untruthful, lacks communication, and have even retaliated against tenants who speak up about the issues plaguing this terrible building. In addition to the elevator problems, you will also experience frequent water shutoffs due to maintenance. Do not let yourself be fooled, this place is miserable to live in and you'll instantly regret it.

Don't fall for it. This place has gone way down hill since the new owners took over. Evevators NEVER work and the staff doesn't care.

Do not rent from these people. They will not return your deposit.
cleanliness was incredible, the staff was extremely helpful and seemed very caring and concerned with peoples needs and how to accommodate to all.
Only 1 out of the 4 elevators work, long lines waiting for the elevator, can take up to 20 min to get on the elevator… unacceptable..
For the first year of living in this apartment I only had one minor issue - water damage - but it was taken care of fairly quickly and not a large issue. Since then, the property has gotten significantly worse. As for the building itself- three of the four elevators for the forty floor building are broken, 2 of which have been broken for months. I personally have only had 2 packages stolen/lost but other neighbors of mine have lost many more. I personally have not had my car broken into (as far as I know) but many neighbors have. Rent increases are insane. All of these issues have been unaddressed while they renovate the leasing office that was in great condition? I have no words for the leasing office management team and their incompetence, some of the rudest people I have ever encountered. This place was great at one point but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone moving forward.
If you want to live in a building where only one elevator works to service 40 floors, then this is your dream place. Since moving back in August, only 2 out of 4 elevators have been operational leading to a wait time of 10 minutes when you need to leave. They were supposed to be ready “in a couple weeks” months ago and we keep getting the same message month by month. Save your money and go elsewhere .
This place has been a nightmare since I moved in. Elevators broken, poop in the doggy area, smart locks that break constantly, long elevator wait times.
Living in this building has made my anxiety skyrocket. I've literally had to increase my medication dosage twice because of the stress that Vantage Pointe has caused me. Just read the most recent reviews - ignore everything before 2022. And notice how all the recent reviews are heavily upvoted. There is a class action lawsuit pending against this place, filed by all the people who are out money due to living here. Management has stopped responding to reviews ever since the negatives ones started coming up.
Location..amenities....staff.
I have been at Vantage Pointe since it opened many years ago. I am still here for a good reason. It is a great place to live and the Vantage Pointe team is excellent.
Two elevators have been broken for weeks. For a 40 story building, this is a huge issue. Also, sometimes there are elevator buttons missing and those don't get fixed for weeks either. The building also recently installed “Latch” which takes away normal key fob / key functionality, and is a huge nuisance. They also don't allow lease takeovers, which is extremely unusual. 60 days notice must be given in order to vacate, which is different from the standard 30 days. I didn't see that and assumed it was the typical 30 day notice, and so now I'm forced into staying an extra month at a more expensive rate. I'd give this place zero stars if I could.
if you want a parking lot with no cameras or security, waiting for elevators over 10 minutes , looking for your mail/package for 30 minutes, then this is the perfect spot :) don't forget your rent increases about 7-8% every year!
very nice place to live great views from any direction . access to all major freeways within a minute. 163 94 5, plus trolley
Overall good place to live. People are very courteous.and helpful. Security is good.
Submitted my application a few days ago, no one called or emailed to acknowledge the receipt of it. Been calling million times no one is returning my call. Not a good start
Excellent service all the way through!
I've lived here for over a month and am quite happy with Vantage Pointe. Most of the older issues that popped up in previous reviews seem to have been resolved. Packages are securely kept in the package room until the front desk staff grabs them for you. The gym renovation was just completed, and it looks great with plenty of equipment. The maintenance staff has been quick to respond to the little issues we have. While there's certainly a problem with homeless people camped out in tents in the surrounding areas, the block itself doesn't have any tents on it, and it seems the VP staff are quick to respond to any homeless complaints in the area. I have occasionally seen roaches and rats on the streets outside, but I guess that comes with living downtown. I see the maintenance staff clean the outdoor areas often, and I appreciate it. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it here.
Great amenities..modern...super easy access to freeway....young demo graphic.
Great place to live. Amenities are constantly being updated. Looking forward to more additions.
Solid place to live.
Best place to live in downtown San Diego!
It's a lovely establishment but pricing and random charges really baffle me.
Really excited to move in! Closer to work and school.
Staff has been great overall, but just the age of appliances and conditions of some is less than great.
So far this community has been great.
Vantage Pointe is a great living community and all the staff are fantastic! I am the longest-standing tenant, moving in over 10 years ago when the facility first opened. There is a reason why I have been here for so long.
Hands down best customer service I have experienced in a while! Looking to rent at this time has been a challenge to say the least, however, from the moment we arrived at Vantage Pointe that changed. The leasing team start to finish was kind, great at communicating, quick at processing, and made sure we felt confident in our process to lease. Highly recommend !
The complex and units are all modern, clean, and with superb amenities. There is a ton of communal space on different floors including a few kitchens and bbqs. Additionally, the fact that the building is being regularly updated/refurbished is extremely promising and refreshing. The only major drawback is the additional fee required to have the reserved parking spot become available to you and that utilities are entirely separate from rent.
Great facilities, leasing and management Communication need improvement.
I’ve lived here for multiple years now. Every year they raise the rent, sometimes above the city rent cap because they are exempt from it until 2024 or the building is at least 15 years old. This year not only do they require a 60 day notice but are also raising my rent over 12%. They refuse to work with you, or negotiate. It’s a take it or leave it. Who wants to move every year? Who wants to have to stress about a renewal or commit 60 days out? On top of that they have continual water shut offs in the entire tower, elevator issues are the most common, taking down one of more elevators for long periods of time. They also promise an annual window cleaning, mine have been cleaned twice in 5 years. The management and leasing agents could careless about human beings and care only about Brookfield Policies and their bottom line. Steer clear if you can, their prices are similar to most newer buildings downtown and they will have better amenities and much better service. Megan in leasing and the building manager have zero customer service skills. There is no regard for loyal tenants the turnover is apparent with constant moving in and out on weekends taking down again one or two elevators.
I appreciated being able to tour the property with a real person. I was able to ask questions and get so much more information about the property than all the other digital tours I took at other properties. I also appreciate that the owner likes to keep the building relevant and has committed to updating the property. This really made a difference in my decision.
The property, including parking areas, are kept clean!
I am the longest-standing tenant at Vantage Pointe, moving here within the first month that they opened over a decade ago. This is a very comfortable place to live. I like the entire community - the VP staff and the residents.
Vantage Pointe has been an excellent place to live for the past year. Great staff, nice people, updated apartments, superb maintenance service. Many hours spent socializing around the pool and hot tub. Highly recommended.
The building is chill, the unit is beautiful, the views are amazing, the staff is great, but the dog park being right out front gives a bad first impression and smell.
Love VP!
It's high rise living in Downtown San Diego.
Great apartment!
Vantage Pointe is simply the BEST place to live in San Diego! 1281 9TH Ave, San Diego, CA 92101 is the BEST address in town!
Love living here. I feel safe and move in was very easy. Location is great. People are nice.
Location and amenities are great! Staff works hard to keep clean and classy. Great place to live..take advantage of Free ride (FRED) for some city living! Close to all.
Vantage Pointe is a giant complex that has had multiple peoples car broken into and packages stolen from the package room. Management simply says they are “sorry” and “wishes” they could help. The parking garage and package room don’t have any security cameras. There is also a new 40 story apartment complex being constructed across the street. It’s starts every morning at 7am and won’t be done until late 2023. Elevators have been down for months at a time… and the front door is right next to dog park, which smells like urine all the time
I have been a resident of Vantage Pointe since the day it opened. It is a great place to live!
Kitchen layout is inefficient with refrigerator blocking 20% of the cabinet space. Carpet and flooring is old and should be replaced. Stackable washer/dryer is old and noisy. Windows are very rarely cleaned. Pet waste and odor at front of building and in elevators.
Great views of the city and a well maintained building in a great downtown location.
Very kind staff, lovely windows in apartment, and easily accessible amenities
Something can always be done to enhance one?s experience living in a 13 year old apartment which has seen a lot of wear and tear
Best Building, Friendly and helpful staff, same day maintenance concerns. Perfect place to Call home.
