Property Ratings at Veranda La Jolla
Ok living experience Lived here between 2012 and 2020, moved to LA, then came back in 2022 and lived here until 2024. It's on the cheaper side compared with other apartment complexes. Amenities are basic. Maintenance requests are usually completed within a day. Although when it came to the leak due to roof needing repair, it took months. Washers and dryers took at least 6 months to fix. So, I always did my laundry early in the morning when no one else did laundry. Parking is ok. Guest parking not very many available. Employees take up the guest parking space. The pool is big, good for swimming laps. They just brought in new equipments for the gym. There's Amazon locker, so that's convenient. Some entrance doors aren't locked. I complained about this because at least 2 homeless people slept or got access into the building and trued to camp there. The issue with the entrance door took months to be resolved. One of the entrance door is still not locked/fixed when I moved out. Overall, living here was OK.
Good timely service, he was very nice and did a great job.

I have one word for the administration at Veranda La Jolla, which is unprofessional. I started living there when it was “La Scala.” The administration was very friendly, respectful, and always eager to help. My leasing contract was supposed to start every month. The administration changed to “Veranda,” I got a call asking if I would keep renting monthly, and I had to sign a new contract. I went multiple times to ask the leasing office about this new contract, and nobody knew about it. I got another text message saying about this new contract. I went again, and I met Ms. Adriana. She gave me my new contract, which had multiple changes, including a prohibition of pets and a higher leasing price. Any leasing change needs to be notified in a written manner by law in California on a strict time basis. She had no problem telling me she had told me about these changes in person to my face. After a discussion, they offered me a one-year contract I had no other option to sign, given the timing and my professional situation. After this, they behaved aggressively, unprofessionally, and negligently instead of accepting it was their mistake.

Amazing help! Miah was super helpful and friendly. She went completely out of her way to make sure that I found the right unit and got settled quickly. I did my tour on Tuesday and was approved and moved in by Saturday.
we are happy with the apartment. The laundry room is often a hassle and inconvenient.

I lived here for 3.5 years and planned to leave a glowing review up until management changed in my last few months there. The location is great. Maintenance is amazing. The rooms are fine. But if you ever have to interact with management, and you will when moving out, you'll regret living here. The new management is incredibly spotty and slow to respond. I waited nearly 6 weeks to get concessions approved when the plumbing broke and flooded 2/3 of the apartment badly enough they had us running dehumidifiers 16 hours a day in the middle of Summer. It took them two weeks to respond to the six calls/emails about my missing security deposit check after I moved out. It took a full month and 15 largely ignored calls/emails to get my entire deposit check back because they incorrectly charged me for cleaning when I left the place so spotless the agent doing the inspection couldn't find anything left to clean. After ignoring me for so long, they only cared when I showed up with a legal letter stating I'd sue if they didn't return it to me. They called me silly for 'resorting to it'.

I recently put in a hold for an apartment with La Scala. I cancelled the hold within 72 hours as stated by the contract. They're not returning my hold because they said 4 days had passed including the day when I placed the hold. The contract clearly states 72 hours, not 3 days. I signed at the end of day 1 and cancelled in the morning of day 4 (only 61 hours had passed). If this is any indication of their ethics and leasing practices, we dodge a bullet by living elsewhere.
I love the fact that the front office has a coffee machine free to residents. I try to go as often as I can because it tastes great.
I'm brazilian and arrived in San Diego 4 month ago. I rented this apartment online only, without visiting it before, but when me and my husband arrived here we had really good surprises! It is very well located, near Vons, Ralphs, Whole Foods, Best Buy, Marshals and many other services! There is public transportation only a few steps away. The installations in the apartment were all brand new, the common area has a beautiful garden, a pool, a gym, computers and printer, and it's all very well-maintained and clean! Well, I can only make good recommendationts about this building, you will not regret living here!
This is the perfect building if you want a quick drive to the freeway, great restaurants and outdoor space. The common areas are well maintained and staff incredibly helpful. Unlike other apartments in this area, it has a large courtyard with a pool, lounge chairs and dining tables. It’s like having a touch of country right in the middle of the city. Also this building is so cheaper than the other building in this area.
I have been living at AquaTera for about 6 months, and I really love living here. My apartment is large and has lots of amenities. The complex is awesome, specifically the pool area. The pool area has cabanas which are so nice to hang out in and the pool is a salt water pool and is heated. We have so many more amenities that makes life nice to live here.
La Scala provides a lot of space for renters, and the apartment I was in had a nice skylight and an excellent view to the outside. You can feel the breezy San Diego air when you walk into the balcony as well. It needs air conditioning, however.
La Scala is a great community complex. I have lived here for 3 years and had my apartment recently remodeled in that time. The location is prime as it is walking distance from the Trader Joes complex, movie theaters, Starbucks, and UTC. Only 5 minutes to the best beaches in San Diego - La Jolla Shores, Scripps Pier and Black Beach. Parks and hiking trails also nearby. The staff is friendly and maintenance gets right on it with any fixes that need to be made. There have been some plumbing issues here, and landscaping could be improved upon, but having free access to a gym, business station and pool make up for it. I've checked other luxury complexes in the area and you can't beat the rent for what you get, so I will be renewing my lease this winter for anther year!
The overall here is OK. A lot of recidents here are UCSD students, professional, and families with young kids. The neighbors are fairly quiet. Most room here has recently been remodel and raised the rate. The room is OK, but they didn't use good quality materials, so things still break here and there all the time. The parking is very tight.
La scala is the first apartment I choose in San Diego which locates around UTC. The environment is clean and quiet. My apartment view is excellent which makes me feel very relaxable at home. And gym has regular exercise class which gives me chance to stretch my body. What I always regard as the most important element to choose apartment is the comfortable feeling. Namely, no other troubles from apartment to our busy daily life. Hope it's helpful to others.
Fantastic location. Proximity to the I-5 freeway, bus stops and good restaurants and stores. The building itself is aging but has good floor plans and space. The rent is very affordable. The ameneties are decent. With a large pool, barbeque area and a small lounge and gym. The staff is helpful, and I have not faced any issues with them at all.
For the apartment of this size the rent is too much and it does not have the washer and dryer unit. Also doe not have the AC unit. Kitchen counter were bit old as well as the floor. Leasing office people are friendly and helping.
Spacious but no AC. No cameras around bike storage cage.
La Scala is located in the nicest part of San Diego. I've never heard a sound from my neighbors through the walls, and even people outside by the pool are courteous and aren't loud. Plenty of students of UCSD but not the party type. A couple blocks from grocery stores (Whole Foods, Ralph's, Vons, Bristol Farms) and restaurants (sushi, greek, mexican, and plenty others). A park is just down the street as well with basketball courts and a dog park. Laundry is $1 (0.75 for washer, 0.25 for dryer) and they give you a card that you put money on so you don't need to collect a bunch of quarters. The kitchen is large and open which is my favorite feature. There's also a lap pool, small gym, and a computer area where you can print for free (15 pages a day, I believe). You get a balcony that you can put a gas BBQ on, or you can use the many BBQs that are placed about the complex. Plenty of underground parking. This is the place to live.
I Love living in this complex I'm eager to to see what is in the future for me and my family and I wanna do more some day for my family. Hopefully the apartments in the future are as good as your commercials look on TV. Love that actor he's so funny and makes me feel like I'm in Jurassic park the first one.
I moved into La Scala completely blind at the end of July. When I say blind, I mean sight unseen, unit unknown, etc. I lucked out and managed to snag a corner unit. For those of you who are avid cooks or bakers like myself, a corner unit is your best friend. With corner units you get two balconies. Opening both balconies creates a great cross-breeze that eliminates all food smells in your apartment in minutes! In addition the cross-breeze really helps to keep the unit cool in the summer. Overall management has been helpful and easy to access. I would definitely recommend living here if you're a student at UCSD as there are convenient shuttles nearby. This is a great place to live in an easy and convenient location!
La Scala Apartments are comfortable, but are outdated and in need of a complete overhaul. For what you are getting, La Scala is charging way too much. And if you have a car, don't even think about attempting to park in one of their micro parking spots. There are almost no amenities and those they do have are difficult to take advantage of.
Renting a studio at La Scala was a spur of the moment decision on my part. Prior to my living here, I thought that living in a studio would mean a sad, disorganized space that lacked privacy. Heck, it could have even meant that I looked like I couldn't afford better (not that I could). However, I took the plunge and signed a lease (awesome because of the flexible choices available) for seven months without having even seen my personal unit. The day that I first opened the doors to the studio I saw a gorgeous open space, and was immediately ecstatic that I had decided to live here. The units in this complex are either remodeled, or in the process of being remodeled, with lovely kitchen and bathroom countertops and cabinets as well as new appliances. The floor plan of my studio, as well as the other units, are well-thought out; for example, there's an alcove of sorts in my studio that fits a bed perfectly along with a large living room, kitchen, and space for a dining set. With the mixture of students, young professionals, families, and more in this community, the noise level is comfortable and the courtyard fountains are analogous to having a soundscape playing morning to evening. Visitor parking is plentiful, though tight, and resident parking spots are a good size. Your car is protected from the environment by the parking garage attached to the apartment buildings. In these 7 months, I have had no issues with property management, utilized the fitness center and jacuzzi, and enjoyed the central location of the complex. I would recommend La Scala to anyone looking to rent in the UTC/La Jolla area!
