The Highlands/Perkins neighborhood of Baton Rouge is located just south of downtown, nestled into the curves of the Mississippi River. A relatively upscale area, Highlands/Perkins offers a range of mid-rise apartments and single-family homes that showcase the best the Bayou State has to offer. A convenient location just across Interstate 10 from Downtown Baton Rouge means residents will always be close to the action. The neighborhood is also home to Louisiana State University, and there’s a welcome youthful energy courtesy of the campus and its students. There are diverse cuisines to explore including Cajun and Creole foods near the university and just off the interstate. Breweries have sprung up near the river and there are well-maintained parks to explore both near the water and closer to Downtown Baton Rouge.

Property Ratings at Venue at Northgate
You may be thinking of signing a lease with this place but I do recommend you to stop. These people are no trustworthy. Whatever you hear from them is a lie. The complex has the best location but the WORST MANAGEMENT ever. My friend had a smoker roommate despite explicitly explaining her preference for a nonsmoker roommate. She went through a lot and only after LSU’s legal interference they changed her room. Also, we were told that in order to break the lease we only need to pay one rent, however this a lie they make you pay as long as your lease is going. Be smart find another place…
This complex has the best location and the WORST Property MANAGEMENT I've ever experienced!!! We just moved my daughter and her roommate into the most disgusting apartment. It looked like 2 college guys lived in this unit for 2 years, didn't clean ever, moved out, and this management team did not touch this unit; then allowed us to move in! It was disgusting! Every aspect of the apartment was filthy! My daughter's toilet was broken, with Water pouring out on the floor. We've reported this issue on the 1st. Day, as well as many other issues which are still pending. Checking in / move in process was great. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable however, they blamed a contractor for not cleaning / turning over the apartments, well I'm not buying it and since this seems to be our only recourse, I'm submitting this review! We had a horrible experience moving in! We had to scrub clean the entire apartment to live here. 1 week later, still waiting on punch list we submitted, and management is still blaming contractors and the amount of service tickets they have in back-log (200 was mentioned). This is not how you run a property folks!
The workers always catch an attitude with you if you have any issues with your apartment. They always seem too busy to answer resident questions and when they call you back it’s usually days later. The property is unsafe and there are roaches all over the outside of the property. There’s a gate behind the garage that has also been open the past four years i’ve lived here. The only good thing about this apartment is that it’s walking distance from LSU and that’s IT.
I've been living here for a few months now and the leasing agent downstairs (Vanessa) has done a great job helping me move in and makes sure that I'm up to date on all Venue events and changes.
For a college apartment complex it's a pretty good place. The amenities and location are perfect. Office staff is terrible. The keystones are nice, but can't really do much for you and management is rarely around. I lived here for 4 years and don't think I ever met a single person from corporate or management. I can't tell you how many times I got charged late fees even though my rent wasn't late (never had to pay them, just annoying). I received phone calls stating I had a package and would go down and they couldn't find the package then it mysteriously appeared weeks later. I didn't find maintenance to be too terrible. I remember the fire alarms randomly going off for hours in the middle of the night. That happened at least a couple times a year. The place was really noisy, neighbors and such, and maintenance would do the lawn at like 7 in the morning on a weekend. Overall there were many annoyances but nothing THAT bad. I didn't love the place but there aren't many alternatives. It is one of the nicer places. The location is probably the only thing that kept me there all 4 years.
If i would describe the Venue in one word it would be horrible. Maintenance is horrible ,and the staff are not informed at all. The complex is dirty. I have found lizards and rats in my apartment. Only good thing is location. The rent is way to high ,and not worth it at all. The staff is rude! I just really don't like this place, and I cant wait to move out!

I apologize that you have not had a positive living experience while staying at our community; we would like the opportunity to make things better for you. I am unable to reach out to you personally as the post does not give any personal information; please give the office a call today at 225.381.2990 so a member of management can address your issues.
The best thing about living here is the location. It's an easy walk to classes and there are a lot of restaurants and stores right outside. The outside of the place and the pool area is extremely nice but that's about it. The rest of the complex is dirty looking and not kept up very well. The management is hit and miss, some people are nice and the rest don't really care.
The location is fantastic, as are most the the amenities offered. Unfortunately, it is not worth putting up with a nonexistence maintenance, and an office staff that is even worse. I never thought I would have to deal with a staff that's extremely rude, and uninformed. I enjoy my apartment, but for the price I'm paying...just not worth it.
The office staff is extremely lazy and rarely have answers to any question you have. For example, if the power goes out or the wifi isn't working, don't bother calling and asking them any kind of status update on when the issue will be resolved because 9/10 times they are clueless. The maintenance staff is better than the office staff in the sense that when they finally get to your apartment to fix whatever is broken, they are good about making sure it is fixed. It can take them sometimes more than a week to finally get to you though. This can be problematic when things like your garbage disposal break and your sink clogs up. The location is awesome. You're right in the middle of everything. You have great places to eat within walking distance, and you're basically on-campus. Amenities are about the same as every other apartment complex in the area. The noise can be an issue. You'll have people mowing the grass or blowing leaves at 7 or 8 in the morning which can be really annoying if you don't have class till 10 and didn't go to bed until 2 or 3. There is also a street cleaner that comes clean the parking lot by buffalo wild wings just about every night at 3 or 4 in the morning that is extremely loud. My roommate used to have to sleep with earplugs because it would keep her up half the night. Overall, for the amount you pay for this place (anywhere from $700-$1000 a month# it is not as pleasant to live here as it should be at such a high price. The wifi will sometimes go out for over 24-48 hours at a time and the office staff gives no indication as to when it will be fixed #nor do they inform you that it is out). There have been several times where the fire alarm will go off in the middle of the night and not get shut off for 1-2 hours. You call the staff to see when they are going to be shut back off and of course they are clueless. Any time the power could potentially go out, it will. It was out for 3 days when a "hurricane" hit Louisiana in the fall of 2012, no one else in Baton Rouge lost power. The power has gone out at random times for up to 3 hours and they have no explanation as to why. This can be really frustrating, especially when you look outside and see tiger stadium lit up like a Christmas tree and its not even half a mile away. I lived at this place for 3total years, and it was the same thing all 3years. The only reason I stayed as long as I did is because I didn't want to go through the hassle of moving all of my stuff to a new place and the only other places I would have been interested in living in were too expensive. If you like the location, go for it. Just ask yourself if these are things you're going to be able to deal with. Because I can promise you, they will happen.
