Property Ratings at Varia at Highland Village
Varia, which took this place over last year is horrible. They shut the pool area down right after they took it over and locked it for months. This is the only amenity at this place. After they opened it they shut the hot tub off. For 4 months management has said "the hot tub is in the final stages of repair" literally 4 months. It's ridiculous! They don't maintain the place and management is extremely rude.
It seems to me that this business is never open. I have noticed the changes being made to the color and name of what used to be the District of Highland Village. I thought I would stop in, as I am in the process of building a home and wanted to see if this would be an in between home for me and my wife. Well, since the office is always closed (at different hours of the day) I have changed my mind. I just drove over today, at 11:20am, it is 11:31 am and they had a closed sign up. Yesterday the sign was up at 2pm. No notice saying they are showing a unit and will be back... nothing. Very frustrating. I did drive through the complex to see if I like the grounds, and I have to say, the color choices they have decided on are not very.... nice. Why are the businesses still the old run down brick? Why are some apartments gray and blue and white? Are you still working on the town homes, because the random blue wood spot is awkward, while the brick is still red. The colors do not clash well together and just look very poorly done. Another note is, not sure why the name change. It has always been The District of Highland Village, and as a long time Highland Village resident, and business owner myself, this can be very challenging and confusing for clients. I came to view the apartments. The manager is not a nice person. She has a very unwelcoming presence about her. The assistant manager showed me a unit, and I was very underwhelmed. There was a lot of dog poop in the grass, a nasty smell going up the stairs (like marihuana). Not very many useful businesses, the area could benefit from more restaurants or stores. Overall, I have decided not to move to this complex, mainly because of how the office staff carries themselves.

old management was great, new management is awful. not friendly, takes forever to get things done with no communication. they said they were coming to inspect balconies, but never came. I stayed home all day so I could discuss with them some issues we are having ( like mushrooms growing out of the wood on the balcony due to all the rain, NASTY) and no one ever came. The pool is a nightmare. Old residents, who no longer live in the community, continue to come and take advantage of the pool. We spoke with a family full of teenagers, who said they dont even live here, that they live behind racetrack on 407, but because its so easy to enter the pool, they use it. This high pool traffic causes the water to get super dirty quick, and it hasnt been cleaned or shocked since the new owners arrived in April. The pool already isnt big enough for the complex, let alone additional people who dont even live here. Its ridiculous.

I am thoroughly enjoying my stay in The District. With the awesome retail establishments just steps from my apartment, it has made this a fun and unique place to live. The apartment itself is beautiful with high ceilings, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and a large and spacious balcony. The property is well maintained and everyone is very friendly. It is very conveniently located to access shops and restaurants. The Manager, Lezlie, has been very helpful and attentive. The Maintenance personnel are very responsive to any needs - Walter is especially talented at fixing anything and very helpful, which was really nice when I needed help hanging an item in the Kitchen. Overall, it has been an enjoyable experience living here and I highly recommend it!!

Huge water leak and a LOT of mold. Was displaced for months while it was repaired. They did put us in another unit but it took a LOT to get them to just do the right thing. They treated us horribly, was hard to get them to respond promptly and had to threaten to report them before they finally took the right action. Another time, Heater went out, they failed to respond timely, and we had to go to a hotel and then argue with them again for reimbursement. New construction at the time approx 5 years ago. So may be better now...

I love my apartment here! It’s so nice to have a coffee shop and a craft beer spot within a 5 minute walk. The community stays pretty quiet and my neighbors are nice. My apartment is completely upgraded and has a lot of nice features, overall I have had a great experience!

Ownership built a sub par product ans upper management could care less that half of the apartments flood everytimes in rains. Unorganized and overpriced. Don't be fooled!

A well appointed apartment but lived onsite only hours and became very ill. New unit tested positive for VOC's and formaldehyde. Strong fumes did not subside with continuous airing and use of VOC air cleaners. Only $300 security returned after learning diagnostics. A very unfavorable, costly and unhealthy experience.
